Good vid! I love being retired and traveling/living out of my camper and security is very important nowadays! Thanks for spreading good info, we are part of a huge and basically "in plain sight" bunch, most retired, who love the freedom and can live well on retirement money.
I have the center style lock. I've slept at rest areas and used duct tape on the inside to tape the tailgate and glass door together. A bad guy might be able to open it but the tape makes a very loud noise and I'm sure I would wake up.
In researching how to secure my own truck camper Shell from inside, I've watched a LOT of videos. This one was by FAR the most entertaining and clearest in it's instructions. well edited and produced as well! Cheers. Got any ideas for a center twist handle?
Thanks so much! If I had a center twist handle I would probably buy a keyless replacement handle for it and just use the key fob to lock it. Hope that helps!
Just ran across this channel as i am waiting on a camper top for the same purpose. Had a few travel trailers and even a 390 RK solitude 5th wheel. Realizing that most of our trips are long weekends. Trailer life is just to much a hassle for short stays. Really like your setup and hope i can find the build out and a how to on this channel. See this was a year ago and i have a lot to catch up on
I really like that little back window latch thing. I've been in some sketchy Walmart parking lots and something like that would have been great. It will be warm enough to travel again in a month or so, and I'll have that latch secured by then. Good video. Kent
Nice to see another video from you. Your Tramper inspired me to do a better job with the wood working, etc. on my wedge camper build-out, as well as your organizing skills are noted and much appreciated. By the way, you were right in your assessment of the Chronomite water heater. I tried it anyway but it is useless. Regulated at 0.5 gpm, which is barely a trickle, it raised water temperature a whopping 15 degrees while consuming 1600 watts of power. The reseller charges return shipping and restock fee, apparently no matter what, but better than let it collect dust on the back of a shelf. I also have to figure out how to secure the rear hatch from inside, when I need to sleep in it, with the pop-top in the down position. The latch type used makes it more of a challenge, but I appreciate your solution. Nice work and be blessed.
Thanks for stopping by! One thought I had on that chronomite was to create a way to loop the water back into the fresh water tank for a few cycles to bring the water up to a warmer temperature. If I didn’t have my lines winterized I’d be half tempted to try it. I’m sure you’ll be able to figure out a good locking solution. Took several iterations before I was happy with my current setup. I guess the challenge is part of the fun! 😄 Godspeed!
Thanks for the vids. I just purchased a Pro High top for my Tacoma, and was using a thin cable and turn buckle to secure the levers for the back hatch. Not very safe if you want to get out quick. I’m going to use your idea-the aluminum lock. I have a grinder to make the shape, but where did you purchase aluminum, Home Depot? TIA!
Thanks for this, might make my 88 a truck camper. But I've got the ability to buy a van I might do that instead if it seems unsafe. Im a young female, I love to camp, fish, hike. Unfortunately not everyone is a friendly type these days. I would also implement any measure to prevent being locked in.
I’m getting a Nissan frontier 2002 with 100k miles from my neighbor. As a newbie senior woman it this frightens me. Maybe u could start a side business fabricating these locks since there’s a need, a niche, and a gap.
I'm having trouble coming up with a solution for my leer cap that just has a single latch in the middle that pulls wires to unlock it. Every single video about creating a lock is like yours where there are 2 latches on each end
Last night my diy lock didn't work and some homeless guy opened my truck camper at 4am. Almost tased him, but I just talked to him instead. Despite him obviously being an asshole, I treated him like a real human being. Told him everything was going to be okay. Seemed like he needed that. He walked away shortly after. Hopefully your lock idea works man. Waking up to some dude looking at you is fucking scary.
Magnificent! Is there ever a want or need to open the side panels at night for ventilation?
You're videos are so awesome! I based my whole truck camper build off your design and it turned out rad. Thank you.

This was the most useful video I’ve ever seen. Really cool editing and useful camera work. Keep it up!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for making this. Now I can replicate this to secure my camper as well. You would think someone would make a locking system for these.
I would think if they checked out all the people making these types of builds on RUclips one of the manufacturers would take note. 🤷🏻♂️😊
Would you consider making and selling these for people who aren’t really builders?
I think he stumbled on a side business here

how about keeping someone from locking you inside?
Wow! Some very ingenious ideas there! Thanks for the inspiration 🤝🏼👍🏻
Sure thing! Glad you found some use from it! 😊
Super impressive content, my man! Much gratitude for sharing 🙏 Speaking for myself, you definitely engaged the creativity within!!

What would it cost to just have ya make me a couple of these and ship em to me? 😂

Home Depot definitely will have it...may be a bit pricer than if you can find a local welding/machine shop that would sell you some.
This video was soooo freakin good! Do you ever miss your RV
Thanks bro! Definitely aspects of it. Not so much the one you saw. I think I miss the Airstream more.

Awesome bro
