I have done this with my batteries before and it works, but I wouldn’t connect for more than 1-2 seconds otherwise heat builds up in the wire and it could damage the battery. Originally I contacted Dewalt, after I mistakenly, completely drained my battery and it wouldn’t charge, and their response was, buy a new battery.
I had 11 of my batteries in storage for a few years and let's just say that was an expensive mistake. Only a few were able to take a charge and those don't work too well anymore
It worked.. I used thin wires.. started to smell it after about 5 seconds. but I left it in for about 10 seconds.. it's now charging.. thank you..Dewalt 20v 4ah
It worked, I literally left it connected for three seconds. I have a feeling as soon as you see that spark you could probably put it on the charger, but it worked.
Also if you have one, use your power station. Plug your charger into the station with the battery slid in, and it will give it the jump start you need. Then, plug the charger into a regular outlet.
You’ll get a lot of inrush current doing this, could damage the cells if they are still fine but just under the minimum voltage. I would get a cheap variable voltage power supply and limit current to 100 or 200 mA and the voltage to half the battery’s nominal and slowly bring it up as it charges.
Don't know about other brands, but dewalt batteries have a fusible link inside then that can blow if they get too hot inside, has happended to me several times. You can take the top cover off and solder it back together and fix it, if this doesn't work
Only do that if you know the Voltage of each cell or at least the total Voltage of the battery pack. Each Cell should have over 3V wich leads to a total voltage of 18V. If the Voltage is below that you need to replace atleast one cell. The equipment you need to repair a bad cell costs more than buying a new one. So keep in mind that something like that only pays out after multiple repairs. I would say you need at least 4 batteries. Repair it or Sell it. Don‘t throw it away!!!
@@hammerandhome Awesome I tried it with 2 5amp 20v and it worked but I was hesitant to use my 5amp to do the 60v. Worked perfect on my 5amp ones! Will save me a few hundred dollars if it works on my 2 dead 60v!
Please dont 😮 using a car battery or something below the voltage of the battery maximum. Also make sure ur wire is big enough so it doesn’t melt while ur doing this
Buy lab power supply and limit current!! Or add large high Watt but low Ohm resistor (10-50). Otherwise current is limited by battery impedence, which is low and you damage batteries. Also, your dewalt power supply lacks low volt detection, is crap.
Hey brother I have an old Ryobi CDL1802P with 2 dead batteries it was sitting in the box too long and totally forget I had it. How do I revive if both batteries are dead please?
Hey I've got a go-kart that I eraser go-kart and I'm putting a Segway battery into it I'm not sure how exactly hook it up to make sure the battery is charging
Electricity. The working battery is fully charged, you are essentially forcing the “dead” battery to take some juice from the good battery to where it will have enough to be recognized by the charger.
I looked at this and it looks like your video is only halfway the first parts cut out because it doesn’t show you what you’re setting it on it just shows you you’re hooking it to the Dewalt battery🤔
The only thing more fun than resurrecting dead 18 to 20 volt Li-On batteries with a battery charger connected to a wall outlet, is by removing dents in your truck's sheet metal by getting really cheap inflatable beach or basket balls from a dollar-type store, or from Amazon, and placing them behind the dents you want to straighten, and then wedging the deflated balls in place with suitable pieces of 2' x 4", and then connect a small air compressor, capable of 150 psi, with a long, strong piece of tubing, and then cutting the air pump on, while hiding behind a friend's near-by truck. (Always wear ear and eye protection and a ballistic vest, or an armored suit plus eye & ear protection if the ballistic vest is not available. Safety not assured.)
@@jimmiestumit does work I literally just did it. 20v 5amp wouldn’t register at all on any of my chargers. I did this for 5 seconds and now it charges.
I would get an 18650 charger, but yes it's all the same principle. If you take a good charged battery and hook positive to positive and negative to negative it will start charging it. Just don't keep it together very long as explosion can happen when overcharged.
Those are lithium polymer so probably not. If it’s got 18650 liphfe batteries then jump it with 4 volt or from a parallel 18650 in 4 volts the batteries inside this unit are 18650 in series parallel 4.2x4
How long if it's been drained,my Grandson lost it outside. It's not excepting any charge. Im only a Machinist electrical work is another deal. Please help me learn. Thank y'all, I'll follow with my results. Hopefully it will victory ✌️

Why are you misleading other people, what you are doing is not a repair, it is a temporary solution and now brag about which cycle the battery is not charging again after the first or maximum after a long time 😂
If you watch the video you can see it’s connected to another battery. Positive to positive and negative to Negative. It’s a short from a longer video I did. Do at your own risk. Batteries are dangerous. Hope that clarifies it a bit
@@hammerandhome it's like car jumper. nice done, at first I thought the BMS is on the battery to prevent over discharge but it's look like there's no BMS in the battery pack to prevent the battery for over drain. in my case I use the battery direct (+ and -) to power tool and it over drain cause the voltage deplete to 5V and the battery won't charge. that's strange it just work by jump start using other similar battery.

Same here, a 60V on a third party lamp, probably some flow despite device off, or just too long not used….in any case, it now charges again!
What did you jump it with? Another 60v?
What are you connecting it to
Dewalt will give you a new battery within 2 years if it goes bad. No questions asked!
Yep and tbis is how house fires start
What number do I need to call?
4 years old battery is fixid
It’s 3 years
Does this work with Milwaukee batteries too?
Unbelievable I just got my 60v battery working THANKS A LOT
This won’t work most of the time usually 1 cell in the pack goes bad or is leaking

What about the battery that your boost from? Is it OK? Or does it lose power?
Like a dream. Ty very much. Brand new batteries were DOA. This fixed them!!

What gauge wire are you using or can you use any wire
Am I missing something? What are the positive and negative connecting to from the Dewalt battery?
Watch as the video quickly passes by the 2nd batterie. There is a longer version of the video on my channel. This is just a short.
What if that doesn't work? Is there anything else you can do?
Not really, You could replace a cell. But that’s tricky and dangerous. Best to just buy a new one.
Hey Brad, it's Brad lol. Worked like a charm. Thx 😊
@@bradh5612 awesome Brad! Thx for sharing
Brad
Can I replace the cells with lithium cells
Thanks man you just saved my 6ah dewalt battery and my 8ah bosch core18v battery!
Awesome 👍
What causes this to be the solution? Is it just so dead that it can’t start charging? I only have 1 60V how could I jump a 60v flex?
Yup that’s pretty much it. I used a 20v to do my flex volt.

I just tried it today and it worked but reading other post states that the battery could be still bad as a cell might have lost the recharge capacity.
Worked again. Thanks
You should see if it actually charges. Seen may after this run for 5 minute and still show charged
I thought you werent meant to interrupt the charge when it wasnt fully charged
