I had the good fortune of being raised by a Green Beret. I was born in Fort Bragg while he was going through school. He’s been gone for 5 and a half years. We were fortunate. He died quietly in a hospital room with his family. I remember him coming back from Southeast Asia. Some did not. He was and still is my hero. God watch over them while they watch over us.
As a brother in Arms who went when called. I cry for a life you gave up for those who suffer oppression. We all should look around and thank God for your gift. As a brother in arms, I cry for you appreciate knowing you.
I met and worked with an American officer GB in Somalia, never really thought about what he did. I am an ex British army Commando. Wish I could go back all those years, to say hi. Would love to get in touch again, he was a nice guy willing to learn new skills

about 18 years ago in Josha tree Ca at the Josha Tree saloon it was kareoke night and my traing unit was out in forse that night singing or at lest trying to and we find out that a Nam vet was there with his grandson who had just become a green Beret what happened next was a bunch of Marines sing the Ballad of the Green Beret to both of them.
My "little" brother wore the Green Beanie. All these years/decades later he is still a bad MF'er who doesn't say much but when he speaks you had better listen. I used to kid him that my Marine Recon BRC (Basic Recon Course) had a higher drop rate than his Special Forces selection but in reality I had and have great respect for the Green Beret. They are very good troops.
I am 56 a woman with a Rottweiler, and my only desire that I have ever had was to be a Green Beret, but my Daddy who was Navy always told me that they will not accept women, so my second desire was to marry one, yet I have not ever known any. Neither dream ever came .Waiting for a Green Beret to walk into my life is like waiting for the faithful and true rider on a white horse to come.
Rangers and Airborne dudes with deployment experience are typically the ones in selection. Attrition rates are meaningless without context. SFAS doesn’t get enough credit for how difficult it is even for seasoned soldiers. Thanks for your service
@@d-train115 Absolutely true...getting through ranger school itself has a pretty stiff drop rate and fall out rate in the field(Airborne/Jump School on the other hand was a walk in the park...I went thru Benning as a new Recon Marine). As I said in my post I had/have great respect for the SF soldiers and I only busted my brother's chops over the Recon drop rate (approx. 80% in my BRC class, with a previous 50% drop rate for the required Indoc class) because he was my "little" brother.
@@stevefowler2112 Retired TM SGT here, I bust Marine Corps chops all the time, but was damn happy to have them on our left flank in Somalia. Salute! De Oppresso Liber
@@d-train115 Totally agree but the same can be said for BRC, it was only open to infantry Marines who are maxing the PFT and qualified expert on the rife and pistol ranges with a minimum rank of E3. The difference in the drop rates was, especially back in the 70's, the pool test portion of BRC would typically result in between a third and a half of the class being dropped within the first few days. SF selection doesn't have the same demanding pool test. Beyond the pool test most of our drops were due to physical breakdowns associated with the heavy humps over extended distances in the hills and mountains. Lots of injuries.
