Very informative video, thank you! Quick question, I am working on a project where I would like to make custom chess pieces. But I would like to add a bit more weight to the final product. I had an idea to fill the mold 3/4 full, add a lead fishing sinker or something, then pour the last 1/4 over the top so that it's concealed inside. Do you think this may work?
Yes a pressure pot will reduce any air bubbles. You will want to ensure that your mold is made under pressure as well. If the mold isn't made under pressure and cause issues.
di you need to degas the silicon? or pressurize the cast? also how the did the mold stay in shape with that cut in it? i would have thought that the liquid would push that part of the mold outwards
I find it damn hard to believe that the mold going between thall the legs and belly and ground just stayed together so perfectly while casting after having to be cut/torn to get the original out.
Can you reuse the mold? What about that initial slit on the side? Is the silicone sturdy enough to not have to secure the cut when you pour in the plaster or did you repair it with tape or glue?
I love your product, but I have really been learning a lot from the Brick In The Yard channel (even though I do not buy their product), as the narration is better than reading text. Perhaps consider getting someone to voice-over your videos? Keep making great stuff!
Quick question: can we go more in depth about the dowel (vent). Does this dowel stay in the mold? It didn’t look like it required a ton of touch up or sanding where it made contact.
How are you supposed to be able to purchase these smooth on products? I followed your links and went on tour site, and it looks like you only sale to retailers.

Super cool.

Yeah I find something fishy
theres an elasticity to it returning to place. it wont always align perfectly (more noticeable with transparent casts) but this does work
Can you reuse the mold? What about that initial slit on the side? Is the silicone sturdy enough to not have to secure the cut when you pour in the plaster or did you repair it with tape or glue?
Yes, this is a mold used for multiple castings. The mold should be held together with rubber bands or similar.

Thanks for the input Scott, and thank you for watching!
Porque no se derrama por la abertura que se hizo para desmoldar la pieza?
Good Music!

The dowel is removed from the mold when the casting is removed. This forms the air channel.

What does it feel like exactly? Does it have a stone like consistency when you touch it?
Is this a one time mold?
Hi thanks for watching. No this mold can be used many times.
Another video I watched similar to this one indicated that their product was not naturally waterproof. Is this product waterproof?
The urethane material that is poured into the mold will be waterproof as it is plastic.
@@smoothon Thanks. :)
😻Thats realy nice,any more.
Thank you for watching!
@@smoothon Thats okay, you do make good products and video on how to use them.

Super 👍👍
Smooth-On
What are the products to make the mold ?
The mold is made using Sorta-Clear 12 platinum cure silicone rubber - www.smooth-on.com/products/sorta-clear-12/
Only a 10 minute cure time? That does not give much time for any settling I would think.
The low viscosity of the resin allows it to fully settle into the mold.
@@smoothon Thanks
Muy creativo
Looks like it went from "Smooth Cast" to "Rough Cast"
resin lookin like chia seed pudding
That music is so annoying. SO ANNOYING. Great product, terrible presentation.
That would not work!!! The ruber would go under between the legs and encase the sculpture !! U wouldnt be able to get it out!!! Fake!!!
At 3:05 you can see that the rubber was cut to remove the model, including the pass-through between the legs.
