When I worked near there for the Navy, we'd ride through Death Valley at all time of the year. I've gone through there in 120 and 30 degree temps. It's beautiful year round.
Great video! The moving rocks have been caught on film now. Your right when water is present it freezes in the cold night and wind blowing across the ice creates friction on the ice and pushes it along with the rocks along the lake. There is a good video on it on RUclips, I think by physics girl.
One of my favorite spots is the rest stop near the junction of Daylight Pass Road and Scotty's Castle Road. It has a view of the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes. (Why do they call them the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes? They are not flat at all. If they were flat, how could you call them dunes?) The rest stop is not popular and I typically have it to myself.
