I'm not a fan of the look personally. However, if I'm walking/hiking in a kilt of any style, be it casual, semi-traditional, traditional, or utility, I will do ankle socks with my walking/hiking shoes or kilt hose pushed down with boots. Just my preference, you do you. God bless guys. -Rob

Sandals are great for hot weather. Of courseci was a hippie kid and wore cutoffs and sandals every summer. However, never wear socks with sandals.
