John Wick’s Origin / Ruska Roma Director Scene John Wick Chapter 3-Parabellum (2019)

- I really enjoyed John Wick Chapter 3 because we got to know some of John’s backstory. I love this scene because it outlines that and it’s so symbolic. Enjoy!
John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum Synopsis: After gunning down a member of the High Table -- the shadowy international assassin's guild -- legendary hit man John Wick finds himself stripped of the organization's protective services. Now stuck with a $14 million bounty on his head, Wick must fight his way through the streets of New York as he becomes the target of the world's most ruthless killers.

The anger behind “you are bound, and I am owed” is beautiful.
He's given EVERYTHING to the life, the table, everyone. It's high time he started getting something back
@@nikkimiddlekillsday5161 Agreed. That entire life has drawn him back in and tried to take everything he had. Even the solace he received from his wife before she passed.
Yes, it was over a puppy, but if you truly think about it, that puppy’s death is the only innocent blood that spilled in the entire series, and symbolized John’s need to grieve and move on. When that was taken away by that upstart kid gangster wannabe that didn’t know any better, he demanded satisfaction the world he knew would respect: that young upstart gangster’s life.
@@calhoun24 yup, he had ONE condition to all the syndicates and assassins when he left; to be left alone
@@calhoun24 Well put. That's exactly what John wanted only for the world to complicate it for him until the end.
She knew it's either she helped him or he's gonna kill them all!!

The whole montage of scenes in the Russian theater are among my primary favorites in the whole franchise. Aside from being visually spectacular, they give an ethnic/cultural/historical foundation to the John Wick character that, up till then, had only been been hinted at. Those scenes gave him a deep set of roots and a tangible past that he didn't previously have.
It’s all made up though, Russia doesn’t care about any of it and it doesn’t correspond to reality.
AND it was a BEAUTIFUL set-up for the upcoming spin-off, Ballerina. I could go on about this scene for hours with how beautiful it is and how much it impacted the franchise/John Wick as a character.
"he used to be an associate of ours..." Baba Yaga Eastern European witch.
Showing the boys wrestling was a great “show don’t tell” moment to explain why john’s so good with grappling, he’s been doing it since he was a little kid
That tone behind "You are bound, and i am owed" just screams its either she help him or they can all die right now lmao
Actually I see that scene in a different way. I think it’s more of him pleading for mercy and help because he has nowhere else to go
@@ayandas4305 it's both. He's desperate and he WANTS her to know he's desperate meaning he has nothing left to lose.. but she does. He's using his desperation as a threat at the same time
I would kill to see a prequel of John Wick in his days with the Ruska Roma or with the Tarasov Mob
Few other actors could replace the role Keanu Reeves solidified.
@@eyeseer1 besides acting quality the actor would have to somehow resemble his features. I dont think it would be easy to find such a guy.

The fact that the next John Wick spin off will be about the girl that's dancing and will be played by ana del armas and gives us her name is pretty cool

@@asmerX100 A fucking pencil!
He was probably there for the whole "John Wick erases mistakes with the wrong end of a pencil" fiasco 😂
Part 2, John Wick owed a marker to Santino
Part 3, Russka Roma owed a marker to John Wick
Technically that crucifix isn’t a marker necessarily, he was just one of the Ruska Roma and he used it as a token of sorts.
i think that the crucifix is almost like a membership token to the Ruska Roma (the back tattoo of the crucifix being a symbol of membership to the Ruska Roma) that's given to top members or graduates of the Ruska Roma and allows access to all its benefits-maybe acting like a "Get Out of Jail Free" card. however what John was asking for was of so high a price that it cost him his membership to the Ruska Roma in itself, so they not only take his token but also burn his back tattoo, symbolizing his departure from the collective.
He was raised by the Ruska Roma and is like a family member so long as he has his 'ticket' which acts exactly that; a ticket for a favor. But that ticket is also his allegiance to his 'family' so tearing it off in exchange for a favor is like being kicked out of your own house by your adoptive mother. The entire scene is dramatically sad since John basically went back home and demanded his own mother to help him but cutting ties with them because of his desperation.
@@ythandlename this is a much better interpretation and theory than mine 🫡
@@joeschianodicola1810 Not a matter of price, just that his unique situation put The Director (Angelica Houstin) in a position where she would prefer him not to accept, both because she will be punished for it, and likely because she holds some love for John as well being a surrogate son of sorts and mother of their tribe.
As @ythandlemame said, the cross is his token that represents his place in their family and that that can be apparently traded for a favor for him time in it. Severing ties with the family for some type of favor, be it within their power. The Director was in a hard position because she has the loyalty of business vs the loyalty of family. Clearly pissed off that John is coming to sever ties in exchange for a favor that will also either get her in immense shit or cause her death potentially at the hands of the high table.
I think you're correct about the marking of the tattoo though, clearly a means to destroy the permanent symbol that a tattoo can often represent.
This scene was so good, I loved that chapter 3 showed us John Wick's origin. This also tells us that there will be a new John Wick spinoff film "Ballerina". The John Wick universe is expanding.

Anjelica Huston’s the Director definitely should’ve had more scenes. Of course she’ll be back for the Ballerina spin-off with Ana de Armas.
0:48 This is foreshadowing for the scene where John Wick beats two assassins with his belt

I love this scene because of the authenticity. He doesn't say it's been a while, what the Russian opening dialouge is "How many summers, how many winters". The dialouge is authentic, unlike the rest of it, which is butchered
If you're going to use other nationalities as subvert groups at least give the authentic actors the bigger roles, because a British actress playing the part of a head of a Russian organization in a massive franchise like John Wick speaking bastardized Russian is really cringe to those who can speak the language fluently.

That's really cool, I hope they add a romantic twist to it if Rooney was in love with John but knows she can never have him. It would be interesting because we see in this scene that she struggles to dance only until after she sees John returns home and suddenly she continues to dance far longer than she did before while the music plays.
Well, the original "actress" is not an actually an actress, she's a real ballet dancer. So, they had no option but to replace her.

Though I root for John, I’ll admit it kinda pisses me off that the Ruska Roma was made to pay in blood and death for honoring his ticket, after the Ruska director warned him of the risks of helping him. I feel like John kinda didn’t care who got killed or maimed on his path to saving himself. I know he’s an assassin, but I still viewed John as an honorable man.
to be fair i cant disagree with you , i get your point
But all the situations that happened weren't his fault.
All of this makes sense but also his life was on the line for following the rules that the table made. It bothered me that the annoying ass adjudicator was mad at everyone for helping him go against the table but looked over the fact that santino used a marker to make John kill someone from the table. There should’ve been something in their rules stating you can’t use a marker against the table. Also, John probably killed so many people for the Ruska that at this point he was owed despite them being in danger.

How can you bury the ocean?
How can you escape from the light? Of course you can go to the dark, but they're in the dark too.."
Is The High Table a group of ancient gods that oversee Planet Earth? If they have enough power to oversee the Nature of Earth, then they are something else! unless its a metaphor but I'll like to think its not.
The High Table is a group of 12 crime lords who govern and oversee the criminal and assassin organization in the movie. This was explained in John Wick 2.
