I would always check with the brand of chalk marker you are using to see if it works on your painted chalkboard wall. If you worried about removing the chalk marker later, do a test in a inconspicuous spot. Leave it there for a a few days or for how long you plan an leaving your chalk design. Then test the vinegar & magic eraser. I have had really good luck and it’s removed the chalk marker for me but I would hate for you to ruin a whole wall, so please try it first.
This was a white chalk marker that I removed. I am not familiar with permanent chalk marker. But it looks like they may be the same thing and they are are only permanent on something porous like wood or paper. If that is the case, then yes this method will remove a permanent chalk marker off chalkboard.

What if its permanent chalk marker? That looks like regular chalk
