Why do words like 'train' sound like 'chrain'? And 'dry' sounds like 'jry'?? 🤔 Learn how to pronounce words that start with 'tr', 'dr' and 'str' in English. Words that start with the consonant clusters 'tr', 'dr' and 'str' can sometimes changes to 'chr', 'jr' and 'schr' to make them easier to pronounce. This process is called 'assimilation'. I teach using just one of many accents in the world. Please only learn it if you like it and if you are interested in learning it. I do not believe there is one “correct” accent or manner of pronunciation and I fully encourage EFL/ESL learners to expose themselves to as many varieties of English around the world to become accustomed to the beautiful variations of this world language. I focus mostly on teaching “Modern RP” (I may just say “RP” in my older videos, but to clarify, I do specifically mean “Modern RP”), however, you will hear a lovely little Yorkshire twang to my accent from time to time too. Please LOVE and BE PROUD of your accent. After all, it is part of your identity and makes you unique. 💚

I love you teacher 🌹. I learn phonetics fully from your RUclips channel. May God Bless you teacher
Your new video is easily digestible and practical to understand. If I'm not mistaken, in some parts of the UK, especially in Oxford and Oxfordshire, they pronounce the letter 'S' in words like 'strange' as 'ish,' which is not a phonetical nuance, but just an accent variation. Thank you so much for the insightful content.
Yeah! I've heard this too! :)

Welcome Emma 🥰
Also.../n/ + /j/ = [ɲ] ('Can you?'), in which we can hear a speech sound just like ñ in Spanish as in 'la niña'. In one word, I also heard the same speech sound: 'Grand Canyon'. This is also assimilation, I think. In Standard Indonesian, we find this speech sound very often (e.g. 'banyak', 'bertanya', etc.). We are experts in pronouncing this speech sound since we can say it in initial position as in 'nyamuk' (=mosquito), 'nyali' (=guts), etc.
We also have 'ng' in Standard Indonesian. However, this famous speech sound can be found in English, too.
Yeah!
I like your expression of pronunciation which is produced by your mouth so smoothly..Emma...
