    This is the first new solution for hydro-power I've seen in years. No moving parts (meaning nothing under the water surface that if there's algae or barnacle growth the bearings will seize up.)
    I can see using a larger one on a sail boat, or having a set of impellers. You could have different impeller sizes depending on the wind. The thing about sail boats is they have a fairly narrow speed range, so 10-11 knot winds you're going 5-6 knots, drag something in the water and lose a knot, At 12-14 knot winds you're still going 5-6 knots but dragging an impeller does nothing(except generate power.) At 18-20 knot winds, maybe you're going 7-8 knots, your sails are reefed and an even bigger impeller, generating more power, still doesn't slow you down. The way sailors do this now is with a folding prop - that doesn't spin as well as a non-folding (but minus 1-2 knot) propeller or they use a completely separate device that drops in and out of the water.
    Most hydro-generation mechanisms look like they'd soon be fouled. They're big and expensive, I always see the project announced, sometimes the device place in the water....and then.... nothing.

We have 365 days of light but we are also a country of rain so cloud is a big problem. There are a lot of streams usable for this. We build several micro hydro for places here and it is helpfull. Water powered turbine generators are attached to every single dam in the world. This tech is old, old, old and well established. The only difference with this tech is it is small, but it is identical to all the water generators attached to dams everywhere. Anyway, you can build one yourself EASY, just get a DC motor (which will easily work as a generator too) and attach some blades within a tube to it and you have your own water generator.
    Even a PC fan which has a tiny DC motor attached will do the job. Just stick the whole thing inside a tube to steer the water through the fan blades better - it is too easy.

    • @mandi8345
      @mandi8345 2 года назад +1

      @@Ian-ff2hz No, it wont. The voltage would be too low to short. Assumptions about electricity reveal you inexperience with it. Yes, water can cause shorts, but whether or not that will interfere with the current flow in any meaningful way is not as simple as 'its wet gonna die.' Besides the real problem is the circuitry that drives the fan. Its not set up to extract energy from moving air. It WILL NOT output ANY power without modifying the circuitry. Period. Luckily that modification is as easy as bypassing the circuit board all together and tapping the coils, then rectifying the output. At least you got that part right....

    there are some youtube videos where people build water powered generator themselves, but no on this nice portable & small scale.
    please don't compare it with solar/wind products, because this can run 24/7 day and night .

      He said it can charge a cell phone after it runs for 1 hour, basically it charges it's lithium. batterypack which then charges your phone 3k-5000mAh is the energy capacity of a smart phone on average these days. So that means it produces 3-5Amps total current when in a good flowing river. That's probably at 4-5 volts but could be bigger voltage @ a lower current for the same amount of power transfer, just using a charge controller with voltage regulation on the circuit board

    Even if this would be made of molded aluminium or powder metal the seals would needed to be replaced every 2-3 years to ensure water tightness.

    It looks like it has 2 18650 Li ion batteries inside, as long as they can be changed out when they begin to fade!

    If I were going camping for a couple of days, I'd find that a spare battery pack for my mobile would be cheaper and less bulky. If I were powering a small community, I'd want something bigger and more powerful. You get steady wind in more places than you get flowing water. If I were doing an energy audit, I'd be wondering how long this device would have to be running before it generated more power in total than it took to manufacture it. It has "gimmick" written all over it.

      Sadly! Most of Africa is about a 100 to 150 years behind the rest of the world. But that is how UN and the rest of the world politicians like it.

      Grenherb rubbish, places in Africa that were never colonised are no different. The governments are corrupt and the people haves no ability to work for the common good, it has nothing to do with colonialism or lack of resources.
