If you check the results on wiki, amazingly this song came in second, just TWO points behind BOM, the winners. But this somewhat loud and noisy effort isn't a patch on SAYKFM..not even in the same ball park, IMHO.
Written by Alan Merrill & Jake Hooker of the band Arrows in 1974 and recorded with them by producer Mickie Most who didn't release it. Coco performed the song in 1976 and it was credited to other songwriters by RAK publishing, which was incorrect and frankly disingenuous. The Arrows original version of the song finally surfaced on "Arrows / A's B's and Rarities" on EMI in 2004. The Merrill & Hooker writing team went on to compose the classic "I Love Rock N Roll" - they released the first version of the song (Arrows 4th single) which was issued with no promotion, proving their record company never really understood the band or their potential. Sad story of phenomenal miscommunication between band and record label.
I always assumed they were put together for Eurovision in 1978 so quite surprised to see this from two years earlier.
1976: an early Cheryl Baker sighting. 45 years on, she's still at it with three-quarters of the 1981 winners, known now as The Fizz.
Probably only a matter of time until she joins Sheeba, Steps or The Sugababes.
This is one of my favourite songs - I was 4 years old and my mum had it on repeat play on the jukebox. I still have the original record.
👍 great ! Could you post it on you tube ?
Brotherhood of man won eurovision for uk that year. A favourite at the time .my sister was 3 and thought the song was for her
A wonderful typical Song of The 70ies
Better than their 1978 entry

I think it would have done better than the bad old days
wake up?? hearing that?? i don't think so!
Cheryl Baker had a few shots at winning before she finally made it!
Would have been disqualified as it was released 2 years earlier.
I thought first this is a Karelian song as I know Piirpauke has made 'Konevitsan kirkonkellot' and 'Kylätiellä'
Thanks a lot! can please tell us wht's their names?
Is there a record of this gorgeous song ???
Yes - i think it made the top 20 in the uk charts. music.ruclips.net/video/1RSVD6a54AM/видео.html&feature=share

Totally different lyrics, far better version.
Who is the dark hair girl. There was a blonde girl.jo in eurovision 1978. Is it the same person
No - Josie Andrews replaced Kay Langfield in late 1976 and was with the band at the ESC in '78.
what ever became of josie andrews from 1978@@juliejoannebevan6617
Cheryl out of key again.😁
Thank goodness this song didn't win. Brotherhood Of Man are now legendary with a song that is far superior to this one.
Beggars belief that Polly Brown and her trio singing DYBILAFS? could only manage 10th position out of 12.
Probably did not fit the EVSC formula.
Greg AVFC 69/70 Jones far superior as well as love kiss and run
Thank goodness this wasn't our song that year.
Vivacious performance but would never have won the contest.
They don't make songs like this anymore. Thank f*ck.
