Well, he's only really playing with his right hand and foot. The pattern doesn't change. I'm sure with a bit of practice you could make playing that muscle memory and then just do whatever with your left hand. If you don't think you could do it - maybe try it! If still not, keep practicing and you'll get to the stage where it's possible. :)
This is what I thought too at first.... "he's just doing a normal rythm with the right hand and a clear, structured theme with the left hand on the piano", EXCEPT that he doesn't play the main-theme on the keyboard, he actually plays the bass. The theme that the guy plays on his keyboard on the right is pretty "easy", quite repetitive, easy structure, not very swift or anything. But all along I thought that this is what the drummer was actually playing but NO, the drummer actually plays the BASS part with the left hand, and if you listen well, you can hear that the stuff he plays with the left hand (with the weird sound) is actually pretty off-tempo sometime, quite fast and NOT in sync with the drum (right hand). So, well, the whole thing IS actually very impressive.
Looks very simple honestly. Not attempting to belittle is but he sticks with the same drum beat through it which is very simple and the keyboard playing isn't at all complex.
