Absolutely. Yes, if you wish to have several dramatically different set ups, and/or very different routing on various memories, it may be advantagous to go with a "Per Memory" configuration very early on. It will very likely reduce all sorts of confusion later on ...
Once any configuration adjustments are made, or whenever you've recorded any tracks you wish to keep for future use ... then you should always save the memory !!
