Hey Hank, Instead of messing with those little batteries all the time, why don’t you make a set of heavy jumper cables about 25 ft long out of 1/0 or 2/0 welding lead. Put a quick disconnect on one end and heavy clamps on the other. Then build a jump pack out of two 4D size batteries and mount that in the bed or one of the side boxes on your truck. Run more cables on your truck to the front bumper with the corresponding quick connects for your jumper cables. Rig the truck cables one set each for 12 and 24 volts. Then use the truck’s charging system to keep the batteries charged when you’re going to and from your projects. The good part is all you need to carry around those machines is one end of a set of jumper cables. I worked at a construction job that had several mechanic trucks rigged up this way and they worked great.
That's exactly the setup I made for my receiver hitch mounted 12k winch. Ran 1/0 cable from the battery to the rear bumper with quick connects. Put quick connects on the winch. Then I installed a front bumper receiver hitch so I could mount the winch on the front with a quick connect in the bumper. Then I realized I could use this for jumper cables and I built 30' jumper leads with quick connects. Then I realized I could use it for my HV compressor so I added a quick connect to it. Every time I think of a new accessory I think about how I can convert it to use my quick connections. I'm looking at adding a DC Stick welder interface so I can do mobile repairs as well. I'll never have to open the hood on a recovery again.
@@lwwarren So do you have the Warn winch that came set up with the receiver hitch cradle and the quick connect wiring? My Dad has all of that on his truck and the Warn front receiver hitch too.
Absolutely, I've stopped watching the channel because of all the messing around with the batteries. Every video is the same....20 minutes with them dicking about with vice grips and battery cables!
Just listening to Y'alls BSing each other is always worth the watch. This is the first dozer I ever got to operate and its still in the neighbors barn that recently passed away.
I worked on these brand new,the blade is a bull blade with tilt assist ram. This model 16 did come out in the mid 60,s and they were about 3 tons heavier than their predecessors, they were a powerful and agile machine, here in they were used in forestry and general earth works I love your blog, its just me all over, wish I could be there.
Sometimes the injector pump can leak into the engine crank case through the shaft seals and cause the oil level to rise. At least it happened to my JD 350c (1978).
My grandpa owned a Allis Chalmers farm tractor and I think it was sitting for 20 years or so and it started up without any issues whatsoever which I was surprised about it but when I was a kid I use to sit on his lap to try driving it with him but now I'm 34 and he's long gone now due to Parkinson's that he had and I really miss him. God rest his soul.
Hay guys it's fun going out and playing with this old equipment and getting them running again, and as long as you are having fun and talking about all the things you do and have done , maybe some of the young people will learn something, most of the young people today depend on their computer to tell them what to do, ( LOL) But for me it's just fun to listen and watch you guys do your best to get stuff running
I just love watching ya ll work on old machines. At the ripe ol age of five I got to help my dad get a dragline in a feild running, it wZ a old busyrus. At the age of 10 he put me on a international dozer pushin dirt at a landfill. Yall remind me of him.
Allis-Chalmers used and then purchased engines from Buda Engine Company, which started in Buda, Il. Which is where my family is from and we still have a farm there.
Hey guys, for those tight spots get yourself some various length extensions and some swivel sockets they work great , also pick up a short handle ratchet
If he had used a pull handle & worked those bolts back & forth he wouldnt of rung any of them off like its a throw away! Plus he wouldnt of gotten any stuck in the sockets to take 15 mins getting them out! I want be watching many more of these!
I’ve driven allis chalmers equipment and worked on it too. I did a lot of mobile service for the farmers around here but also done it on construction sites too
I'm here in California and worked in the woods logging and those that ran the dozers were called "Catskinners" , I assume because they were all caterpillar equipment
9:40 That's setting huge warning klaxons off in my head. Oil floats atop water. You stick a dipstick into a sump that's got 3 gallons of water beneath 4 gallons of oil in an engine that hasn't rotated in years you'll get a dipstick looking exactly like that. My next step would be dropping the drain plug out of it and seeing how long it takes to get oil out. I'd bet dollars to donuts there's a LOT of water in that crankcase., It could also have a lot of diesel in it, which would mix in well, still lift the level up. Your sign there would be it smelled dieselly and had zero viscosity. Still, I'd be draining and refilling the sump before I tried to start that engine.
I'll bet your granddad loved every minute of wrenching on that old beast with you, James. I'm certain he felt pride as you learned things he taught, doing them without him having to ask after awhile. And I also bet that whole project was the source of good memories that you have til this day. Thanks for sharing, brother.
I was born in Long Beach,California ...moved to the East coast and spent 3 wonderful years in Illinois.Moved back to California in 1968 & live in San Diego...great weather but high taxes + the worse Governor in all USA! Hank thank you for your service.
Thanks for another great video. It was interesting. Sorry you could not get it to run. You got it to just start but would not keep going. Try having that ether more accessible and give it big doses. The bigger the engine the more it needs. You and Wiley put your all into it. Wanted to go. I bet it had huge batteries in it to run the starter. Tough old machine to get started. Sorry guys. You gave it a great try. Thanks hank and Wiley for your efforts. The Iowa Farm Boy.
Harvey, IL is a southern suburb of Chicago. The reason the tag says Harvey is that the engine was manufactured there. It was originally the Buda Engine Co which A/C purchased in 1953. Moline, the home of Deere, is in the Quad Cities on the opposite (west) side of IL and sits on the Mississippi River. Interestingly enough, Farmall tractors were made in Rock Island, IL which sits next to Moline and is another of the Quad Cities, Bettendorf and Davenport, IA being the other two. Thus, concludes today's history lesson, lol
Those out board final bearings were a weak point on Allis dozers. You need to check the wishbones and make sure they are tight also if they loosen up it will cause the axle to misalign
My landlord had one of those. It was parked for probably 20 years. Between a friend and myself, we got it running and back to work , it was a fun project
It help if you pulled back on the throttle so it was getting fuel. For as many videos as you guys do you sure miss the basics to getting stuff running but maybe you do that on purpose for the comment generator effect.
I had an hd 16 just like that one. For some reason the fuel shutoff was backwards,u push it in to shut down the fuel and pulled it out to run. Not sure if that was the way they were all set up or someone changed it.great pushing tractor, torque converted kept the tracks from breaking loose for max traction
Hey guys, if you want to increase the Amps but not the Voltage then you put the batteries in parallel but you would need to parallel both of them so you would need 4 batteries
Guys the last thing you do not want to do is hit a battery post with hammer or any thing there is a connection that that it breaks and I just learned that 2 years ago and I have been turning tools for over 50 years and probably broken over 4000 of them guys I love your show. God Bless you both and your family’s.
Hey yall it started we seen it run and yall gave it a hell of a fight we appreciate yall too for giving us someone to watch play with stuff we ain’t got time to ourselves. I appreciate y’all thank ya 👍🏻 JR..
Warning were just havin fun, if you take things too serious, this channel may not be for you buddy! I’ve actually had it off the intro for awhile. You may of just inspired me to put it back on! Keep up the good work gentlemen!
When Wiley sad you read my mind I immediately thiught: If you could read my mind, love What a tale my thoughts could tell Just like an old time movie 'Bout a ghost from a wishing well

What my uncle said about "fuel oil" from the past is that back then they called Diesel "Fuel Oil". Diesel is a bit more modern term, although the Diesel mix back then probably had a little more of a lubricant in it as well, so it would have been fuel+oil.
I saw several of these Dozers in South Vietnam in 1968 and 1969. I remember one at Conthein military Base just below the DMZ it had been on fire after the North Vietnamese had tried to come thru the perimeter.. The dozer was sitting on the perimeter. Actually the dozer may have been bigger than the one on your video. Then I saw another in 1998 at Fort Polk Louisiana in a military museum. It was military green in color and hadn't been used enough to wear the blade or the tracks. So that is two dozer stories both were U S Army Dozers.
Hank y’all need one them battery powered impact guns they help alot much better then hand tools plus the vibration from the impact helps to loosen rusty bolts and nuts
My neighbor up the Street in Tupelo,Mississippi had alias Chalmers bulldozer I had to move it because he had a broken leg I had to park it in a different spot in his back yard that machine was fun to operate

I like the fact that you take older equipment and get them up and running again. I want to do this eventually.
Thank you for your service to our country sir
I’ve driven allis chalmers equipment and worked on it too. I did a lot of mobile service for the farmers around here but also done it on construction sites too

That’s cool as heck. My dad bought one we had on the farm growing up. That machine was a beast digging big rocks and pushing trees over.
key should be on left side of seat on battery box 2. check oil while engine is running

Back in the mid 90’s my grandfather and I completely restored a 1969 HD11 Allis Chalmer. It was cable driven.

Hey guys, my husband enjoys your videos. He is retired but was a heavy equipment operator and makes lots of suggestions while he's watching it. LOL.
Tell him we said thank you for watching!
Love all your videos buddy. Always been a fan of the older diesels with turbos. Nothing like hearing the diesel and its turbo make some noise again

I really dont think so! Anyone who can ring that many bolts off in a row, got all their tools for Christmas not many mechanics got all brand new tools
Looks more like a brush guard. A ROPS would be a lot more heavier built to support the tractor in a rollover. Keep up the good work, boys!
Did you guys drain the fuel out of the tank
Thank you for sharing and your APPRECIATION to your subscribers Hank
It is a testament to the old geezers that work so hard to get those old relics up and running either take buy or take them home for someone.
I hope you can get it to start I would like to see it running 😊

#2 Fuel Oil is basically desiel. We burn it in our boilers, backhoe, tractor, lull, etc.

Diesel is a light oil.
Wean you guys find the construction equipment do you guys take it back and break it down and restore it all then sell it or what do you do
Good job and God bless y'all

Great try thanks Hank and Wylie
Usually the toggle switch on right you turn to left for glow plugs and to right for power to starter button If it turns to left and the right that is.
The big batteries that was in there at the start I think are 4DLT batteries
Hank y’all need one them battery powered impact guns they help alot much better then hand tools plus the vibration from the impact helps to loosen rusty bolts and nuts
Wiley is the best!! Keep on keeping on
My neighbor up the Street in Tupelo,Mississippi had alias Chalmers bulldozer I had to move it because he had a broken leg I had to park it in a different spot in his back yard that machine was fun to operate
Love the longer videos great job
What happened to the vice u had for the hitch.
They had Hd16's and D7's when I trained at Fort Lenard wood

You 2 definitely talk a lot 2 each other! It is all worth it!!
trailer frame looks pretty good
Good Evening Gentlemen , I hope you are having a fantastic day today ! 😊
Yall boys need to start bringing some battery terminals to the job site !
Hank, you sing better than I do!!!!!!
Us old farmers were the mechanics like you guys
Did you keep the old diesel or you drained it and put fresh one.
OMG pudding rocks he is one of my top channels how do you like his free up frozen engine with vinegar and other stuff funny guy
I laughed pretty hard when Wiley said It takes Squidward to operate it.
Yes I have ,,,,and it caught on fire!
