  • I was invited to salvage a few stores in downtown Kerrobert prior to demolition, these buildings were of similar age, but the one building in particular was much more original than the others making it very fruitful for architectural salvage. Follow along to see what we were able to save along with some exiting and unexpected discoveries along the way!

    Austin, I'm thinking nothing's really truly free. If you spent a little bit of money on food and drink you could probably get 10 or 15 of your friends out there. There's enough spare material to take down in that building for numerous projects. All the tents supports for the drop ceiling, and other metals that you do not want put in a pile you can sell that for scrap like all that plumbing pipe truly truly I say pick that sucker clean like a buzzer on roadkill hahaha I haven't seen you in a while absolutely love the channel ever since I first seen you on Alex's channel your skill and talents are beyond belief perhaps this building being donated materials to you is a blessing from above to help you recoup some of your losses from last year so when your trucks were damaged stolen vandalized etc I mean shoot the building's already paying you hard cold cash hahaha God bless brother

They are a newer channel based in southeast Saskatchewan and have some pretty great content. They need subscribers!!
    I’m glad I saw their video today, made me realize I haven’t watched one of yours for awhile! Enjoyed it as always!

    In the 60s and 70s in the US they had what was called urban renewal. In my opinion, it was more like urban destruction. I suspect Canada experienced a similar thing. Only now are owners exposing these wonderful old ceilings, creaky wooden floors and exposed brick walls. It’s great. At the same time, people painted the gorgeous exposed woodwork. Such a shame. It’s nice to see this new generation forming a new appreciation for this wonderful architecture. So sad you weren’t invited sooner. You could have salvaged so much more.

    The first half of this video was really interesting. I enjoyed seeing you go through every inch of those buildings. You found some nice treasures for sure. The drone footage was a great to see, however, it was spinning around a bit too fast for me at times. Just a tip - do a speed up for the actual demolition. Instead of 50 minutes of it, it would be cool to see it all come down in 5 minutes. Thanks for posting this Austin! Have a great weekend!

    About 3 minutes in of a video with a movie-like running time of 101 minutes, and he goes "This is gonna be a quick video....". I am not sure if it was optimism or pessimism that spoke there :). But I wonder, are there many customers that go for having stuff built with reclaimed wood?

    • @AustinTischler
      @AustinTischler  2 года назад +1

      I guess I filmed a little more than I thought I would lol. I have had a couple clients requests reclaimed materials mainly to match existing, but for the most part I just use the recycled lumber on my own projects such as the saloon and some stuff I have planned in the future!

    • @needfortweed8734
      @needfortweed8734 2 года назад

      @@AustinTischler Hehe. I guess you were just in the zone. Thanks for recording it and putting it together for us. On the subject of lumber, with the prices as high as they are now on new lumber, do you think there might be a market for good recycled lumber for building purposes, or should it be relegated to own projects (such as your wonderful saloon) or furniture? I don't know how things are in Canada, but here in Norway tables and stuff made out of driftwood started to pop up for sale. It wasn't cheap either. And a lot of that driftwood seems more life reclaimed wood that have not been close to water at all...

    That tin salvage!! It will clean up for the most part. I am so jealous! I see so much there I'd salvage. Everything you have would SELL in the states. Alex might want the gum ball pieces. YES!! Take those light switches! There's a guy in St. Louis who is restoring his 2nd Empire house and he needs those. Take the whole doors. Take the knobs off later. Even the doors would be worth something here. Dry clean the ties!!
    Those carpet samples were plush. Shag was long yarns. You could "rake" them with a carpet rake. Ghastly stuff!

    Back in the 80's there was an old strip center that was being torn down to make room for a new 2-story shopping center. Everyone else was bought out except for a swim shop owned by a 70-year-old woman who had been there for 40 years and had bought her section for $2,000. After multiple offers that she refused (and help up construction for 18 months), she finally sold it to the developers for $1M. She then bought another shop about 1/4-mile down the street for $100K. NICE PROFIT! After retiring at 78 she gave the business to one of her kids and by the time she died, she had turned that $900K profit into $16M that she left ti her kids and grandkids. Smart woman!
