Your summation at the end of this video is superb. I too found Twin Perfects theory to be astounding and well thought out but it assumes alot and seems to be more about the production of the show that the creation of it , I think The Return and especially its ending was designed to work on many possibilities of meaning and there is no one theory that explains everything,

Do you think the lyrics to that song by The Chromatics - 'Shadow' were secretly written by Lynch; or did the band get direction from Lynch re lyrical content? (It's just credited to the band.) But is the only one with lyrics that seem to overtly reference what happens throughout the season -- " *Shadow* [Mr C], take me *down* with you [morally/to hell] for the *last time* [last season/end of Mr C's run]. "Driving in your car." "I *took your picture from the frame, and now you're nothing like you seem [Sarah Palmer takes Laura's picture from frame via knife attack frenzy; and then afterward Laura *is nothing like she seemed* in the next episode [18].]
Either way, it's a great piece of electronic dream pop; great way to close the first episode.

That framed photo of Laura is kinda symbolic of the 1st 2 seasons. Could be a metaphor for the old show getting 'knife-attacked' by the TV network by revealing the killer.

@@TheVlogLady and there's a logical reason why he'd pull his name from the credits of that song in particular -- being the 1st episode it would've had people looking at the lyrics under a fine toothcomb for meaning.

Fantasy Twin Peaks casting: James Cromwell, Brad Dourif, Milla Jovovich, John Cusack, Anne Bancroft, Jennifer Connelly, and any real life child of a Twin Peaks artist (like Zooey Dechannel or Rashida Jones).

suggestion for topic: I don't remember exactly which episode in season 3, but it's one of Sarah's scenes, I think it's the one when she's watching the lions kill the buffalo: We get a glimpse outside the house. The Palmer house looks like it does in episode 18 and not like it does in the rest of the season. The bushes and lamps inside the windows are different. In The Final Dossier it's also revealed the Sarah "you really want to fuck with this?"-incident takes place after the sheriff station showdown. Do you think more scenes might take place in sort of an epilogue and/or the Odessa world that's been hiding under our noses? And what might be the significance of that?

I'd never really thought of which actors I'd like to see in TP, i didn't like seeing really familiar faces on the return but still thought it was a great cast. Toby Jones would be a good fit, and maybe Peter Dinklage too. I did watch Twin Perfect, big effort but yeah trying to pin it down exactly really ruined it, if he was truly a fan of Lynch he'd know he doesn't himself have a single explanation for things, it's an experience, an idea, an emotion, a dream, it's not concrete.

There's never just one correct interpretation of a work of art like Twin Peaks, no matter what Mark Frost or anybody else might have said in an interview. On a related note I'd love to hear your thoughts about season 3 of Dark sometime if you are still interested in that show as your ideas are always fascinating.

  • @michaellangwaller

I think Twin Peaks is much like SCP wiki lore, up for interpretation and individual head canon. This jives with how Frost and Lynch both have spoken about their works.

I couldn't agree more with your opinion on the Twin Perfect explanation. It was certainly an interesting watch, but I feel like TP is so much more than what he is claiming it to be. I think his theory definitely has some validity, but I feel like not everything HAS to fit into this, and the way he claims it does was kinda annoying. Anyways, TP will always have a way more spiritual and emotional meaning to me that no theory can ever explain away.

Suggestion for the box: the appreciation of Mark Frost's share of the creation of the world of Twin Peaks, its characters, its stories. The chevron pattern in the Black Lodge is made up of two different colors, usually only the influence of one color is considered. It would be great to get a closer look into the contributions of the other color. To bring balance.

I've watched the whole of The Return again since watching Twin Perfect's entertainingly intricate, and persuasive interpretation, and it didn't seem to remove the mystery for me at all... I'm definitely with you on the 'multiple theories being at play' perspective and found many theories still jostling for my attention at different points on this rewatch. I was relieved this was the case as I was initially concerned the veil had been lifted.
Also agree Frosts vision, contribution and his shaping of the narrative should not be underestimated!

I have seen so many youtubers trying to explain Twin peaks and most of them have therories I can belive and appreciate, but the one I personally belives is closest to what it all means are the channel "Corn pone flicks". He has made 8 episodes trying to explain different questions and mysteries whitout ever saying that his own theory is the absolut only correct one. He makes his videos with alot of humour so I can really recommend watching them.

  • @daveyslaven1980

My interpretation of Twin Peaks personally?? Twin Peaks and its characters are a manifestation of somebody's subconscious. Possibly they're in a coma. Remember the quote, "we live inside a dream?" Who is the dreamer? Dale Cooper my guess is on. We see all or most of what goes on story wise through Coopers eyes. I don't know if you've seen Life on Mars, but its the same whacky type of show. There's differences but the similarities are too close to ignore. Again, it's my theory, and even if its not right, it's fun to dream, pardon the pun.

    • @neilsun2521
      @neilsun2521 4 года назад

Episodes 3-17 are Cooper's dream I think. As he appears to wake-up after Mr C is burned in the red room. We see a long section in the police station where Cooper's face is overlaying the film. Showing the dreamer; awakening; just before his FBI badge re-appears on his blazer.

A lot of the actors I'd like to have seen in The Return where actors that were actually in it but who we didn't get see enough of. I particularly think that Madeline Zima, who played Tracey, and Sky Ferreira, one of the Roadhouse booth girls, should have had bigger parts, along with all the original cast, including characters like Ian Buchanan (Dick Tremayne).

I think when Coop crossed over to the other dimension, he merged with Richard, explaining the difference in his behavior. The same applies to Laura and Carrie. Laura became submerged, until she reached her home.

My problem with Twin Perfect's videos is he's both saying keep your eyes on the donut not the hole and "give me any clip and I'll say how it relates to the theory". What I like about your videos for example is you consider many explanations and don't, at least for your audience, settle too definitely on a single one. Twin Perfect tries to make the trees about telephone poles and every other little detail tell a consistent narrative and he's more sure of it than I think he ought to. David Lynch on the other hand has been very clear on that you can't translate film to words and semantic concepts without losing things in translation. I really don't think every detail of Twin Peaks is a hint of a bigger narrative, art rarely is but that doesn't make the details less emotionally important. I like the idea of Twin Peaks as a meta commentary but Twin Perfect unfortunately makes it into The Bible Code. And the thing that debunked The Bible Code was that you could find messages in any book if you looked for them hard enough.

    • @sorlag110

I also agree with you about Mark Frost. And so does Lynch who've said Twin Peaks is a product of both of them equally.

i stay away from twin peaks explained videos. the exception being the videos wow lynch wow does.. I feel like a lot of the story is best left to the individual viewer to digest and just live with. i certainly don't want to have the mysteries, in the return, to be diminished, or trivialized or reduced to some simple/uninteresting theory.. But, thank you for talking about this, so that we can get some idea about what the explained videos are saying.. I see the vid's come up in my recommended list, but like I said, I don't want that bubble burst/mystery explained.. Cheers, and stay safe

I actually thought Twin Perfect's explanation was spot on and the proof will be that there will never ever be another Twin Peaks series or movie. When I saw the end of episode 18 of The Return I felt like that was the end for good, and he explained why. Just my opinion but that's the beauty of Lynch is he makes art that can be many things to many people, including the guy who made it.
