  • Musing about Twin Peaks, including who are the Chalfonts and Tremonds, why the King Arthur references, numb arms and Bob's rank.
At 10:32 I mean the Carrie Page version of Laura, lol.

I could listen to you talk about Twin Peaks all day long every day. The name of Pierre for the little boy was apparently given in The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer. I always think of Bob as something of a rebel among the Lodge spirits and that the others were neutral or opposed to him.
Arguably King Arthur betrayed people too by fathering Mordred, often portrayed as an evil version of Arthur, which led to the destruction of his kingdom.

I think Pierre isn't necessarily Leland at a young age, but more likely the innocent part of Leland's soul that has been held hostage by BOB. It calls to mind the story that Leland told about accepting BOB into his soul as a young boy. This also happens to be in the same episode where Pierre is introduced.
Pierre also refers to "the man behind the mask" searching for Laura's diary and that the man is "under the fan now". This prompts Laura to rush home unexpectedly to discover BOB/Leland behind her dresser where she hides her diary. And outside of Laura's room is that ever prominent ceiling fan that's featured prominently throughout the series.
Anyways, just my theories, I love the videos! It's so important to have a discussion about theories and really work out which pieces fit together!
I'm going to try and come up with a question for you, but I'm going to have to come up with a good one that hasn't been discussed yet.

The fact Leland is talking about accepting Bob into his soul as a young boy in the very same episode Pierre appears for the first time is really interesting. I had no rememberence of that being the case.
This also brings to mind the fact Pierre is living with his Grandmother, just like Leland (Bob) is living with Sarah (Judy?) In the original show. Which also connects to the end of season 3 where we find out the Tremonds and the Chalfont have been living in Sarah Palmer's house.
Interesting stuff, wonder wether there's anything to it or not.

I often wonder if the numbness in peoples arms are from direct victims of BOB and if the numbness represents the strength being removed purposely to make "the glove" that ultimately destroys him.

Hmm, could the Chalfont/Tremond name change be connected to the Dale/Richard, Diane/Linda name change? Maybe not since one is a last name and one is a first name. I don't know.
You already touched on everything that comes to mind for me about the numb arms. I think you're spot on with the losing yourself thing and the One Armed Man connection. He eventually took off the whole arm and it grew and evolved into its own being. If he hadn't removed it, what would have happened to him?
Maybe Merlin is the magician who is referenced in the Fire Walk With Me poem? I love the idea of Laura being the Holy Grail! Could she also be the Lady of the Lake? The first time we see her, her body has just come out of the water and washed up on shore. Laura also resides in a place that could be considered an Otherworld, just like the Lady. An Otherworld is defined as a realm of supernatural beings and the dead. I think there is also a story about the Lady giving someone a magic ring. Very interesting!

I think numb arm foretells one's arrival on The Lodge. Remember, Cooper had a numb arm before being trapped there.
It being the left arm is also significant since the heart is on the left side and the evolution of the arm's fleshy bit looks an awful lot like a heart. I think the soul in the heart leaves the body through the left arm. Also remember when BOB was leaving the lodge, first his arm appears. I think he moves through electricity (the poles, the ceiling fan, Mr. C travelling with wires, the telephone that ejects Mr C from Jeffries' room, The electrician saying electricity before transporting BOB and the Arm to the Lodge). He moves through electricity and arm, trees etc has the same forking nature as the electricity.

Does this mean that Pete (who also references 12 rainbow trout in the bed) and the old lady that eats cherry pie in season 2 are also foretold of entering the lodge?

    • @xyttra
      @xyttra 3 года назад +1

@@jarodcasano881 Could be. We don't know what happened to them. Pete certainly is a more mysterious character than he appears. Lynch said he was supposed to wear the green glove but sadly he passed away.

For what it's worth: the dad character in Eraserhead, who was a plumber, tells Henry about his numb arm: "... years ago, I had an operation on my arm here. Doctors said I won't be able to use it. But what the hell do they know, I said. And I rubbed it for a half hour every day and I've got those... I could move it a little. And I got... so I could turn a faucet and pretty soon I had my arm back again. Now I can't feel a damn thing in it. All numb..." www.script-o-rama.com/movie_scripts/e/eraserhead-script-transcript-david-lynch.html

I used to be of the impression that the scene above the convenience store was showing Philip’s experience there, but in my latest viewing I interpreted it as Chet entering after grabbing the ring. “Fell a victim” could refer to Theresa, whom Chet had been investigating, or himself. “with this ring, I thee wed”
The Chalfonts/Tremonds are NOT impartial. To me, they are incredibly sinister
Edit: your King Arthur anecdotes were so interesting! Makes me want to learn more about him.

I can't wait to see what your next video is about! I always enjoy hearing your thoughts on all different topics. :) Here is a Twin Peaks question for if you decide to do more of these videos as well:
What are some of your favorite pieces of music from Twin Peaks? Could be original pieces of music from the score, songs that were featured in the show, songs that were performed at the Roadhouse, or all of the above.
Thanks for always inspiring me to dig a bit deeper into aspects of things I may not have previously considered!

Commenting on your question at 15:29
I actually watched all of The Return before seeing the movie! And I was certainly confused by some aspects of The Return.
I watched Fire Walk with Me a few weeks after finishing The Return and it was actually incredible in that way. For instance, in part 17 and 18 of The Return the scenes from FWWM were so out of nowhere and surreal, seeing them in the actual movie put a lot of things in context and I feel like I was able to make lots of connections quickly on my first watch of FWWM.
The reason I didn't see the movie before The Return was a mixture of confusion on what it was, my two year long initial watch of season 1 and 2 (difficult for me to feel invested at first [but I was hooked and astounded by the finale of season 2]), and The Return having just finished and being so alluring.

I looked up the etymology of the word 'tremond' and, first off it appears it's one of the rarest names out there. Currently only 87 people alive have the surname Tremond. (If the site I looked at is correct.) Also it says that according to Vedic Astrology, the name Tremond is ruled over by Jupiter -- Jupiter is the feminine to Saturn's masculine. Dale Cooper's just spent 25 years sat next to a mini-saturn table lamp; and Saturn rules over time.
I definitely think the rarity of the name is important, because if it was 'Smith' or something there'd be no coincidence or mystery to the re-occurences of it.

@@TheVlogLady Also, looking at the word Tremond: (tre*mon*d) it's got a 'Mon' in it. Mon = Moon. Monday / Moon day / day of the moon. And the moon = feminine. Has feminine qualities/properties. The sun = masculine.
Each day of our week is named after a wandering star. *Satur*day = Saturn day, (or Saturnalia in ancient times) and *Sun*day = Sun day; day of the sun.
Jupiter is Tuesday (Tues/Zeus); and Friday is Venus. I can't remember the others.

Also: 'Month' = *Mon*th. The moon(th) has a monthly cycle. The whole cosmology above us is basically just a very complicated clock!

Hi Emma! Please keep doing these, you and they are a joy to watch. I have plenty of Twin Peaks theories that satisfy me, and I could go on and on with them. I won't ramble on about the reason I think this... but I believe that, mirroring Laura's first whisper to Coop, "My father killed me." in The Return her whisper to Coop is, "You killed us." If you rewatch his reaction to it, it certainly fits. And I also believe, as chronological as you can get in The Lodge/Waiting Room non-time, Laura and Coop's meeting with the Angel in Fire Walk With Me is still The Ending of the story. What do you believe Laura whispered to Cooper? Thank you for you.

    1) Sad, if this is the last Twin Peaks related video for now. I hope you'll find more topcis. I'm curious to see what your next not Twin Peaks related videos will be about.
    2) I just watched Diary of a Madman with Vincent Price from 1963, and the invisible Horla could very well be a Black Lodge/Convenient Store creature. The Horla is clearly more than just an external voice. And just like Leland, the Vincent Price character is taken over by the Horla, but in the end has enough will to fight the Horla, kills him, but is also killed by accident. The movie ends with the priest saying wherever evil comes up in the heart of man, the Horla is alive. And the Horla isn't alone, he was just one of their kind of entity. Looks like there's no clear line between humans, the human heart and the Lodge creatures, and maybe that's the reason why especially The Return blurs that distinction between everyday reality and Lodge reality.
2.5) Maybe the Palmer house is a part of the Black Lodge, a place of evil, and Carrie screamed because she got a vision of murder in her head, kind of like Maddy, who fell into a dream, or rather a nightmare.
    3) The King Arthur segment is powerful, Emma. I have to watch it again to soak everything in. One thing is for sure, the King Arthur myth is like the Twin Peaks myth (and the biblical myths), it definitely has more meaning and profoundness for the people who are historically and geographically connected with it, but it also grips the hearts and imaginations of people in other countries. As comparison: I was born and raised in Germany in the 70s/80s and I have read German myths as a boy and they have certainly inspired my imagination at that time, but they didn't have that staying power. But, the language I have learned and typical German names and landscapes and architecture have a certain quality to them which says "home" and "origin." On the other hand, I'm drawn to both versions of the English language, the sound of English is enormously satisfying to me, and I often wondered if I should migrate into an English speaking country.

Maybe because Pierre says "Fell a victim" and points it just means he already sees/knows what Bob will do because of time being wonky for the spirits.

I've seen some footage of the excavation of King Arthur's South-Wales burial site: At 4:38 in this vid there's Arthur's burial-cross which reads "Pro Anima Artorius" (For the Soul of Arthur) ruclips.net/video/zNBd2mgW9RQ/видео.html
Wilson & Blackett have done a lot of interesting independent historical work. I'd recommend Richard Hall in general if you're not familiar with him; he's the one who brought my attention to it some years ago.

I've never heard of the "King Arthur's going to return" stuff before. It's fairly established that there were 2 King Arthurs: 1 in the 5th or 6th century and a previous 1 approximately 200 years earlier. This "resurection" thing sounds, to me, like possible muddying of the waters. (It's certainly not a subject our current monarchy are happy about!) Here's RDH's site-page with all his King Arthur vids: www.richplanet.net/richp_search_menu.php?searchtext=king+arthur
