- Modern PVZ2 is truly something special. It's an enigma in the gaming world, for real. Like, this game could have (and possibly should have) died years ago, but it's still hanging on by a thread to this day. And while that's normally commendable, I feel like that's lead to some... poor decisions being made in recent years to keep the game afloat. And the nostalgia pandering is, in my opinion, the worst of it.

The point is because they want players to feel nostalgic.
Guys there is no point complaining is not gonna help, popcap and ea can do as they please, add what they want etc, you can hate all you wish, but thats not gonna change 1 thing, and you all KNOW it. I admit it has some issues, but if this and that is so horrible dont play or get/use whatever it is, its so simple. Besides we should focus on the triple dragon plant for pvz 2 coming this winter etc.
Also i think is that for scaredy shroom worked well for when suns were 50 and had to save suns to build a good defense but do to how fast pvz2 is that idea does not work
I just think it's funny because PVZ2NA and PVZ3 both seem so horrible to me and I basically only play PVZ2 mods.
It's cool that they are doing this, but it's far too late.
On one hand, I feel sad about PvZ's general decline.
On the other hand...I have a spiritual successor to PvZ slated for release in 2029, which'll make my Bug Fables moment alllllll the sweeter.
My main concern is that when they start running low on plants, they’re going to have to add * gulp * coffee bean back.
I thought the mushroom plants no longer sleep during the day, unlike in PvZ 1.

Coffee Bean is already in the Chinese Version to help counter Archmage Zombie that put plants to sleep in the Dark Ages also gives plants a small minor damage boost

If he was added when Dark Ages was released I'd like the mushroom plants to be half awake in the day because of their tiredness and afterwards fall asleep
As someone who stopped playing after the adventure mode ended, It's a shame to see the huge drop in quality the game has been facing, especially in it's art and animations.
What I hope for is that the game does get somewhat back to where it was in the past, but knowing modern PopCap… not likely

For the Scaredy Shroom removal, one of the main reason why of this decision along a lot of shroom that as well got removed on DA was because a lot of Popcap Developers left PvZ2 during Dark Ages development. Thats also the reason for being the shortest world.
Yeah, with that context it does make a lot more sense. Though I also feel like even back then, PopCap probably realized that Scaredy would have been a better Peashooter if he worked the same way that he did in PVZ1

@@TherevengeforgetI mean, if you take plant levels into account Peashooter kinda skyrockets in usefulness. Well, although at a pretty steady pace.
Peashooter, along with the other plants you get in the tutorial, cost much less seed packets to level up. After playing for just a week and only doing pinata parties for ancient egypt, my Pea was already dealing more damage than Repeater for only 75 sun. Granted, Repeater now also deals more damage at the cost of 175, but it still makes the early game a breeze. Truly fitting of its role, ol' reliable.

@@Therevengeforget ... Except every other plant besides the tutorial ones take MUCH longer to level up compared to pea. I actually decided to replay the game again and I got pea to level 5 in just 2 days.

Pea packets are extremely easy to come across compared to all other plants.

THATS WHAT IM SAYING. I really don’t know why they decided to give him a new major design when his original design from the first game was literally perfect. The eyes, the mouth, and the stem literally didn’t have to be changed but for some reason they decided to make look tired/really freaking high. I’m sorry for ranting.. I just really dislike the design they gave him…

Trust me, you’re not the only one. It’s obvious that they’re only doing it as nostalgia bait, and they’re pretty open about it lol. I’m pretty sure they’ve had bundles offering MGP, Scaredy Shroom, and I forget what else, and labeled it as a “Nostalgia Bundle.”
They really should have pulled the plug on PvZ2 a long time ago, because this is starting to get even more sad than it was before.
@AzureWolf168 I mean, even with the “trying harder,” with each update, the game loses quality. What I should have clarified is that they should cut content updates in PvZ2 so they can focus more on PvZ3 and get it out. At least there they have an excuse for the different artstyle.

@AzureWolf168 I’m not a big fan of some of the recent design choices. The odd new font, the deteriorating consistency between plant designs, and the even worse powercreep and animation makes the game feel hollow. But that’s just my opinion.

Tbh I think that mega g. Pea was best of these. He has cool new design, is slightly reworked, and still usefull.

They saw the hype mega gatling pea generated and tried to repeat it. The problem is that other plants just don't work in pvz2.
Ice shroom is just ice bloom again
Scaredy shroom is just peashooter again but worse
Sea shroom can only be used in a single world
Mega gatling pea had none of these issues making it's return good
Ice shroom has received a complete buff and 2 new abilities, the guy who runs this youtube channel has done 0 research and basing everything he's read on how bad scaredy shroom is, which is the only thing he's right on. And Sea Shroom has received a grid item which can partner and be used along with him.

About Sea Shroom. I’m 99.9% sure that it’s canceled. I think the devs realized it would be absolutely useless and no one would care for it in any way. There hasn’t been any work done for Sea-Shroom sense it’s design got leaked… so yeah it’s definitely scrapped at this point. (Also before anyone mentions Nightcap being leaked long before she got added. Just note that Nightcap actively got changed and worked on in each patch, while Sea Shroom isn’t even a plant in the files, it’s only a Seed Packet image.)
I hope that’s the case, because frankly it doesn’t need to exist 😭
there's actually a grid item called "puddles" and "potholes" in the works and they're basically big wave beach water but only on one tile. this is 99.9% being done for sea shroom so he can be usable in arena and other stuff
The fact they’d need to go that far just to make sea shroom usable speaks nukes
theres 2 problems with this as 1: Nightcap took an insanely long time, and look in the upcoming content in the wiki theres Puddles
@@drago252 for the first one you mentioned. thing is. Nightcap is a very complex plant with multiple entirely brand new abilities they had to program. Sea Shroom is literally just Puff Shroom but water. Even if they gave it a new ability, I highly doubt it would take this long to make.
As for the puddles and potholes, I have no idea what those are for. but I highly doubt it’s for Sea Shroom. Maybe their an attempt to make Sea Flora not useless in their eyes (which wouldn’t work sense Sea Flora is trash but that’s besides the point) or they might be trying to make more water plants (dear god please no) either way, Sea Shroom probably isn’t happening. It could happen. Wouldn’t put it past modern Popcap. But still, probably ain’t happening.
I'm pretty sure they're significantly reworking Ice-Shroom in PVZ2, so he at least feels more reasonable than something like Scaredy-Shroom. I do agree though, and it's nice to see a video like this that's a reasonable length and not stretched out to 20 minutes for next to no reason.

Well, the main reason why we got more PvZ1 returners is because as you said, PvZ2 is a decade old by now so they might be doing this to celebrate, the problem is the choice, they brought back Gatling Pea last year and then they went to the COMPLETE opposite of the scale and brought back Scaredy Shroom, made a design for Sea Shroom, and making a VASTLY reworked Ice Shroom for the next update, Doom Shroom would have been a better choice because we need SOME counter to the bullshit zombie spam of the later worlds, Gloom Shroom would have made a better choice and has actually been made into one of the best custom plants in recent time, the fucking UMBRELLA LEAF would have been a better choice when you take into consideration all of the zombies and projectiles that fall from above, it’s almost like Umbrella Leaf was MEANT for PvZ2 for god's sakes!

I completely agree with all that, and they could add gold magnet, but change him that he could could collect sun instantly when sun comes. Though it wouldn’t exactly make it a GOLD magnet.
there is actually a concept idea for Gold Magnet in PvZ2 on scratch of all things and for the most part, it's rather solid

I agree with your video 100% but some of the returning plants personally I don't have a problem with them like the gatling pea and cattail for example and some of them might get a buff or a different power like ice shroom being a moon flower for ice plants but my problem is how they are introduced as a premium plant that make them less useful overful and also the animation and style is going low quality in the recents which will make the returning plants overall fell worse if those new plants/returnig plants have a purpose in a new world designed for them with better visual and animation I think the community will happily accept them (like the umbrella leaf defend from multiple obstacles and zombies in that world it was designed for) but for now It's totally annoying how they use nostalagia bait for money and we all agree if gold magnet makes a return in pvz2 we would literally lose our minds 🤣

gonna be 100% here. I agree, when i was younger i was disappointed that some of the PVZ1 plants were cut and was so jealous of 2C for having Cattail and OG Gatling Pea

They may be pointless in PvZ2 but as someone who played the first PvZ, I think it’s really cool to see every plant from the previous game come back for nostalgic reasons.

They turned my boi Doom Shroom into a… a pebble. I can’t really put into words how they butchered him so, only that they have.
Seeing the talk in the comments on Ice Shroom changing, if I were to change Scaredy Shroom, I would utilize some of the popular ideas in changing him such as higher hiding defense and shooting way faster when zombies are closer. One change of my own would be that when a zombie bites into him even once, they get poisoned. I mean, look at him. He's a flipping mushroom, and mushrooms are usually known to be toxic.
An idea i'd like is giving scardy shroom an mid-evil sheild when he uses the plant food. It sticks around and it gives scardy shroom the hp of that of an wallnut with the sheild
I've noticed that these are all the mushrooms, mainly. This is because, with the 50 sun, the ability to do stuff for cheap is less in demand
While Scaredy Shroom had a small niche in PvZ1 because the zombies were less adapt at breaking into the back line,
Even in PvZ1 it's purpose was questionable.

In PvZ2 they made an entire event to show off the plant,

is it just me or did the animation of the plants get stiffer? the starter plants like peashooter and cabbage pult have smooth animation but now the more recent plants like scaredy-shroom have stiffer animation. kinda weird but ok
You’re not wrong at all. For example the newest plant, Cranjelly has the worst animation in the game (imo) whenever the plant goes into its jelly form, the animation doesn’t even look smooth it just looks… weird and off. Not only that, but when the plant rolls offscreen, these cranjelly blobs just spawn it out of nowhere with even more lazier animations. I don’t know what they were doing when they animating that plants and its gimmicks..
I don't see why people get annoyed when old plants come back like they have to use them. It's even worse when some people who don't even play the game would complain about it. I don't get the issue tbh, and it ain't going to change anything, so seeing videos like these are more frustrating than understanding.
They added Sea shroom and made him an absolute grind to unlock. Just make him a world plant in big wave beach ffs 💀

ScaredyShroom from my knowledge wasn't cut because he didn't fit the first time, it's because the team was too small to fill their full vision with dark ages.
Honestly, I don't care that much about what they add, I just want it to be a little more polished.
Pvz 2 is an old game I just want popcap to fix all major bugs, like music not playing, before the game is not supported anymore.
That should be their priority right now, it’s frustrating how there’s still all these bugs, and yet they’re still adding Plants that we don’t need right now 😭

Pvz2 just should've been over at this point. Everything that Popcap has been doing to the game at this point is disgusting. They're literally destroying their own creation and if anything, they're crushing everyone's childhood by butchering these old pvz1 plants. It got to the point where I uninstalled vanilla pvz2 and I never looked back.
They should literally make a new world that is like a dark and water theme and put those premium plants into free plants
Personally, I think having the old plants return is just fun because of the principal of it. It’s been years and it makes sense for them to debut again. And also, we’re going to get more and more new plants anyways, why not have it just be the old ones?
I find it somewhat satisfying to see the plants come back, but I also completely understand your perspective.
i would like it if they didnt design it in the worst way possible most redesigns from the oringal game look quite a lot cleaner in pvz2 but that cant be said about the ones their currently putting out LIKE WTF DID THEY DO TO SCAREDY SHROOME

And btw, as an advice, I wouldn't put PvZ chinese as an example to follow, they put a lot of nostalgia content and made them extremely janky and inconsistent.
Cob Cannon plant requierent was maintained for weird reasons, and the two spaces interactions are very weird.
And let not even mention the OG Zombot, for the sake of god, if you saw it, you might wonder if thats was a 15 years old teen fanmade.
If any of the PvZ games doesn't exist except for PvZ and PvZ:GW, the world would be a much better place.
I guess you can see the differences of plants before the power mints/arena came out and after power mints/arena.
The only exception to this probably would be pumpkin. Personally, I love PvZ2 because updates and new plants are still ongoing. And in my opinion, I think these plants were made for strategic purposes not meant for the adventure, but for other modes (e.g. penny's pursuit, travel log quests, endless zones, etc) and levels with objectives.
For example, you can use scaredy-shroom, with its 25 sun cost, for objectives that requires not to spend too much sun, or if ail-mint plants are buffed.
But I still get your point. 👍
And that is my opinion at least.
It's not Popcaps fault it's the different creator, if you haven't learned already the original creator of the plants versus zombies team Left due to some issues, and the new team is giving us lazy animations for the plants, Useless Junk, more purchasable USELESS SEED PACKS, And so on.
The leaks say that Ice Shroom will be a strong melee plant that boosts nearby chilling plants. That just makes his appearance even more pointless. If it's entirely different plant, then why is it ice Shroom?

Much like you’ve said, most pvz 1 plants that were left out post modern day don’t have a use.
The only legacy plants I see functioning as they were in the original and still be useful are Pumpkin, Cob Cannon, and maybe Gatling Pea (and 2 of those 3 arlready exist). Other ones are outclassed by other similar plants (scaredy shroom, doom shroom, ice shroom, etc). Some would literally have no use (coffee bean, Plantern, flower pot) unless new world gimmicks were added.
Now, I could see some legacy plants being added with a new use. Perhaps coffee bean is used to give plants a buff, or gold magnet being used to automatically grab sun (more useful for pc players), maybe even give plantern an aoe healing effect. However, at that point you might as well just develop a new plant. Popcap has got to do better than simple nostalgia bait.

Cob Cannon already has a PvZ2 equivalent: Banana Launcher. It's not as strong, mostly because it's been rebalanced.
I'm here from the future: Iceshroom is a melee attacker that buffs nearby Wintermint plants in PvZ2.

Pop Cap are adding more non-pvz 1 plant to the game so what's wrong with this? And Tbh, l would love for all the pvz 1 plants too come back, l miss them, especially Cattail. Bring her back Pop Cap!!!!
Tbh Doom-Shroom is one of the only plants that DESERVE to come back, like I can imagine it being a blast in arena.

Well, Ice-shroom function will be changed completely, so I'm olay with that. But Pop Cap bringing back Scaredy-shroom........ WHY?!?!
I agree with several points you made, like the high similarity between Gloom-shroom and Phat Beet (and oh hey, Phat Beet does not get hypnotized by the ballad) or how Scaredy wasn't released in Dark Ages. Even if he would have been added at that time, a rework on resistance boost when hiding would not make a big difference, but well, at least, yeah.
About Sea-shroom, his ability is currently unknown. I'd leave it blank, and I think you should.
Though, the rest in the international version, such as Ice-shroom, or (Mega) Gatling Pea.
Did you notice the difference between Gatling Pea from the rest of his elder brothers and sister? He has a random chance to have the plant food effect. I don't know how appealing it sounds to you, but having a little surprise like this is sweet, especially for those who use him with Pea Vine and Torchwood during Arena when the Appease family does not get bruised *cough cough*.
Ice-Shroom, have you checked over the upcoming content page? "Smashes zombies in melee range. Emits a chilling aura that both buffs nearby Winter-mint plants and chills zombies." Have you noticed how he functions differently from Iceberg Lettuce and Ice Bloom?
P/S: Thanks for expressing your opinion. I like hearing it as watching through your video, but one thing, try to have a more balanced view. At least mentioning some efforts the developers make, rather than hiding them.

modern popcap isn't popcap, it's a team made by ea to "work" on a game they don't feel anything about. The original team was fired by ea because of being against microtransactions
Ice shrooms abilities are completely different, did you not do any research or did you just assume what you think makes sense? Ice Shroom recieved an extremely heavy rework, smashing zombies in melee range, emitting a chilling aura AND boosts winter mint plants. And for sea Shroom, the new grid item known as "puddles" is probably what will come with sea Shroom and make sense if we can plant on it. So please do your research.

The thing about Scaredy-Shroom is that they DID have a good rework on it before. It's from the Garden Warfare games! That Scaredy-Shroom also hid when zombies are near but the point of it was that it was a high-damage, long range shooter (basically a sniper that cowers in fear when enemies are near)
They could've easily implemented that in this game! Have Scaredy-Shroom's projectile do high damage, it takes long to fire between shots, the projectile travels down the path quick, and still hides as zombies come near

Scaredy Shroom with Cactus could be great if when he hides, he's more tanky, thus they act like a wallnut and the greenish spiky plant

PVZ2C does kinda of a better job with the returning plants, Because At least There They have an actual Purpose, They fit at any Point Of the Game because of the Elevated Difficulty of this version because of the Leveled up zombies and exclusive worlds, zombies and events
While in pvz 2 International They Barely Work because at the point you unlock one of those returning Plants of international like Mega Gatling Pea or Scadery shroom You'll probably gonna Have the Adventure mode completed already, and yeah... Penny's pursuit and Arena aren't Fun game modes at all
Coming back to the purpose thing you have things like plantern in PVZ2C vs Scadery Shroom in PVZ 2 International
Even if Plantern is an World unlockable plant it still does His unique job for the moment to play, Wich is To reveal the Bandit Zombies while they are invisible, Because otherwise Youll be fucked and There will be no other way to end them... at least of course you bringed a plant like chilli bean
Scadery Shroom on the other Hand takes Time to be unlocked, His Hiding Mechanic is Kinda Shitty knowing That In Pvz 2 There are even more ways for the zombies to reach quicker the plants from behind (Because there is not only the Imps now, There is also things like parachute zombies, Breakdance zombies, Snow storm and Sandstorm, Imp Cannons when they Do their Time out explosion, Parrot Zombies, Bull rider and Rodeo Legend Zombie, Gold Digger zombie, Superfan Imp when is Kicked by an All Star, Zombies that are Taken to your plants from behind By Dinosaurs, Fliying zombies like Balloon and Jetpack and a long etc)
And about his price... Thats Just Stupid, I mean.. literally this Game has Plant food, And if you do the braindead combination of Sun producers + The Tile beet Thingy + plant food youll have enough sun for better alternatives, And even without that There are so many good sun producers to make quick sun Like gold Bloom and Solar Sage that Having Scadery shrooms is unneserasy
Some might say things like the zombie spawn speed and shit like that but bruh, Is vanilla Pvz 2, not Pvz 2 Shuttle of all things, The Vanilla Game gives you enough time to make a Quick Defense on time, and Total honest, Puff Shrooms Is 10 times better

Scaredy Shroom’s new design is really bad. They removed all of the creativity of his old design from the first game, only to make him look like high asf and poor made… especially with those eyes… They should’ve just kept the eyes, the mouth, and the stem from the first game. They didn’t have to give him a major redesign like that. Popcat/EA pls don’t bring back classic PVZ 1 if you’re going to ruin their designs.
None of those are significant issues, though? Repeater is just peashooter but better most of the time, same with melon-pult and pepper-pult, primal wallnut and wallnut. Having variety is not bad, the bad thing is when this variety is locked out in a dumb way (never got the idea of premium plants...). Let them be - that's my take.

My problem with them bringing back pvz1 plants is that current pvz2 have noticeable lower effort put into them.
Scaredy shroom looks horrible in comparison to puff and fume shroom.
This is pure nostalgia bait and while there are some plants that get a pass because they work somewhat fittingly in the game but some are not, scaredy shroom and iceshroom is a good example, unless they've been given somekind of buff that makes them completely not useless, I don't think there will be any benefits given to the player, considering there are so many plants that can outmatch both of these plants in terms of usefulness and adaptability, so why even add them in the first place with thesame mechanics and no changes at all to make them more fitting, the answer is already obvious, and even if they tried buffing both of the plants, I'm guessing its probably only minor buffs that doesn't change how the playstyle works, both are still going to be low-tier plants, overshadowed by other upper-tier plants in the game..
I like that they're returning PvZ 1 plants. I don't like when they make their PvZ 2 designs too different compared to their PvZ 1 designs.

it feels like this video lacks an actual explanation on why scaredy-shroom has no purpose in pvz2. the given reason for scaredy-shroom seems to simply be the fact that there is no purpose, which doesn't elaborate on anything. or perhaps the exclusion of the plant from dark ages counts as a reason, but there isn't any provable cause for why as far as i know, only rumour.
there is clearer reasoning for why ice-shroom doesn't fit, which is good. especially now with the knowledge that ice-shroom is another cold snapdragon alt to go alongside pokra, it's clear that there is a level of (perhaps unintentional) disrespect for the original plants that are being reintroduced. where cactus feels like a faithful recontextualisation, ice-shroom is an uncanny departure. ignoring the readded balloon popping, the former plant looks like the original and maintains similar spike-firing traits, while the latter plant looks like it came from a completely different game and has completely transformed its main functions.
scaredy-shroom also have issues of alien redesign, but with the opposite mechanical issue: a near complete lack of adaption to the pvz2 environment. the hiding bonus doesn't make the plant any more useful for adventure unless you feed into the leveling system, and even then the benefits are utterly unimpressive by arena standards. it's honestly the type of plant balance that would've been more expected pre-leveling. but with the way that arena plants are visually and mechanically designed, scaredy-shroom feels like the black sheep of this game, not fitting with the other veteran plants nor the arena plants.
i think this is the type of elaboration that was deserved on the topic. might mean making a longer video, but it's more meaningful than simply relying on any existing sentiment over how veteran plants are integrated.
Why don't they bring heroes plants into the game? We never saw them in a tower defense game. And plants like pineclone could be very cool additions
Thing is, your mostly basing your accusations on scaredy shroom, which is basically the only thing your right on. Yes it doesn't need to be there, but it's the only plant to do so, the rest of the returning plants have recieved good buffs, and reworks including ice Shroom and sea Shroom which you didn't look into.
I hate that pvz2 is acting like the plants are DLCs but no new content other than a random troop for 3 or more dollars
they should cost 3 dollars for all of them and 5 dollars for a new extra world and dam remake the modern day boss such a disappointment of a fight

i personally don’t mind the inclusion of PvZ1 plants to PvZ2, but i agree completely in that there’s no direction in how they’re designed for the game anymore. take Scaredy-shroom for instance. i love them, but they’re both too strong for Adventure and too weak for Arena. and when i found out that Ice-shroom was coming back, i had already gotten used to using Ice Bloom. now Ice-shroom’s gonna have some weird Winter-mint family buffing mechanic, and you lost me completely.
