Man Utd fan here, He totally down plays his own ability as a player yes he was hard as fuck and a enforcer but he was also a very creative player his passing range was unreal as was his long range shooting as well as the volleys and he dictated the play and tempo as well it actually winds me up when people gloss over his ability.
Grahame did a cracking job at Blackburn, to beat spurs in the league cup final, Grahame instilled great belief in his team, and they went out and won it.
When i first started watching Liverpool he was bossing our midfield... This guy made opponents shit themselves..Literally... Hard as a brick outhouse but with the passing range of a complete maestro and a thunderbolt of a right peg.. 5 leagues and 3 Europeans cups...Enough said.. ABSOLUTE GENERAL..YNWA
I don't give a toss, but when he was playing for Liverpool he was the best defensive mid-fielder in the game. He could do everything, he was skillful and hard as nails. End of story, how he never won the European Footballer of the year now the Bollocks de yawn once is a tribute to UEFA's snobbery.
I do agree but an even bigger travesty was the fact that Dalglish never won the European Footballer of the Year. He was only nominated once - bloody out of order !!
The interviewers are covertly hostile of him. Neither of them could do the business. He rises above them and politely engages with them. Good interview at the end of the day. The great aggressor handles an aggressive interview well.
Irish Liverpool fan here. I know Sousness has done some questionable things (that's polite), but I always enjoy listening to him and he strikes me as honest and very thoughtful. Hugely important player for Liverpool and he might not have got the awards recognition for that, but the fans were never in doubt about it.
Such a complete player, just a shame he couldn't lead Scotland to greater heights. Fair enough it's a small country, but with the players they had then it was within reach. And wish he'd been given the Scotland job in 2008, certainly couldn't have done any worse than George Burley.
He nearly killed a Romanian player with an over the top tackle in his Rangers days. It put the sneaky breaking of a Romanian jaw in his Liverpool days in the ha'penny place.
Brilliant player!!! Who else can say they played with , for and against the best of the best? Zico, Laudrup, Platini, Dr Socrates and the 82/86 brasil teams, Baresi, Passarella, Maradona etc. Now they could play and mix it up to. Not like todays fairycakes rolling around like they'd been shot by a sniper!!! Yes you Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar🙈. And he's highly intelligent and a diamond geezer!!! The kind of man who would scare the Grim Reaper away😂. Legend in any generation!!! I love how Kenny would joke with him and he would just grin and roll his eyes, so funny, like brothers from the sitcom Bread😁..Real love there for sure😎..YNWA
Get yourself back to Rangers and help Stevie out, the buzz the fans will get would be amazing , somewhere at the club there must be a place. Amazing man, gave Rangers fans their pride back, Legend
Christ, he's that hard they have to give him his own private booth to do the interview. They probably fed him raw meat. Gerrard and Souness in the middle phew what a combination.
Graeme, please give Clements a bit of advice. I don't think he understands how big a club Rangers are. Not just in Scotland but the Bears are world famous.
One of his key qualities as a player can only be described by using a uniquely Scottish word and sadly it's a quality missing in the modern Scottish player and that's GALLUS.
Souness!! In his day you had to take care of yourself ,huge part of the game,if you pull oot o a 50 50 you were fkt,end of. Absolute General. He is the person,no doubt.!!!❤😂😂
Tam Bam funny that , Dave Mackay, was hard as nails too, Souness was the Mackay of my era, The weegies like the idea they are hard, we let them have that mantle, We will be quietly hard, We have more class.
I love souness. Read his book, great read. Great player and pundit. My only gripe with him is, when england play scotland hes so anti english! Top bloke though.
A lot of respect for Souness but I truly hope he is wrong about getting football clubs getting too involved with football in Asia. I'm a romantic and money is pretty much destroying everything I love from football to music industry. Corporations/football are just getting too greedy particularly in Britain..
You're wrong...He was laughing at Franny Lee referring to him as his 'journalist friend'. He quickly then goes on to refer to himself as a 'journalist' and having 'crossed the fence'. 11:05.
Hmmmmm, I've sat on the fence about his management. His over-confidence which enabled him to be the worlds best def-mid of his era didn't always translate into on-field strategy and tactics. Nevertheless, he still won quite a few things as a manager. Moreover, he did bring in a lot of new training and diet-related stuff now common in British clubs. I think the consensus is he "could" have been a good manager.
@@coachhbosoccer Bale is a once in a generation player for a country with the population size of a Wales or Scotland. It's not like Wales regularly churn out this sort of quality, just like Scotland don't either, so Bale shouldn't be used as some sort of barometer for the norm. He's a freak, in a good way.
Absolutely love this guy. Just a plain speaking Scotsman shooting from the hip and saying it as he sees it... And one helluva player in his day!

I am a rangers fan and I loved souness when he was there, and any club would have wanted him at their club, celtic included.
Ed Cheers mate, I'm a big gers fan.fair point.WATP.
Disagree, a clogger and his name ryhmes with PENIS. More the type of player who would play for Ragers v1.0 and v2.0
Geez peace he was a thug and no one wanted him near Celtic ffs...Stupid Harry Dunn
As a player... manager hell no
For me the greatest Liverpool midfield general ever
LOL!

I agree completely with you. Funny, Keegan won it twice when he moved to Hamburg. FFS, he never had a shit show at Liverpool. Pisses me off.
Two reasons, defensive players get less glamour, and he was Scottish, even though Dalglish was recognized.
Renoir with a razor blade.
@@philipritson8821 great quote
In those days it was a physical game, and Souness was a great passer and leadership

Was a really good interview. Im going to buy the book.
Graeme Souness Is A Rangers Liverpool And Scotland Legend, I Love This Man,
Im not a rangers or liverpool fan, but souness along with bryan robson was the best midfielder of his generation, brilliant player.
Kennedy, souness, McDermott, case, imagine facing that midfield . No pressure.
Living legend.
The master
In his own head and at the Kop. Everyone else thinks he's an old twat with a Man United hang-up.
yes he could tackle and win the ball, but he was a terrific passer of the ball and scored goals.

What questionable things
Annoys me when people talk about his aggression. Was the best midfielder in europe for two or three years.

A VERY underrated player in his day.
And very over-rated as a pundit now.
@13:29 that tackle Colin Paterson is talking about was versus Steaua Bucharest not Aberdeen. Journalist can't get basic fact right.

how can you introduce Souness without mentioning he managed Glasgow Rangers?
edit: great interview non the less
Celtic fan here well said about todays players showing the men & woman whos pays to watch them bit more respect
Sells himself short . Helluva player.
Equally as competent creating as destroying .
Probably had the most unnerving Paddington Bear staire
The worst tackle the interviewer refers to wasn't against Aberdeen but rather Steaua Bucharest.
I presume that was the lad he nearly killed. The worst 'tackle' I've ever seen.

I would have Souness and McDermott in the middle with Gerard on the right and Barnes on the left.
Botany 500 gerrard in his prime for Liverpool plays where he wants
