The characters have such little personality from the first person perspective that I genuinely couldn't tell you what character someone was playing at any given time without knowing what their weapon looks like. In Overwatch, even the way a character like Tracer reloads her gun showcases her personality. She spins them around, but a character like Road Hog just slams some random junk into the back of his gun to reload it, and you can see the weight and heaviness of his actions as he reloads. Just from the way they reload you know what these characters are like. Tracer is bouncy and flippant when she fights whereas Road Hog is powerful and messy when he fights.
I like how the characters move their arms 3x faster but only move 0.5x faster. You're basically just running to see the animation otherwise there's almost zero benefit
It's kinda like what the devs did in the first mass effect. When you sprint on the citadel all it did was zoom in super close and add some speed effects but you were actually moving at the same speed as not sprinting
@@catnip202xch. There's a game called Mass Effect. There's also a area called "the citadel" in it If you try to sprint in that area the camera zooms in on our character and adds in "zoom" lines to make it look like you're going faster. But you're moving as fast as you would normally

Even with all the terrible press this game has been getting, if it was free to play I almost definitely would have downloaded it to try it out. The fact that the entry fee to find out that the controls feel just as bad as they look is $40 makes this game about as appealing as catching the black plague.

My thing with Lennox is that he looks like the designer wanted to originally go for a lizard or reptilian alien, but some suit smacked that idea away because they thought it wouldn't be "relatable" enough, so they went with a basic human spray printed swamp green and stuck spikes on his arms like some kind of hyper psoriasis.
Nah I am sure the "motion capture" studio did not have an Alien Lizard with bend legs to animate for them. That's why they changed it to a simple human with paint.
Plus they picked a face that just oozes "guy outside the gas station who will shout at your girlfriend because you didn't have a smoke to give him" vibes, total skeet energy.

I heard a theory that this game was going to have a highly stylized 1960s space comic book artstyle. I can picture these character designs working better in that style. But they have to show off their weekly cutscenes in fidelity the human mind can't comprehend, so the style was changed to generic realism and nothing translated.
That makes too much sense to not be true. I can so imagine some executive telling them to make it more realistic when it was too late into development to start from scratch.

You know, realizing that Concord was in development for eight years makes sense about so much of the theme. They would have been coming in the midst of Overwatch's hype, and super-hero snark being super popular. After eight years of that stuff non-stop though, people obviously got tired af with it, but I'm sure they just had no way to backpedal.
Well they were an independent studio made up of leads from CoD, Halo etc. the game was started around 2016. They weren't acquired by Sony until mid-late 2023. Sony has a history of actually building up studios with talent, so its entirely possible they were impressed with the talent and just decided to publish Concord because they acquired the studio and it was finished
Not gonna lie, "Vocal Cartogtapher" is pretty clever given that former Bungie Staff worked on this and "Silent Cartographer" is one better known missions in the original Halo.

Actually did play Battleborn when it was around, was rather fun to play as I had no interest in Overwatch. Although you are right, Overwatch did body it. At least Battleborn tried to be something different and have a PvE mode as well, cant say the same for Concord.

It was designed by people with no imagination. Who were just copying surface level things from different IPs instead of brainstorming cool designs. Of course, one thing these people always forget is THE GOLDEN RATIO. Symmetry is a big part of design and how something is more pleasing to look at if it's symmetrical. Asymmetry tends to turn people off. That said, their marketing sucked big fat hairy ones. "Muh diversity " is not a selling point. The wider market doesn't know the Woke/Anti-Woke internet crap, regardless of how much Wokies pretend it's mainstream. It doesn't resonate with anyone. Tack on that the people that this was supposed to appeal to don't even play video games. The only people playing it are content creators like kev.
These designs remind me of videos I've seen of games with character creation where streamers go out of their way to make deliberately bad and gonky looking characters for laughs. How could the studio look at these and say, "I can make a character focused Hero Shooter out of this" with a straight face?

The humor in this video stems from the fact that King Bach would like to eat ice cream but his friend retorts at him, saying he can only have a spoon full, nothing more. Bach then suddenly changes his expression and body language and reveals that he is indeed in possession of a spoon. And not just any spoon, it is a massive stainless steel spoon. This is funny because you would never expect someone to just be casually in possession of a massive spoon to eat ice cream with. It is completely unorthodox and uncalled for. This is why the video is so humorous and was put on the 2012 Epic Vine compilation playlist on RUclips.
What's hilarious is the original APB was one of the biggest video game flops of all time, adjusting for inflation would have cost 140-150M today to make and yet the Reloaded version of the game today right now on steam has more players than Concord.
Can I just point out how the minigun reload at 22:28 makes no fucking sense? the hero knocks the...barrel off and puts a fresh barrel on and that somehow reloads the gun???
It would have been cool if that was the animation to switch out the barrels if they overheat like real machine guns... But yeah it makes no sense how it reloads the gun by switching the barrels.

Well they were an independent studio made up of leads from CoD, Halo etc. the game was started around 2016. They weren't acquired by Sony until mid-late 2023. Sony has a history of actually building up studios with talent, so its entirely possible they were impressed with the talent and just decided to publish Concord because they acquired the studio and it was finished
"CUSTODIANS OF THE GAS STATION" sounds like something I'd watch in theatres considering the marvel junk recently (not dp vs wv ofcourse)
Not gonna lie, "Vocal Cartogtapher" is pretty clever given that former Bungie Staff worked on this and "Silent Cartographer" is one better known missions in the original Halo.

I like how you mention battleborn and it did get bodied by Overwatch but it makes it even more pathetic that Concord had less than 6 percent of peak players than Battleborn did.
Actually did play Battleborn when it was around, was rather fun to play as I had no interest in Overwatch. Although you are right, Overwatch did body it. At least Battleborn tried to be something different and have a PvE mode as well, cant say the same for Concord.

Battleborne was nothing like Overwatch. it was a SP story driven game with online coop and like 10,000 other games did have an online MP component. What hurt Battleborn was the fact that even playing the SP you had to always be online. Not sure why they thought it was a good idea to have forced online for a SP/Coop campaign

For me, its a big win for PS5 single players fan. Imagine this game being successful, this would mean less excellent single player content on PS5 and then ported to PC..

Especially with the success of wukong. There are too many publishers wanting to push out a live service cash cow and failing on it. Maybe it’s a signal that there’s enough interest for good singleplayer experiences.

A big reason Overwatch got big was Rule 34, something Concord doesn’t have
It was designed by people with no imagination. Who were just copying surface level things from different IPs instead of brainstorming cool designs. Of course, one thing these people always forget is THE GOLDEN RATIO. Symmetry is a big part of design and how something is more pleasing to look at if it's symmetrical. Asymmetry tends to turn people off.
That said, their marketing sucked big fat hairy ones. "Muh diversity " is not a selling point. The wider market doesn't know the Woke/Anti-Woke internet crap, regardless of how much Wokies pretend it's mainstream. It doesn't resonate with anyone. Tack on that the people that this was supposed to appeal to don't even play video games. The only people playing it are content creators like kev.
These designs remind me of videos I've seen of games with character creation where streamers go out of their way to make deliberately bad and gonky looking characters for laughs. How could the studio look at these and say, "I can make a character focused Hero Shooter out of this" with a straight face?

The humor in this video stems from the fact that King Bach would like to eat ice cream but his friend retorts at him, saying he can only have a spoon full, nothing more. Bach then suddenly changes his expression and body language and reveals that he is indeed in possession of a spoon. And not just any spoon, it is a massive stainless steel spoon. This is funny because you would never expect someone to just be casually in possession of a massive spoon to eat ice cream with. It is completely unorthodox and uncalled for. This is why the video is so humorous and was put on the 2012 Epic Vine compilation playlist on RUclips.
What's hilarious is the original APB was one of the biggest video game flops of all time, adjusting for inflation would have cost 140-150M today to make and yet the Reloaded version of the game today right now on steam has more players than Concord.

Can I just point out how the minigun reload at 22:28 makes no fucking sense? the hero knocks the...barrel off and puts a fresh barrel on and that somehow reloads the gun???
Yea that's like having an empty mag on a gun but instead of replacing the mag you replace the gun on the same mag
It would have been cool if that was the animation to switch out the barrels if they overheat like real machine guns... But yeah it makes no sense how it reloads the gun by switching the barrels.
