This is a great interpretation of Derren's show. I spent 6 years behind the scenes as one of his social psychologists and the research and round tabling we would do was pretty epic. The psychological story writing was super fun and emotional. It would be a cool special to go through the actual history and research of the shows as there is backstories that are insane that never made it to the storyline... for good reason.

I think he bet £5 chips several times until he got a near miss, he then showed the prerecorded clip claiming it was live and the chip was worth £5,000. I don't think Derren would want to be accused of scamming a casino.
Part of why Derren is so successful is that noone who's worked with him has ever exposed his secrets.

I remember this special. The fact the he only “barely” failed, only being one number over adds to the feeling that he could have gotten it. It really t think it was a brilliant idea to end this special like this.

I never quite forgave Derren for violating the audience contact with the method for his lottery "prediction". An extraordinarily talented performer, for sure, but mo layperson would fail to be disappointed by how it was actually done.

I think he just wanted something to justify a show about casinos and gambling. And I think he just did the most logical thing. Guessing the number that comes out of a roulette is not even magical because you just can't repeat it at will whenever you want. Also, if he would have guessed it, the casino would be suspected

Cavan you’ve done it again. What an absolutely fantastic video, from the intro which had me hooked, to the smooth delivery of the narration, with all the B roll on top, it was absolutely class.
Interestingly enough, my mate, Danny was on the Heist. I found that out as we did a snowboard instructor class together many years ago in New Zealand, we’ve become close friends ever since, but he did confirm without doubt he was definitely not a stooge and he was fully convinced to commit the armed robbery.
More of these style vids! They’re awesome

Thank you so much dude! Means a lot 🙏 and that is so awesome about your friend!
My favourite anecdote about Derren not using stooges is when he entered a magic competition and was snubbed of a win because the judges felt sure he'd used stooges. A year later, same competition: he did the same act but used the judges themselves and came first 😂

It was pre-recorded (deliberate failure in this case) nonsense like his horse gambling one.

When I had had watched that episode... My conclusion was that he had a moral dilemma and finally concluded that it was incorrect to glorify gambling in this way.
Many spectators were aware that there was a set-up of sort... But not the majority of them. And concluding that Darren Brown did tend to use his platform rather often to "educate" that majority: I find it more plausible that he basically found no good in winning the casinos any more recognition then they already had.
At least this is my view in compare to him basically wanting good TV as your assessment.

He should of played sections. I watched it live back then. Was good tho.. not fake..
Also I think he got it wrong just so he could be allowed to play in casinos again 😂😂
I just watched the rest of this video and it totally makes sense what ur saying because everyone remembers mistakes and not the good things that ppl do.. very clever guy. Good stuff mate👍

I feel "failing" at an effect, illusion, or stunt reminds the audience that we are still human. We make mistakes too. I enjoy your psychological approach to this topic. In my opinion so many magicians are technical centric, learning so many moves but this psychological side is the side I enjoy. I find sometimes magicians learn to inevitably become complacent and performance just becomes movements on autopilot rather than creating moments for spectators. Also people will be centric on a flaw. If you play basketball and make a basket 9/10 games, everyone will criticize the one you missed. At the end of the day they are still talking about you and it draws them in more.

Is it fair to assume that he could've chosen not to air this, or to try again before airing it? I'd assume if we actually saw it, he meant it to be seen.
