The way that Andrew stopped singing at the end of Carry the Flame because the Grandson dies and Brittney keeps singing KILLED me when I realized what was going on T-T
@@lightdrgn20 First of all, I was being humorous. Secondly, Brittney has mentioned that the hook of "Afterlife" was written before "Waking Dream." That it was a conscious effort to incorporate the ending melody into the beginning. I'm well aware of what the term reprise means, but thank you. ;)

Please do more duets, or at least have Andrew sing more parts in future songs. His deeper tone adds so much more dynamic to the tracks that feature him. Also, I feel like people are sleeping on Carry the Flame. It's such a good song, one of my favorites off the album.
For real, Carry the Flame hits me so right. It’s practically a perfect song for my tastes. And Andrew has such an awesome voice. It’s like they have this great tool in their bag and they so rarely use it. Not a criticism; just how talented does a band have to be to have those vocals and not need them? Wow.
I put Abyss on for a long drive, and when The Wind That Shapes The Land came on, I needed to pull over and just take it all in, and it was good that I did because I almost lost it during Carry The Flame and Afterlife. This album is dangerously good. It moved me in ways I did not expect.
Wow. Got chills, goosebumps and the biggest smile throughout this whole video. Ever since I first heard the album 3 weeks ago, I´ve spent pretty much every minute with these songs and story, getting so invested in them emotionally and physically that by now, when watching these track by track videos, It feels like I`m right there in the narrative, side by side with the Immortal, through this absolutely epic journey. And finally getting to experience true freedom and victory from bondage, slavery and darkness together with him, just fantastic. An absolutely amazing and epic story Brittney!! Thank you so much for just a great walktrough, really love these. And to be told through such masterfully crafted, incredible metal music. You guys are SOOO gifted. AAAAAAAAHHHHH. Thank God for you guys. Straight up blown away!! /with love from Sweden
Been listening to these albums for what seems like forever now, and only JUST discovered these Track by Track videos! Now I gotta go watch lyric videos for every song, as I feel like I've missed SO MUCH of the story, now knowing it from your explanations. I've always admired people who have such creative visions that they can make such in-depth stories and convey them either in books or songs. This is an amazing concept, and I love these albums. Such a great back to back listen. Can't wait to see you at ProgPower next year! 🤘🏻
I cannot wait for the next time I can go on a road trip. Endless hours of car karaoke to both albums, cruising on up the coast with the windows down and the volume cranked! And count me as a +1 in favor of either a prequel about the Immortal's origins or another sequel about his adventurers after the events of Abyss. I mean, back in "Through Stars" the line about knowing nothing of life beyond the blade kinda comes off to me like he's really not terribly pleased with this fact and would maybe like to broaden his experiences and knowledge. Now that he's free to chart his own course, he's got room for some hobbies!
Next album needs to be a prequel album. "How the Immortal became cursed" The title... .... Plateau.. Geddit? Cause its between Apex and Abyss??? Geddit?
Interesting as that would be I think it’s best they end Immortal’s story here. The next album should be a new chapter for the band not one where they continue adding to a story they’ve already told.
After listening to the Abyss album on a near daily basis since it came out and now finishing the track by tracks, I have this deep feeling of relationship with the characters - the Immortal and the grandson. I've really only ever experienced this with epic novels like the Lord of the Rings, The Wheel of Time, Mistborn, etc. I feel like I'm saying goodbye to a friend at the end, but that I can always visit them in their world when I miss them. Bravo and excellent writing!
Finally! Album is a masterpiece! Thanks for doing these. Been a lot fun. Any chance at a prequel? Who cursed the immortal??? And why? And how powerful were they? How old is the immortal?? Lol
Abyss is an amazing record and a perfect follow up to Apex which I absolutely love. As far as theories go I do have one and it involves the story that is fleshed out in the earbook. So during the event of "Carry The Flame", the Grandson tells The Immortal that he had a surprise for him after their victory: a book he had found and one that he thinks The Immortal will find interesting. The Immortal then spends a few days looking for the book among the ruins of their ship, traveling to the Matriarch's ship and learning how to pilot it. Flying through space, he now decides to look at the book the Grandson found. It has no writing on the cover or spine so he opens it to the first page and reads the title: "The Coming Of The Immortals", and this is what is written on the next page: "They came in three ships. Not of this world, and larger than any edifice of our creation. They spoke an unknown tongue and were few in number. They were magnificently tall and strong of form. For centuries we had studied the stars and speculated as to what awaited us there, what knowledge lay just beyond our reach, and these beings promised us answers. They promised agricultural advancement and architectural innovation. They promised us technology that would lessen our struggles and save us from unnecessary burden. They promised lives free from the threat of starvation and said we would never want for anything ever again. They promised us peace. They lied." My theory is that this race of Immortals began to take over and enslave humanity, leading humans to wage an ill fated war. In their desperation they came to the conclusion that the only thing that could kill an Immortal is an Immortal. Brittney mentions in the first track by track video for Apex that The Immortal was cursed at a young age so that would mean that he was kidnapped, cursed, and sent out to massacre his own kind. Once the Immortal race is wiped out, instead of being united, the people of Earth start warring with each other. In Abyss, The Immortal points out that he is the weapon of countless empires, so whoever calls him ultimately comes out on top. This also leads to the struggle over the book that contains the incantation that summons him as The Immortal is essentially the decider of wars. This theory also brings me to "Afterlife" and the harsh vocals that serve as his subconscious. I feel that those lines in the song could be a representation of his origins. If his bloodline were made up of conquerors then perhaps those thoughts were more of a natural tendency. I do find it interesting though how Brittney leaves that ambiguity in her explanation. Afterlife has such an uplifting energy to it that I always felt that The Immortal had found his peace by the end of the song, but now it seems that may be up to interpretation especially if this is the final story that features him. But I could always be wrong as my assumptions about what happened after Apex were way off.
Brittney, Scott, Andrew, Grant... you are all geniuses. Thank you for The . Best . Album of 2020! You should consider taking Apex and Abyss and making a rock opera of the 20 tracks! The prevalent smirk when announcing the album still shows just how proud you are of the music Unleash the Archers have created together. The love behind these tracks does not go unnoticed :)
So the Immortal's story is such a killer concept. I hope the next album is a continuation to make it a trilogy. Love the new album. It's been on repeat since release. Bravo, Brittany & Co,
Thank you for this. Hearing a creator describe their work is so insightful, and gives the enjoyment of the work a deeper meaning. If I could humbly suggest the most logical course for the immortal: He should discover that life is actually more of shades of grey, and he was just living on the extreme edge of that spectrum. That following the 'light' is not always clear, nor easier.
Absolutely loved this story from Apex to this most recent chapter and hope it continues for many albums to come. I got George Lucas on speed dial!! Love you all and wish you all the best and hope to see you in Ontario again soon! xoxo
Headcanon: The Immortal tries repeatedly to better the world, often making things worse in the process, until he learns to lead by guiding instead of forcing. Eventually, as warlords fill the power vacuum left by the matriarch, he finds a man with an ancient magical sword and a past much like his own, and guides him to make the right choice- Demons of the Astrowaste, Outlander.
I am genuinely bumped out that Andrew is the singer on Carry the Flame, because I thought I had found me a new band with super nice vocals. Andrew truly was amazing on that song, absolutely loved it.
Great work! I really liked these episodes, thank you :) What an inspiring story written with fantasy and played with passion. Of course the Immortal is going to head to defeat the Wild Hunt and save Ciri. For sure... I mean, why not?
I headd Most of what you, I was just too captivated lol. "Firm within my grasp I hold the spark and shatter it" literal chills, even just typing it. Aldo the first scream in soul bound, good god, amazing
Better than Game Of Thrones!! UTA you are AMAZING!!! "Carry the Flame" is one of my personal prefered songs of all time!!! MAGNIFICENT duet! Amazing voices and harmonies!!! FLAWLESS guitar solo and EPIC drumming!
In the Apex track by track I saw a shelf full of books now there is another shelf with books so here is a book series for you Brittney if you haven't read it already ofcourse, if you have the time you should read The Wheel Of Time
In Magic the Gathering, the characters known as Planeswalkers have a spark that allows them to travel between dimensions, and the only way to actually kill them is to either steal or destroy their spark. I had thought of the line "I hold the spark and shatter it" as kind of like that, or like the fight against Seath the Scaleless in Dark Souls, where he draws his immortality from a crystal that you need to break before he can be harmed.
Awesome! Since this album released, I've had it on 100% rotation while driving to and from work. However, I feel like the reflection in her glasses is that of Korn "Korn" album cover, ha. If so, more respect!!
I totally thought of transformers when hearing the spark line! Although I prefer to think of it as the Immortal ripping the Matriarch's heart out and crushing it before her very eyes while he chokes her in midair with the other arm
If you ever do more with the narrative a prequel showing who the immortal was and why he was cursed would be cool. That or a sequel that uses something like the idea of demons of the astrowaste, some epic space war that he is involved with. Thanks for doing these track by track videos.
I gots a question! In the 'Till the Stars Collide' battle artwork it shows soldiers clearly fighting for both sides. No doubt the Matriarch has countless minions, but I'm curious if the Grandson had like a group of rebel fighters with him, and if so were they involved in the final battle? 2nd far more important question: Who would win in a fight between the Matriarch and Gloryhammer's Zargothrax??? PS: Carry the Flame is no joke one of the most powerful songs I have ever heard.
The way that Andrew stopped singing at the end of Carry the Flame because the Grandson dies and Brittney keeps singing KILLED me when I realized what was going on T-T

They promised agricultural advancement and architectural innovation. They promised us technology that would lessen our struggles and save us from unnecessary burden. They promised lives free from the threat of starvation and said we would never want for anything ever again. They promised us peace.
They lied."
My theory is that this race of Immortals began to take over and enslave humanity, leading humans to wage an ill fated war.

Thank You for the "tract by track" Brittney !!!! This Album is truly Epic !
This is EVERYTHING I WANT FROM A CONCEPT ALBUM(S)!!
UTA FOREVER!!
The ending: "I'm yelling at my cat!"
Afterlife is so beautiful... i don’t know how y’all manage make your last tracks such tear inducers.
Thank you taking the time to fully explain the story.
Looking foward to the immortals tales of vengeance and redemption.
Having the same vocals play the son/grandson was a super neat touch on Carry the Flame. Such a good album. Thanks for bringing so many happy to my earholes!
Brittany, you're absolutely awesome and I am completely 100% turning this whole story arc into a D&D campaign
You guys need to write like a book or a comic book or something, like this story as a whole is seriously cool! 🤘
APEX/ABYSS IMMORTAL GRAPHIC NOVEL!!!!!
Bravo, Brittany & Co,
This saga has quickly become my two favorite records of all time. I can't just listen to one track, have to go through the whole story everytime. 🥰🤘
I am curious about The Immortal's past, like how did The Immortal come to be? Whats his origin story? What's the story pre Apex?
WE DEMAND ANSWERS.
Actually we don't demand. Humble request? In exchange for this duck?🦆
@@danielvangool1461 we come bearing these ducks, we just want to know🦆
if you bought the Earbook, they drop major hints there. They're going back to tell his story.

This all Saga will be an amazing movie, great story
It's funny I heard the line about the "spark and shatter it" and thought of a phylactery for a litch.
We really are all a bunch of nerds around here.
Album of the year! If there ends up being a part 3 of the story of the Immortal, I won't complain!
Y'll are Amazing. Love the Album(s) so angry I miss Y'll in Cleveland, Covid cancelled the concert day of. Hope Y'll come back.
A timeline of UtA track-by-tracks:
Apex: playing with cat
Abyss: arguing with cat
Immortal: becomes cat
Absolutely loved this story from Apex to this most recent chapter and hope it continues for many albums to come. I got George Lucas on speed dial!!
Love you all and wish you all the best and hope to see you in Ontario again soon! xoxo
I am a buddhist practicing nichiren buddhism my fav song is the wind that shapes the land, i so love unleash the archers ❤❤❤❤❤
Love the blooper ending. "This is unacceptable." Brittany you know damn well cats don't give a SHIT what is acceptable:)
Y'all would absolutely CRUSH scoring movies. Or games!
I am genuinely bumped out that Andrew is the singer on Carry the Flame, because I thought I had found me a new band with super nice vocals. Andrew truly was amazing on that song, absolutely loved it.
Great work! I really liked these episodes, thank you :)
What an inspiring story written with fantasy and played with passion.
Love seeing the Helion Prime shirt! Was super excited to see you both in Vancouver before Hyperspace got postponed :(
In the Apex track by track I saw a shelf full of books now there is another shelf with books so here is a book series for you Brittney if you haven't read it already ofcourse, if you have the time you should read The Wheel Of Time
unleash the archers their music is amazing \m/
Oh, my! That’s just like when I make my videos. “Cat! Why do you come in meowing every time I push the record button?!”
It's fantastic!
I'm glad I caught your bandmates shredding on LoudWire!
This would be a great graphic novel.
Thank you!
Very cool stuff - nice official video too
In Magic the Gathering, the characters known as Planeswalkers have a spark that allows them to travel between dimensions, and the only way to actually kill them is to either steal or destroy their spark. I had thought of the line "I hold the spark and shatter it" as kind of like that, or like the fight against Seath the Scaleless in Dark Souls, where he draws his immortality from a crystal that you need to break before he can be harmed.
It's always a crystal, lol.
Awesome! Since this album released, I've had it on 100% rotation while driving to and from work. However, I feel like the reflection in her glasses is that of Korn "Korn" album cover, ha. If so, more respect!!
Is this the last we might ever hear about The Immortal? Also Wind that Shapes the Land is musical perfection!
Saludos desde Argentina a escucharlos
I totally thought of transformers when hearing the spark line! Although I prefer to think of it as the Immortal ripping the Matriarch's heart out and crushing it before her very eyes while he chokes her in midair with the other arm
I can visualize him looking out at the stars, and saying at the end where he decides to go.....
'Going to the third star on the left.....'
I really enjoyed the musical bookending done in tracks 1 and 10! I think that’s a hint the Immortal will choose the righteous path!
The Wind That Shapes the Land is the greatest UTA song yet \m/
Wonderful album. 10/10 would break curse and choose the light again.
If you ever do more with the narrative a prequel showing who the immortal was and why he was cursed would be cool. That or a sequel that uses something like the idea of demons of the astrowaste, some epic space war that he is involved with.
Thanks for doing these track by track videos.
Through Stars is amazing AF!!! UTA \m/
Easily the Matriarch, it took an immortal demi-god's full personal awakening to kill her, whereas Zargothrax lost to some dude with a Hammer. :P
Actually in the third album Zargy is only defeated when the Hootsman shows up after having become a god himself.
