For the top, adding a "spine" on it will help. That should bend 1/8" steel to 90° easy. I'd guess you'd need 2 20 ton jacks. Also, have an update video on this?
Really nice size brake. I want to weld up a brake but I'm not sure how wide to make it. I don't have much space so getting the size right is pretty important.
You’ve gotta worry more about deflecting the bottom beam, also don’t know if you have a crown on the bottom plate, all brakes have crowns for deflection.
@@donsmith9081 I think I would just buy a 4 or 8 ton bottle jack and rig it up too the middle of the bed, a lot of brakes I’ve operated had hydraulic cylinders, longer brakes had 2, all you’d have to do is put 1 jack in the Center, and use it when you’re doing heavier material. I wouldn’t worry about a crown on such a small brake, use the bottle jack.
@@donsmith9081 thank you, I’ve ran anywhere from 80 ton to 750 ton brakes and presses for many years, you’re getting fairly thick for a machine like that. Is it manually powered or powered? You should maybe look for some old dies made for a bigger brake, if you can find one area of a 18’ or whatever die your length that is in good shape you can always cut it down, there’s lotsa damaged dies with good pieces. And also do you know the 7:1 rule in braking? What kinda radius are you looking for.? You should be looking for about a 2” bottom.
Looks great. But to answer your questionif the top 6x4 beam will bend, it will. I built a brake almost identical to yours about ten years ago. Worked fine on 14 gage material but bent the top on a piece of 10 gage by about 40 I inches long . Weld the truss assembly on top before you try anything real heavy. Great job though!
Hey, I just stumbled onto your videos because I was thinking about building a boat like you are, and really liked your work. I am sorry to hear about your injury and hope your healing process if going well. So you can continue to do what you love.
im a boat builder too. pretty much the same as you ive built 4 hulls from scratch without a brake. i love yours. where did you get the finger dies for this build? it would be awesome to have something like this that doesnt take up much space but can brake .125 5052 for furniture and lids.
Instead of just using Midway as a quote source you could give them your business since your supplier was giving it to you! "Discount" seams like they've earned losing some business.
Sweet build! Been wanting to build one for a while now. Getting tired of clamping my plates to a piece of W24 I-beam and hammering the angles I need. Where did you get the top dies from?
Where did you get the finger press brake part with the dies? Hope the injury is healing well. I want to see more of your big boat! Awesome work. Looking forward to more videos in the future of how you're doing hatches, etc.
@@TheJessehart05 Thanks for the response Jesse . I apologize because right after I sent you that message I read through another comment where you answered that detail . My bad ! That's a nice brake . That brake press is killer. I love that design.
Great job
I don't see any other videos on this? Just the demo. Really interested in building this.
you mention a online calculator, have a link ?

Using two 12 ton bottle jacks

Alex Grulkowski . Thanks. so far I get along with very minor issues.
Not a problem, and I also thought it was pretty cool that you live in the cities, I am a few hours away in Wisconsin.
Like your shop! Where did you get the fingers for your break witch looks awesome.
I machined them on my mill. Made a jig that held at 60 degrees and machined both sides
how is your arm doing? you should make an update video on the boat and your arm

I'm going to Midway and sending my friends there too.
Nice work!
Wow that’s a cool monster 👍
Amazing job! Better than the crap they sell in stores. Where did you get the bending blades? Sorry I don't know what they're called.

How did the press do?
Any new vids of the press working or done

how did the bends turn out? anything you would change?
Bends turned out awesome. I wish it was bigger and I'm going to make an adjustable back stop.

Rocky Blankenship something so you could slide a piece of metal in and it would stop so you could have repeatable bends without measuring

Rocky Blankenship don’t over do it. Keep it simple. Make two different dies if you need to. Good luck with your build.
Plans for this?
Nicholas Kin . Sorry it's from scratch. 4x6x3/16 box tube.
TheJessehart05 no prob, u think this would hold up to 40 ton jacks?
