    Excellent video clearly explained in two minutes. It is very important to emphasize that the benefits of translaguaging also impact the emotional development of students. Thank you!

    Great. I liked its four benefits: learners' own language development, English development, content and social development. Thanks!

    Explicado perfectamnete in the case of usage of more than one L1. If I had use translanguating learning English it would have sped up my L2 learning.
    Sinceramente,
    Humberto

    Is this not about codeswitching?

    • @aliyah638
      @aliyah638 2 года назад +11

      No, codeswitching is when a multilingual person needs to fill in a knowledge-gap with a vocabulary term from another language. For example, let's say that a person speaks both English and Italian, and they were asking a friend or another person to pass them a bottle of juice. In code switching this could be "Could you please give me the _succo_?" or "Mi daresti lo _juice_?" with the idea that at that moment in time the person could think of the English word for juice while speaking English or the Italian word when speaking Italian. Translanguaging on the other hand is the idea of using multiple languages simultaneously in order to help with understanding. Like in the example given in this video, students were allowed to research historical events in their native language as long as they were able to relay their findings in English. Not only does this facilitate the students in delving deeper into both languages, it also helps them to develop a better understanding of their environment.
