The fact that Captain Flint himself narrated this was way too perfect. I was teary eyed watching this whole thing. Sea of Thieves has been a massive part of my life since it released. So much love for this game, even during the bad times in game. Much love to the devs! Happy Anniversary Sea of Thieves!

35:51 i literally jumped of my chair, because one of the most unforgettable moments in Sea of Thieves that i had and i talk about this with my friends till this day was the day that i got in a group with a guy that was blind, and he was piloting our ship, we help him out with direction but he killed it, the best pilot i ever had and was one of the best experiences i had playing a game, and that was years ago, i added him on xbox live but i never played with him again, now i'm watching this documentary, and bam, he appeared out of nowhere, he was a really cool dude that left a great impression on me, shout out to him
I love that Rare fully acknowledged the game was a flop at release and even features that as a part of their own anniversary video. Shows the passion and integrity for this project. As a day one player coming back and playing almost every day since season 8 , it's refreshing to see Devs acknowledge their failures and come back even better. 👍
Pretty cool video. I miss the old dev update / behind the scenes stuff when there was more communication between the players and studio. This was very refreshing and hope to see them make a return.
A lot of gaming developers do that early on in the games lifespan. It gets harder to do once a game gets big enough so sadly it probably won't be coming back very often

I cried and you know why? Because without knowing Owlet I was able to cross his requests and being myself a pirate of this community I wanted this comrade to be happy. Honestly knowing Rare from the start of the game, I knew he would give in eventually because this is Sea of Thieves. A passion and a lot of love from the players for this game and from this studio for its players. I cried Owlet I'm happy for you, we hope to meet one day on this sea and you'll tell me about the adventures of your owl! CHEERS!!!

Started playing during the pandemic and now it's one of my all time favorite games. Always loved Rare games but something about this one keeps me coming back. It's a truly special and unique experience.

i did not even plan to watch the whole video and ended up and hour and a half later very happy to have met the whole crew, and now I can't wait to see what's coming up next

Man this is actually going to make me cry. I can not express how many AMAZING adventures I have had and how many special memories I have made. Whether it is making brand new friends or bonding with old ones, every day brings a new story I get to tell and a new smile across my face. I have seen a lot over the years, from stunning fireworks shows and music to the tense and exhilarating naval battles. Part of what makes this game so unique is that the new memories are just as precious as the old ones. A new adventure, a raised tankard, and a promise to never stop chasing the setting sun!!!

my brother got me into this game and loved since then. even find myself just sailing around randomly doing nothing, lol
Sea of Thieves saved me in 2020. I can't count the hours I spent with my crewmate exploring the ocean. It was our escape from reality. And we were sooooo bad at PVP, but after the disappointment, we tried the next day after work because it was so refreshing.
We are still too bad in PVP and life came back to normal. But I am always thinking about returning to the sea. It's calling!!
Thank you for the love you put in this game, thanks for hours of adventure and, over all, thanks for giving us fun in one of our hardest times.

Loved Rare since the early days of my childhood. They are truly an amazing team that have created something where players could make their own stories. Rare's love for this pirate world really shows. I started playing this game at the beginning of last year, it has since become my most played game EVER, I love this game so damn much, already have so many fond memories of pirating with my friends.
What makes them truely special is they can have tremedous ideas, but they also aknowledge when they either do mistakes or do things that don't quite work. And then they use the feedback to make something brilliant.
When they told us they were gonna shut down the Arena, and then we got season 8, the studio gained my respect forever. They created a solution to fill a need and it did not quite work, they aknowledged it, they analysed the problem and used their previous work to make exactly what pvp players needed.
That is incredible work and decision making. I wish all studios were like Rare but i don't know anyone like them.
I met my fiance in this game around three years ago, very shortly after the pc release. We met in open crew on the official discord, had fun playing together, and decided to play together again. And again. And again. We lived on opposite sides of the country and a little over a year ago i made the difficult decision to uproot and move in with him. Now we are happily engaged and still play Sea of Thieves regularly. Thank you for this amazing game that gave me the ability to meet the love of my life.

Me mate had a peg leg replaces with a shovel and the KLONK - Step - Klonk- was so clean; it sounded SHOVEL'y

As someone who sails on the sea irl, even just the feel of being on a boat in sea of thieves is just as refreshing as irl, possibly even more with the adventures you can have

I don't know any other game where I found myself crying over a behind the scene. GG WP to all the team at Rare! Thank you for putting your heart and soul in this game, it really feels. Sorry to be whining about some aspects sometimes, it really is out of love. Like having private servers; I can't wait for Sea of Thieves to be a sandbox for me and my friends (20+ irl pirates) and truely have adventures of our own. I have over 1700 hours in this game and I still enjoy it and love helping newcomers discover this beautiful gem. Cheers, from the heart! // P.S.: the shrouded ghost doesn't exist. I want to speak to your manager! (hopefully season 9 changes that. Do we need to follow the fog? do we need to throw flares? I have many theories, but no results so far, in all those years...)

What i think makes Sea of Thieves so good, and puts it above so many other games that have tried and failed a live service model, is how every session always feels like it has so much unpredicatbility.
It's never just about "go online, do some quests, grind some loot", it's about going on a sever, doing a fort, and then realizing that a Galleon just caught you with your pants down.
Been playing this game for 3 years now, and every session with the boys has just felt like a new adventure.

Honestly I bought this on xbox way back when a friend of mine made me get it. This was by far the best purchase that i've bought and used for days straight. I played it a lot at the start and had a great time collecting treasures and surviving storms. Thank you
Been sailing since the open beta . Pre ordered that night and have been apart of the test servers. I have adored this game/ developers / and community since day 1 I still rock the day one eye patch and will never take it off . Thank you for being my favorite game of all time Happy birthday!! I tried many different titles but I always go back to the "Brave Vanguard" one you got for playing the beta along with the Vanguard Sails.
Sea of Thieves is a great game. Hopping on with the boys over the weekend to sail the seas is always super fun and an amazing experience! You have succeeded Rare. It will always be one of the best games of all time.

When they said they wanted to make a game that made people feel apart of the world they hit that on the head this game has pulled me from depression helped me heal after leaving an abusive relationship because nothing made me more happy than being a pirate with my friends sailing around and doing whatever we wanted

I was a day one player after being blown away with the first E3 trailer of it.
But I must say the lack of content back then made me go away.
I came back to the game arround the pirates life update.
And must say you all did an amazing job with this game. Steering it in a great direction.

I remember seeing the announcement at E3 and from that minute I was hooked. Felt like a lifetime before I could sail on the Sea of Thieves myself. One of the greatest, most ambitious games I've ever played, so many memories made and still to be made. This documentary is fantastic. Thank you RARE and everyone evolved.
This game unites so many people in such a beautiful way, which is why we are all so grateful towards rare for making a place in which friends can be made and voyages can be set upon

Been sailing since launch and can proudly say this is the 1 game that has constantly brought me back. It's so true what they say, Sea of Thieves is a COMMUNITY. No other game has brought me or my friends joy the way SoT has. I have met some of my best friends on SoT and we will continue to sail the seas. Amazing documentary, it's crazy what Sea of Thieves started out as and what it has become over the last 5 years. Seeing how it went from a bare bones basic foundation of a game and seeing how RARE worked with the community to help build it up to what it is today just shows dedication and how much RARE truly does care about the input and feedback from the community.
Though I can't help but think it would have been great to see some behind the scenes footage of Glitterbeard.
I wish I had heard sooner about this gem. Thank you for making a game that honestly got me back into gaming :) TBT I was older, losing steam, close to being done with gaming as whole, then I stumbled on SOT.. 400 hours later I still have so much to do. :) Cheers and a raised Grogg to yall and your future adventures
This game has had many significant impacts in my own personal life. My friends talked me into buying it day one and after they all bailed in the beginning, I stayed. I have been here ever since never being able to put this down for anything more than a few days. Thank you, Rare.

I also love how these folk created a pirate game the correct way with more focus on the pirate rather then the ship itself although I would like more combat customizabilty i also understand the risk of that giving a more experienced player advantages

I started playing barely a few months ago, only days before season 8 launched, and this has already become my favorite game ever, wether I'm having the best time finding loot, being sunk or just vibing catching fish i never get tired of it.
Start the game at 13th 5 years later I'm 18th, you change my life, my teenage, the game help my English and geography 💪. Thanks you Rare and I will remember all my life on this big journey. But I did not found the shrouded gost 😅.

My dad worked on big cargo liners when he was in his mid 20's. He actually had an owl for 4 years untill he released it back into the wild and stopped working on ships alltogether.
My feedback?
-More piratey stuff, less glowy items in general (keep glowy to a bare minimum so they really stand out).
-More legendary rare items, less time gated stuff.
-Less Disney lore, more SOT lore.
-More rare boss battles. F.e. rare ship NPC's to hunt.
-Make golden sands feel 'alive'.
-Add whales and other sea creatures.

I remember I was in middle school at the time when black flag came out and after playing I dreamed of a day where I could share that experience with other players in a pirate paradise. Then Sea of Thieves appeared on the horizon. I have to say there are only 2 games I've ever played non stop in my life and those are Halo Reach and Sea of Thieves. Thank you rare for giving me my dream game.

Sea of Thieves is probably in my top 5 games of all time, I've been playing since day one and honestly watching this kinda made me emotional. The devs at Rare and Xbox are so passionate and I cant express just how glad I am that they have allowed us to experience this masterpiece
I remember Sailing the Sea of Thieves, and I was streaming on RUclips, I had two of my watchers join me. They were two little kids, a little boy named Ben and his littler sister named understated mouse. She spent every moment on every island to get every resource off that island. I think I have vid of all of it but the thing was these two kids were having the time of their lives having an adult take them seriously and as part of the crew, Not Kids but Shipmates. I was able to give them that due to Rare and the Sea of Thieves.
Jack Sparrow's compass would be a great mechanic.
And having secrets that you find in different ways(through clues, a treasure map formed with parts of the map, riddles) makesnthe game special

I started playing in June 2020 and since then it has unquestionably become my favourite game of all time. I've seen other people consumed with passion by games like Super Mario, or Street Fighter or World of Warcraft and I wondered why I never felt what they felt until I understood this game, it didn't click immediately, but when it did, I fell utterly, completely in love with the world and its endless ability to generate stories and bring me together with others with the same passion. Since then, I've only fallen more under its spell. It's beautiful, charming, intriguing and best of all unpredictable.
Thank you Rare, for 2 and 3/4 years of the best gaming experience I've ever had, whatever the future brings, we shall sail together.
An absolute amazing experience seeing this game evolve, right from the start!
