  • Dollars Mocap is a company whose software is creating the opportunity for everyone to create solid motion capture -- without having to invest thousands of dollars in expensive (and oftentimes bulky) hardware.
In this video we take a look at both Dollars MONO, a face-and-body motion capture combo that requires only a single camera's video to do its captures, and Dollars MOTS -- which generates motions directly from a text prompt.
Moreover, both packages integrate directly with third-party applications, such as iClone (demo'd in this video), Unreal, Unity -- and in all cases a BVH file can be exported for more universal animation exchange.
Beyond features, both packages are extremely affordable in price...further lowering the difficulty in getting started.
John spends some time looking at both packages, their strengths, potential weaknesses...and how they might change the landscape of motion capture.
Notably, the company has even more products in its software lineup -- so do check out their website to see the different offerings!

Just curious, how is Dollar Mocap compared to Accuface for Facial expressions? There a 5x price difference between the two

Hi! I apologize for taking a bit to respond here -- I'm going to be doing so to quite a few comments!
Solely for face motion capture, I didn't notice a 'giant' difference, as in both cases you'd want to run the audio through AccuLips, which would definitely improve the quality. Otherwise (with either one) the mocap gets the overall motions, but might miss some of the detailed shapes (and for sure the tongue movements).

Hello Man! Thanks so much! I tried to connect my avatar into dollar. The plug in recognizes it but nothing moves ...neither in record nor in preview mode. everything connects properly otherwise..I am using a cc4 character I created in CC4

Thanks for the video. I'm running into a problem where I'm almost done with my first animation but I am trying to use this to go back and add some hand movements. I'm working on a section at the end and when I hit "record" it takes the avatar back to the center of the stage instead of leaving it stationary where the last motion clip ended. I don t know if this has to do with the GI Anchor as I'm using a template for the background but any advice for a noob would be helpful!

Eek, sorry...I definitely would run into issues like this at times as well, which I'm assuming were mostly me just not being sure how to 'add' instead of 'replace'. I think inside of iClone you can 'add' animation with the puppet tools or something of that sort -- I'd maybe search Reallusion's documentation a bit to see if you run into that section. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. :(

Hi! I apologize for taking a bit to respond here -- I'm going to be doing so to quite a few comments! It is indeed the $99 one...it's a pretty unbelievable value TBH. I appreciate Reallusions own plugins as well, but bang-for-buck...it's pretty amazing!

Hi! I apologize for taking a bit to respond here -- I'm going to be doing so to quite a few comments! If you are using this, it should have export options (from what I recall) for Blender & most 3D packages. I've only used it with iClone (since I have it), but I'm "pretty sure" I saw that in there somewhere. ;)

It's running very slow on my laptop (I7 48gb ram Geforce RTX 2060). Is it the computer or is there any setting or trick to make it run faster?

I think I made sure to use a video resolution of 1280x720 -- I think running the webcam higher than that had my system bogged down a bit as well. Similar things happened with AccuFace, so I don't think it's a knock on Dollars Mocap or your system (nice system btw!). Let me know if that helps!!

can you turn around and would it track that motion?

    • @JhowT
      @JhowT  2 месяца назад +1

That's a good question -- I didn't try that but I assume it would get the torso, legs, and head. Depending on where your arms are, it of course wouldn't "see" them from the camera's point of view -- so those wouldn't get tracked. If they were out at your side, though, I'm imagining they would.

This looks extremely janky and it was my experience as well that it's just jittering all over the place even though I have a high quality camera and strong PC setup
