    Once upon a time, I had a music teacher who scoffed at the clarinet saying that its sound was nothing more than a well controlled squeak!! If I could find him again I would play this video for him. That clarinet sounds delicious! Kudos also to a wonderful string quartet!

    Yes, I agree . . . True artistry all around. Let's not forget the string quartet! Very fine and tight with Sr. Rius. Bravo, quartet! Many fine quartets refuse to play this work (All clarinet fun). Second movement especially captured the true pathos of a tragic operatic scene. Thank you for the hard work putting this together gentlemen (caballeros).

    My dear god... I usually listen to Martin Frost, Sabine Meyer, Charles Neidich, etc. And I honestly don't like the clarinetists past them. Sure there are a few however I am EXTREMELY picky with the clarinetists I listen to. Even if they're famous if I think they suck I don't listen, but I listen to YOU and I'm saying to myself, "Where has he been all my life?" Truly a magnificent performance!

    I absolutely just love it. The acoustics are perfect! The tone of the clarinet is so rich & he makes it sound so smooth, like butter. OMG'oodness!!! So beautiful. This makes me want to save my money & purchase the Buffet Crampon R13 series & start playing my clarinet again. Wow! & that cello sounds awesome. The violins & viola were also nice, but that deep robust cello made me go ummmm. I performed the 4th movement in college circa 1986, & the music is still embbeded in my memory. Sweet!!!

    The emaciated, cancer stricken Brahms was brought to a chamber concert a few months before his death early in 1897. He was asked which clarinet quintet he wanted to hear, his own or the Weber. He chose the Weber. Enough said.

    Listening to this quintet now, and noticing that Weber, like Mozart before him, begins with the strings alone on a long chord, I wish to some extent that Weber had allowed the clarinet sixteenth notes sooner. It’s funny that they don’t come until the second group, because I’ve thought that fast runs were the sound that most distinguished Weber’s quintet from Mozart’s.

    • @timothythorne9464
      @timothythorne9464 2 года назад

      This is so beautiful! There are some similarities with Mozart's sublime quintet, but the first movement of Weber's is more carefree and playful, and the second movement is thoroughly romantic and operatic in its inspiration.
