I don't see what the big deal is about the weight. For me, it feels fine. This bike is actually more comfortable than the cruiser I had. Totally in love with this thing. It looks beautiful and had a lot of sexy ass lines. And dude, torque for days! This baby has a lot of pull. I couldn't be happier.
i got one and its fine only heavy when standing still.. ride it you dont feel the weight great ride
It is heavy because the frame is made of steel. The fz8's frame and the z1000 are aluminium for example. But because the center of gravity is very low, the bike doesn't feel so heavy. Actually it feels very solid and agile while riding.
Weight can work for a bike too, if it's in the correct position.
It can enhance stability, smooth out bumps in the road and help the bike to turn.
Have tested this bike here in Malaysia. Being only 5'6", I was really intimidated initially, but once it started rolling, it feels like riding a 250cc! Heavyweight? Forgotten.
Corners? So easy to turn in, it's almost telepathic. Smooth buttery gearbox that clicks instead of clacking like on other Kawas.
I love that they brought the headlights back to something more in line with the 1st gen Z1000/Z750. Don't get me wrong, I think the current Z1000 is gorgeous but the 1st gen will always be my favorite.
the Z800 is the most popular bike here in Malaysia
Love the production and detail that went into this video.
Someone has already said but have to say a very good review video for a change for MCN
just tried this bike out. It feels light, actually, and its very agile. Fun bike to ride :)
The weight is disappointing, but I still wish they released this here in the States. I would love to have this as a backup/daily bike. I think the styling aces the Z1000, and I love the girth of information on the new gauges!
Yay finally a video with good sound! Nice work keep it up!
WOW a good vid by MCN? It's been a few decades but I vote up :)
Great video. Let this be the template for all "first ride" videos.
Your the best Mike, keep on rocking and rolking!!
Hope your hands thawed out!!
Great review guys finally getting the sound right
I like both. Tach for the revs, digital for the speedo.
awesome video, really appreciate the improvements. you mentioned the weight as a negative but you didnt say whether it has affected the performance. Some heavy bikes can still work well depending on the overall package
Wow a review of this bike already... I'm sure it's the first up! God I want to work with you guys!
Shot guys, the future looks bright
Agreed. I hate those digital ones that look like a progress bar on a computer
as a young person (23) one would think that i would disagree with you, but after riding a bike with an analong tach and digi spedo, i can say that i prefer booth my tach and speedo to be analong just like my 02 SV650.
the bike looks beautiful .
Well done Video. Thank you for the good work.
In the flesh the Z800 visually looks so much more interesting than the Z1000.
I'm about to order one of these two (px'ing an 09 Z750) but I just can't decide between the them. I guess back to back test rides will give the answer.
ha at 3:11 i see a Toyota Celica on the left, & it looks like the hood isn't closed completely... damn OCD
probly never, naked bikes do realy well over seas but in the states though if people like yamaha would offer a better package out the door with the fz8 we might start to switch over.i think they redid the 2013 fz8. it may be to late though
I have a 2012 ER6n and i know that the z800 is more powerful, but i havent find a design in japanese motorcycles that beats the ER. I find it the most beautiful naked bike yet (japanese)
well i can't really talk i just bought a 750 that is restricted to 100bhp for emission rules at the time in france. but i only got it to look at it anyway so not to fussed about the power. i've got my gsxr 1000 k1 and cbr 1000 rr7 for that.
my mate used to have z750 it was a nice little bike. bit windy over a certain speed but good round town
up to you but the z750 in any spec has always had a rather dodgy write up, is it worth a discount to end up with a questionable bike? you have to decide whether you are gonna kick yourself in a month or so's time if you go for the old 750. Personally if i was on a budget i would rather buy a z1000 on low mileage and a few years old than buy a new 750, that is if your a kwak fan, if your not fussed about brands then you should look at the street triple a thoroughly awesome bike.
I was going for a z750 before I took my license, but ended up with the Street triple after a test ride of them both. 229kg is just a bit to heavy..
im really really torn wether to get this new 800, which just looks fantastic, or the latest model z750R at a serious discount...
I'm 6'4 and I felt fine when taking it for a test ride. but go sit on one if you really want to find out what its like :)
I would love to see this bike come to the US. I think more people could enjoy the 800 engine, the 1000 is just more engine than what is useful in this sort of platform. It needs to go on a serious diet though.
That bike is sick!! Damn...
bit of a budget yeah, test rode all middleclass bikes you can think of and STR is still my favorite but the prices have gone waaaaaaaaaay up. and i just don't trust triumph as much as a japanese bike, specially not secondhand! time will tell :)
The Green Goblin now has a motorbike!
Let the good times roll!
Which is better the Ducati street fighter 848 or the z800?
Calvin Green I was thinking the same. Neeves was also fan of the duc so witch does he think is better??
good video ..but sound is still off , no wind, but stop the wisper drone voice show some punch
very good job ........we would like you to compere street triple, z800 and the streetfighter
They will never be as fun as my Street Triple R 2010 or anyone year model =)
Such a good looking bike !
Wow, such a big difference compared to Z750 Neeves?! I never liked the 750 either, went for 650R instead (er6f). The only reason they sold shi$loads of them in europe was the price - it was the cheapest in it's class, and had the most power.
Leaves us with the impression that all the RD did, was to bore out the sil.
Wow that weight...I think they've attempted a go at a Speed Triple equivalent, but haven't quite got there.
Any update on a newer version of the Z1000 ???
Great video - really wanted to like this bike, but the weight, child-like styling and boring engine tone from the sound of the video really means it doesn't grab me at all the way the Street Triple (which I have) and Ducati Streetfighter 848 do.
Anyone know if this will be coming to the United States? All we have here is the Z1000.
nice video
would have loved it if there was more noise from the bike
Nice test, on the highways is better than z750? Can you make a comparative with z750 and the new 800? If this bike will made here in Brazil can be a honest price. Nice ride :)This is a nice bike but here in Brazil is too much expensive. Nice test, on the hightways
47kg. Fourty seven kilos. No way, I'd never change street triple for that.
great vid, really good stuff
Analog might look better, but it's also heavier and IIRC more expensive.
Im not sure about this, I think it was slapped with an ugly stick...I like it!!!
the z800e isn't lower spec, it's just lower power to suit the new A2 licence rules swear these guys think that power is everything -.-
Dude 18bhp is a big difference. Full version has around 113bhp, while the E-version has 95bhp. It's very easy, horses are strong animals, and the full power version has 18 more horses to pull you 😂
totaly agree with you!
He talks like he is preparing for a f*cking school assignment!
Love it :) mite nick one of these next spring ! Only jesting ;)
I agree on every point.
god so much want such a gorgeous bike imo
Could it be a begineer's ride ?
A pound off here, a pound off there, and there may be a real adventure bike in the making?
Looks really nice! but why the F is it so heavy???
Conclusion for me was buy the street triple
is it ok if I started on this bike? (used to ride a moped) lol
Yes, no problem. Maybe go for a Honda CB500f or something and get bored of that one first, but this will do. Easey to ride.
I'll tell you. Due to lighter weight materials and such that are now being used in engines in the last 5 years or so, analog tachs simply cannot keep up with how fast modern sport bike engines can change RPM. You may like the way they look but your tach would never be accurate under any form of race performance. It would always be behind the current engine speed. They ran into a similar problems with the Nissan GT-R. I would prefer my tach to be accurate, not "old fashioned" and wrong.
beautiful bike! Love it! :)
That white one looked much more classy. I understand the 'hooligan' image the Z800 is going for, but the green black one just looks a bit too much.
is it?
Nope again, my vehicle registration says 92 kW, that is equal to 125 Hp, but i can't show it you here (and you will probably not understand an Italian document), so i suggest you to do the easier thing.
(I know that on the wheel the Hp are way less)
I hope this doesn't come over to the US. I think the bike itself is pointless anyway. Kawasaki just needs to stick with the Z1000 and leave all the middle naked class to the other brand of bikes. How come the 800 so damn heavy? Forget that. Best thing to do is get the Z1000. Lighter, more powerful, meaner! Did he say this bike is more powerful than a gsxr750 though? I thought that bike had over 120 something bhp? This 800 just has 111
England ? what about the rest of the UK ? :/
Z800 - 229kg's Wet
Z1000 221kg's Wet.
Changing that exhaust will knock 10kg of the weight
The 2003 Z1000 is the best modern 'Z', certainly worthy of the original 70's design criteria...
Other than it looks far too generic, much like the last 750 \ 1000 model, I'm not sure about this latest Z800 as I've not ridden one... but the last two Z750's were appalling to ride, absolutely gutless with awful suspension ( and that includes the 'R' ) !!
Z forever!
never gonna be able to sell my z750 now :-(
Much much better video review. I really want this bike now. lol bike Michael had fun dodging cyclists and dodging cars that are dodging cyclists..
Nice!
Never liked ze kwoks, but this is better looking than my gsr750 (sorry baby)!
true, its like adding more fat and reducing muscles of the Z
The last model had appalling suspension, even the uprated R model we had here wasn't a patch on the Street Triple. The 'old' sleeved down 750 engine was gutless and this one seems little more, why add a couple of teeth to the rear sprocket if its performance was adequate..this is 800cc for goodness sake and it has no more torque than a 600 !?? Sorry, even if this bike is a far more credible model than the last edition, this 'expensive version' should be a lot lot CHEAPER than the competition !
Need to turn the sound up! Otherwise good quality
Weight is inexcusable though! How does this weigh so much more than a ZX10R for example? Its only 20kg less than a ZX14!!!!
thats waaaaay to heavy a bike for the power its got fuck that 675 is the way to go
onya neeves. only good mcn vids.
Wow. why so heavy?
It's heavier than their own Z1000! How?
+101francis101 It's more budget. Cheaper, heavier parts.
+Foxy Moto There's gotta be more to it than that. There's PLENTY of inexpensive motorcycle that are lightweight; look at the FZ-07 and FZ-09, both of which are about a hundred pounds lighter than this thing and the same price or cheaper.
+opmike343 Ya, the MT-07 and MT-09 have 2 and 3 cylinders and some clever design from Yamaha. The Z800 has 4 cylinders and a steel frame and swing arm. The Z1000 uses aluminium, which is more expensive but also lighter. And if you compare the Z800 to other 4 cylinder middleweights, GSR750 (211kg, but a 750), FZ8 ABS (216, with an aluminium frame and swingarm) or even the GSF650 (over 240kg, steel frame and swingarm), it actually doesn't look so bad. But yes, the weight will put a lot of people off buying one. :-)
love it
why no ZX8.....
that exhaust tip must weigh 23.432 kg's
Made in Thailand But not for Thai people
FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS?! holy hell thats a damn tank!
wtf did kawasaki do to make the bike so heavy?
47kg heavier than a street triple?/?
The weight is disappointing, especially being heavier than the Z1000.
Whats up with the digital tachometers now a days. In my opinion it looks like shit. You can call me old fashioned, but nothing beats a good old analog tachometer. It gives the riding so much more feel to it in my opinion.
Bien lo dijo en su opinión no la opinión de todos son mejores los digitales
Epic
is that how you check your bhp on wikipedia? lmfao
put it on a rolling road with legit bhp readings and you will see what it really puts out at the wheel.
