I don’t think aikido is for self defense rather it’s a method of redirecting attacks. You can choose to follow up lethally or subdue your opponent with it.

But yes, you can follow up with lethal techniques like eye-jabbing or a blow to the chin to cause immediate knockout with severe brain damage.
