  • In Minimax 1100r Wood Aircraft Build Ep 107 - Static Ports I define the location and start making them. This is another item in the rear fuselage that I need to get the mounts in place for.

    Looking great Dennis - really enjoying the build. That engine is definitely worth the wait! Can't wait to get the wings on and watch the covering process. I'm sure we've all learned some new skills and an appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into a project like this. Can't wait to get this one into the air so you can start on that 2-seater :-) . Thank you for all of the time and effort to take us all along on the ride!

    The pencil does look cool. I don’t need another pencil…I don’t need another pencil. 😁 I hope the wait for the engine goes quickly. Thanks for sharing! Peace and love..Suz What ☮️💚

    That is a bit of a pain having to wait for the engine but it gives time to get the covering and cool paint done.

      It is a pain! I still believe I’ve made the right choice and hopefully it’s worth the wait.

    May I recommend that you add a over centre spring to the fuel shut off valve? Would mean that on stays on and off stays off... read reports from the US and UK investigation branches of pilots legs accidently shutting off the fuel mid flight. For the sake of q $2 spring, could save yourself allot of aggravation. Awesoke video once again! Atb

      That’s a great suggestion! I’ll do some research on that and see how that would work.

      @@DTMinimax Wouldnt nessearily need to be that method. Just something that ymrequires your conscious effort to turn on (then stay on) and off (then also stay off). Look up the rice catch used to hold a long EZ canopy... that'll do the same job 👍

    Too bad about the engine lead time! It should be worth the wait, though. What's next? Do you think you might start on a Dakota Hawk? Keep the videos coming Dennis!

    • @DTMinimax
      @DTMinimax  3 года назад

      That is actually one of my 2 place choices.
      I think it would be great with a Corvair engine.

    Denise in one of your earliest videos you said the you had built a part 03 minimax 1100R. What makes this build different? Other than more fuel and larger engine. Thanks for the great video series, really enjoying it!

      Thanks Michael. My first time around was a 1030r with a Rotax 277.
      That structure is quite a bit lighter, especially in the tail. Mine came out just under the 254 lbs. that was with a latex/acrylic paint which I’ll be repeating on this one.

    Dennis. 6 more months before the engine arrives? That's no way to run a railroad. Why not consider another engine? Lots of good ones out there - just have to change the mount. Think about it: How long would it take to put a two cylinder engine together? Better yet, YOU get a kit and build one yourself. Now that I'd like to try.
    Concerning the static ports. I put mine in the exact place called for in the plans, "T'eed them together for a "balanced static system" and they would not work. First flight had a major Airspeed indication problem, coupled with my altimeter indications. Maybe it was my ports.(don't remember anything about them.) Worked with static ports for many years in my Avionics jobs, they were made for that specific airplane.
    Made a water manometer to check my AS Indicator - was good. I borrowed another altimeter to compare with mine while flying. All OK. Ended up venting both the altimeter and AS indicator, indicator static ports, to the cockpit. Flew with others, and my flight instruments seemed fairly accurate. I'm sure there must have been a pressure difference between the inside of the EROS and the outside, but indications seemed negligible. As your 1100R will be totally vented, all might work OK. You are moving right along, Dennis. And, a belated Happy Father's Day to you. :) Oh, just remembered: Vented my Vertical Speed indicator to the cockpit, also.

      Yep 6 more months…yikes.
      I am planning to use MGL instruments and hope the static ports work out fine.
      It sounds like you had quite a bit of work to do to get yours right. Maybe you are correct that the closed cockpit had some effect on it.
      I had considered building my own but I hear so many good things about Scott’s engines that I wanted to go with the proven method.

      Dennis. In the long run, you are probably right. Still a bit of work before the engine becomes "front and center." :-) All looks really nice.

    Denise any guesstimate on what the weight will be on this build?

    • @DTMinimax
      @DTMinimax  3 года назад

      I’m estimating 300-310 lbs
      Mainly because my airframe is all Douglas Fir
