Perhaps the most beautiful piece of music ever composed 🎼👏🏾 Love the thumbnails of the representations of Thomas Tallis, who's 'Why fum'th in fight?' inspired Vaughan Williams's masterpiece. This rendition is played with forthright energy - exuding much drama, really. Truly amazing 🌟 ❤
I recall the excitement that this LP generated at the time of its release and it reminds me of a time when I was young and it was still possible to believe that the world could become a better place. But, perhaps more to the point, it reminds me again of how fine a conductor Silvestri was and how great a loss was his premature death.
Ah, nice to hear a good recording different from the usual few I've heard over and over, however excellent they are. A different balance among the strings, a different sense of timing. Happiness is fresh music!
First time hearing this recording and a fine one it is. Some of the best phrasing I've heard and the Soloist parts are some of the very best interpretations I've heard. Thank you for sharing this.
Forgive me but I'm confused by the reference above to the James Judd/NZ SO performance here. The Silvestri/BSO deserved its plaudits, recorded if I remember correctly, in Winchester Cathedral. Their version of "In The South" recorded elsewhere, was also very fine - with the LP being critically praised on its release.
The greatness and wonderfulness of Vaughan Williams’ music is immeasurable and beyond description and off the charts and out of this World
This will quench the aridity of the soul

+Darrell Jones One of the great LPs. Wonderful. Alassio is also superb.
I know how you feel regarding music and a better world. Alas, too many people are tone deaf to great creations of the human mind and its music.
A beautiful, daringly lush, not timid, realization.
