There is a smaller Marbles hatchet also forged in El Salvador with an American hickory handle at the same company. Here's the link to that:

I watched the video where you restored the old axe. The Nicholson files. I recognized the box and went to my shop and found a similar one, 1930's or so, which I inherited. They were in my dad's workshop when I was a kid, and when he passed, my brother and I divied up the tools from generations going back to the 1850s.

The Snow and Neeley I have was new in 1973 and it is hands down the best cruising axe ever! It is 40 years old and on its third handle. I use it for everything including felling small trees.

I love your videos. I use to cut timber for Columbia Helicopters Inc., watching your videos makes me miss that work terribly. I typically carried and 5 lbs single bit with a 36 in handle for driving 12 in wedges during the falling process and a smaller hatched for tapping in wedges during the bucking process. I have dozens of axes hanging in my barn. My wife laughs at me cause she could always find me in the hand tool isle of any hardware store pouring over the axes. Occasionally, I go out to the barn and reflect on the job I once had, where these fine hand tool where used an a daily basis. Keep up the great vids. AJ

My little Marbles axe came in the mail today, I am VERY happy with it. Took it right out of the box and was trimming some trees around the property. Comes sharp enough to work with but I agree it need the touch of a mill file and a stone. One of the few values for the dollars today. Ya found a winner Cody !

Just bought one on Amazon, its on the way. The price on Marble's website is now ~$25. Amazon is around $36, which is actually cheaper if you have Amazon Prime since shipping one from Marble (for me at least) was an additional $15. So its really $36-40 online. Maybe you can find em in a store somewhere for cheaper. Great review, I look forward to chopping up some Aspen here in CO!

Just got it, grain orientation is basically perpendicular to the axe head. I know not ideal, but have you ever had a small axe fail due to poor grain orientation? (in the meantime i'm trying to see what the seller can do).

the amazon supplier offered to refund the purchase if i sent it back. at the time there were no replacements to be had, so i just kept it. i ended up getting a Gransfors-Bruk Small Forest Axe for my bday, so I tend to just use that. I think it (the Marbles) will hold up just fine for light camp work and for moderate wood splitting with a baton.

Hand forged of 1045 carbon steel in El Salvador? This is strictly an educated guess, but I'd bet you that that axe came from Condor Tool & Knife! That's not a bad thing. Condor makes good stuff at a good price. I have one of their Greenland Pattern axes and a couple of their parangs, the Village Parang & the Bushcraft Parang. They're all great tools and very well made!
BTW, you had two of my all time favorite axes in this video, the Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe and the Husqvarna Carpenter's Axe! If you had had an S.A. Wetterlings Forester's Fine Axe on that table it would have been a perfect trifecta, all of my favorites in one place!

I recently bought one of these Marbles Camp Axe's. It is absolutely everything you said and more. I maybe use an axe a dozen times a year and really wanted a "real" axe that I can carry, use, and someday be proud to pass it down to one of my children. This is it! However, I'll probably be buying all my kids one of these as it is so nice and although I've never used a really good axe, this fits my needs and I love it! I wish it would have come with a sheath... but I'll be investing in one to protect this beauty. Great review! Thank you. God bless.

So not too terrible of a wait and most certainly not a terrible price. lol I think the Amazon seller is probably trying to sell it for too much since apparently they are the only ones with any left. Of course that could be why they have any left. lol

Cody I think you have lost your Marbles! I sure as hell would rather buy an AMERICAN MADE axe at the same price point than some cheaply made piece of junk made in Asia or south America any day. Baileys out of California (Baileys.com) had the Council Tool Hudson Bay axe with a 26 inch handle 2 weeks ago for 17.95 . It seems as though you prefer to recommend junk or overpriced tools made outside of the U.S. I do not follow this protocol I purchase USA made goods whenever possible, this in return helps our folks and economy to grow. BUY USA MADE!!!

The Dollar is very strong currently vis a vis other currencies around the world. The real concern with buying products from El Salvador, or overseas generally are the labor practices that go on. The people who made that Marbles axe probably were paid pennies on the dollar. The expansion of bi lateral and multi lateral free trade agreements are what offshores jobs. And those jobs end up getting held by people who get paid nothing and are often exposed to dangerous workspaces.

Thor214 the value is decreasing as you can tell by the fact that back in the day you could buy a high quality tool for half the price of a shitty tool in today's economy

I got mine from Smoky Mountain Knife Works a few months back, but when I checked today they are also out of stock. They did however have a full size double bit axe for 28.99. Made in El Salvador and hand forged.

got tired of my wife beating up my plumb BSA hatchet, so i bought her one of these last week. in sharpening it up and putting some BLO on the handle, I liked it so much i bought myself one too.

I have 3 of them, in different handle lengths, all made in El Salvador. They too were listed as being 1045, "high carbon" steel, but those I have are a stainless steel. I wire-brushed the paint/coating off of them so I could do a forced patina & give 'em a more vintage look. However, they absolutely will not take a patina. Not sure exactly what type of steel mine are, but they sharpen well, cut well & hold an edge well. So for their $20-$25 price, I'm happy!

Couldn't agree more about the lacquer on the handle. My main gripe with it is that it's slippery when it gets wet. Problem especially in snowy conditions in early spring

Just picked up two, one for me and one for my son. I didn't manage the same level of edge as you did, but I did get the edge to a nice sharpness. I did find some small grinding issues between the two, fixed it with a file. These things are fine choppers. My son just got through a six inch limb.

It is so good to see that at least one manufacturer can produce a quality hatchet at a good price point. I for one would, and have, paid double this price point for a quality heirloom style tool like this. Lol I'm glad to see that this marbles axe was not the let down that the Bacho child's toy was. Keep up the great reviews Cody. Thankyou.

OMG I have this old pearl grip knife that came with a collectible truck model I got from this old man who went to my fathers coffee shop, it's MARBLES brand, this same exact company, I use it every day because it's the best knife I've ever used, what a coincidence! Never got around to looking up the company, now I don't have to. That is so cool, I love it when whit lines up.

i have a marbles knife that was my great grandfathers, probably made in early 1900's, and other than some wear on the leather stacked handle, and a little patina, its practically new, and holds an edge better than most of my other knives. I wouldn't be surprised if it lasts another 50 or more years.

nice starter axe...axe i use has a heavy duty hard "plastic"(solid) flourescent yellow handle with a quality axe head.
had it for about 6 years and used it a fair bit and it's good to work with as the plastic-whatever material "cushions" the heavy blows to the wood. they must have used a high temp. process to join the axe head to the handle as it seems like it's been welded together

My Marbles axe is the No. 9 but with a full polished head. Webster Marbles is an icon of bushcraft. One of my cherished possesions is a Marbles woodcraft knife with a convex grind. Wranglerstar is going in the woods to process heavier timber than my duo is designed for. Well: go light or go long? Or base camp and have more efficient tools and pots and pans? Over my outdoor life, I moved from light and basic to fixed and functional. Meet here on Wranglerstar and share opinions. These RUclips channels are fun!
