Hey as someone who is brand new to whiskey. pretty much have only tried a few. I have a bottle of some cheap bourbon and it’s kinda like I licked satans ass cheek…. What do you recommend to help get the burn down? Thank you in advance.
@@theserenitypodcast7570 honestly? Grab a bottle of something relatively low proof. I'll recommend Four Roses Yellow Label 80 proof. Every other day or so, pour yourself a bit of it into a glass. Smell it a bit (not a sniff, think like the smell from chemistry class. Soft inhale.) Write down anything you can think of to write down about that. Does it smell hot? Does it just smell like alcohol? Or is there more? Don't force it, just write what you get. Then sip just a little bit. Sip it like you're sipping a coffee that you know is gonna be hot but you're not sure HOW hot. Just a little little bit. Don't immediately swallow that, let it sit in your mouth a minute. Think about what you're tasting. Do the same thing you did with the smell. Write down what you got, even if that's just "heat." Write what you can about it down every time. Don't skip. If you don't like it at first, that's fine! We're looking for the day where you taste it and think "huh. That DOES have something there that reminds me of brown sugar" or something like that. Once you get there, congrats, now you've learned to look beyond the heat. It might take a little while though. If you're really wanting to try to get into this though, keep at it! I promise that day will happen. Might not even be in the first few WEEKS though.
Not op but if your new to bourbon try makers mark, it has a high amount of wheat in the mash bill making it a wheated bourbon. Wheated bourbons are generally more sweeter and great for use in cocktails like a old fashion or whiskey sour if you want to get acclimated to that burning feeling your talking about
Good picks, but no nod to the latest category in American whiskey? The newly defined American Single Malt! You could grab a Balcones Lineage for 35, sub the OGD for Evan Williams Bib and still be within your budget. And all the while getting more variety.
As soon as he mentioned Tennessee whiskey I knew it was gonna be Old No 7. I drank so much of it when I was younger I gotta have something a little sweeter now.
Got the Elijah Craig front and center in the camera the whole time and is definitely good, inexpensive starter bourbon and we just glazed right over it. Elijah Craig's 18 year is far better than any Blanton's I've had and the same price point.
I don’t like old no. 7, but Jack Daniels is making some real bangers with their single barrels. Side note: American Single Malt is also getting real popular. I haven’t pulled the trigger on that, but I have over 100 different bourbons and ryes and Tennessee whiskeys at my bar at home
I would highly recommend anything from Middle West or Stranahan's for American Single Malt, there's plenty of others in the game making good spirits but those two are crushing it right now.
I mean, the question for Blanton's would be fair if someone is spending a 100 bucks already. Personally would have added a bottle of bitters in there for easy access to an old fashioned. If the buyer wouldn't like any of the bottles bought at least they could be used that way.
I'd skip the JD and get three better whiskies. They can get the better JDBP later down the road. High rye: 4 roses Small batch (or single barrel if your local costco has it, mine has it for $35), wheater: Makers mark 101, and rye: Sazerac rye/WT 101 rye (depending on availability).
Don't get me wrong - Jack Daniel's was pretty much the entirety of my Whisky journey for many years in and just out of college. That said, I think a bottle of that Buffalo Trace would be a better starting point. Keep the Larceny for a Wheater. Rather than a high Rye, just go with a Rye. Old Overholt is good, but Bulleit might be more the speed of a Beginner. Hard to go wrong with Rittenhouse BiB either. I'd round out the last $20 with some shooters from Four Roses, Maker's Mark, and Wild Turkey to get a sense of other distiller's profiles.
@@dinneratlunch There are literally BT bottles sitting over his shoulder. A year ago I would have agreed, but I'm seeing bottles sitting on shelves as much as not these days. I would avoid throwing in Benchmark bonded or Full Proof. Hard to beat the value of those for well less than $20. But I know all too well that they aren't in all markets (including my own).
OGD114, buffalo trace, redwood empire pipe dream, and still could get another 30 dollar bottle, or just spend 70 on a eh Taylor small batch and be good
Evan williams bib white label (18) elijah craig small batch (25) old forester 100 (25) rittenhouse rye bib (25) would be my starter set with about 7bucks left over for a shooter of elijah craig small batch select for a friday night pour.
Was that Jack green label 3 bottles over? If so, buy it all. Distillery is discontinued it for sale to the public. They use it for their flavor bottles now.
Green label is pretty terrible juice, the only reason to buy it is for "collectors" and well I'm only into buying whiskey for drinking because I'm just a mad lad like that
@@dogs3700 single barrel, SBBP, etc are all great but I was trying to stick w the bonded bc that’s more budget, in theme with the video. Everything Jack Daniels does outside of old number 7 is great to sip on. Old number 7 is just a mixer
No 7 was my go to for years but I felt like they had a dip in quality. I usually go for bonded or barrel strength these days and like to rotate my selection. ☮️
I get why you added regular jack daniels to the list but for me it would never be on any of my lists let alone anything I reccomend bc for the price it's just not at all good I've had far better for 10 bucks jack daniels set me back several years bc I thought it was what whiskey tasted like and I didn't like it and it's the same for others that I know plus there is far better out there from Tennessee
Curious, how is your channel allowed to be monetized and make a profit, when ALL liqour is controlled by the state? So basically YOU and your channel are making money off Controlled liqour by a state controlled commission..lol Does your state know your making $$ advertising state owned liqour? Im genuinely confused here! Cant somebody educate me on this? Seems like a conflict of interest 🤷🏽♂️
As a man with a basement, shed, and 3 closets filled with whiskey….i could live on Old Overholt 114 and be a happy man.
Even the 100 is solid.
(Btw the 11y/o Overholt is excellent as is the A. Overholt if you haven't had them)
this is true

Sounds interesting. I'm a big fan of Irish Single Malts, the Balcones could be right up my alley
Nice 🎉100% old grandad bottle and bond is the best for its price😊
Definitely, it’s my favorite bourbon for cocktails.
Evan Williams bottled in bond too. But that Old Grandad is definitely an absolute "must have".
I agree.
Even as a bourbon snob.. those picks were great, especially for starters
I need this for every type of alcohol in a playlist

Old Grand-Dad Bonded and Larceny are two of my favorites. Larceny is comparable to Lot B Pappy, and Bonded OGD is drank by James Bond in the novels.
Merry Christmas Liquor Store Bro's!
Keep this video format!!
Can you guys do a video on a few Scotch choices that you have, please.🤔
Fantastic picks thought I might've gone rittenhouse for the rye.
Nice selection you have. Got my eye on that 1792 full proof right behind you. Gooodstuff
Yes, its awesome. Having some as I type.

@ thanks for the heads up. I’m not a fan of peat, but apparently I can find good unpeated ones
Damn maybe they should just carry Blantons at this point
Lol... yeah you would think people at liquor stores would take the hint by now >:D
ogd bonded has more complexity than your average Blanton's bottle lol
Then end is chef kiss comic 😂😂😂😂

Buffalo trace is so hard to get in most markets so JD is a more realistic option imo

No Blanton’s? No deal.
Jack Daniels is water and a mixer. I would have liked to see Elijah craig for that price
OGD114, buffalo trace, redwood empire pipe dream, and still could get another 30 dollar bottle, or just spend 70 on a eh Taylor small batch and be good
Great selection! As a TN native I got to agree, Jack is required reading. Also Blanton's is over rated!
And if you have a few bucks more, just throw in that bottle of Mellow Corn on the shelf.
Uh, I would contest that hi rye bourbon is more popular than wheated. But good call on Bib grandad.
Hmm🤔 I think I’d rather make it a 3 bottle line up and go with.
Nearest Green Tennessee Whiskey
Old forester 100
Sagamore small batch
The most dreaded question every liquor store employee gets at the end. Nice.
Biscuits are good with gravy but is gravy good with biscuits?
You said the thing! Thanks for the great wisdom and the little Christmas present at the end.
I had CC on and it totally called Wheated bourbon as "weeded bourbon"
I'm sure there is a market for this product.
I'll go ahead and grab a bottle of each lmao
bulliet 12,copper craft covered for even the biggest bourbon snob
Make way for 'Bottom Shelf Bob!"
Wild turkey 🤔

OGD is the truth
Swap the Jack for Old Dominick's Tennessee Whiskey.
Gentlemen Jack is the way to go $26
Big fan, but, after a couple it goes down like Kool aid. Dangerous stuff!
Do a video like this but for tequila and rum
I'm here to rep my boy OGD BIB
that old grand dad bib is really good
edit: Jim Beam > Jack Daniels...
Agreed.
Y'all are cool
Well played Liquor Store Bro... Didn't see "The Question" coming.
As always I enjoy the wisdom, fun facts and humor... Keep it wet Bro's
I got 10 bucks let me get that fifth of 5 o clock vodka keep your whiskey
Larceny is made by Heaven Hill Distillery, not “Fitzgerald Distillery”
The small batch is aight. Their batches have some 🔥 in the mash.
The cheapest bottle of JACK DANIELS you will get in IRELAND is 22.50 euro (700 mil) . How does that compare to America?
wt 101, evan williams sib, knob 9 and youll still have 20 bucks to spare
That's Florida prices, bruh. A lot of other states; $100 wont get ya started
All those bottles are about $25-$27 in about every state.
All 4 of these bottles can be bought for $100 or less total in pretty much every state
Was that Jack green label 3 bottles over?
If so, buy it all.
Distillery is discontinued it for sale to the public.
They use it for their flavor bottles now.
looks like JD apple if I had to guess. would track as it's next to the honey and fire labels
@ thought that after posting. Just haven’t seen the green in awhile
Green label is pretty terrible juice, the only reason to buy it is for "collectors" and well I'm only into buying whiskey for drinking because I'm just a mad lad like that
Do you have any Buffalo Trace?
Behind him on the left, surprised it wasn't one of the recommendations
Buffalo trace is everywhere in my area and 19 dollars a bottle at Sam’s club
all good picks except for the jack daniels, should of went with the Jim Beam instead.
Beam is undrinkable
He literally said he was picking a Tennessee whiskey. Jim beam isn’t. Could’ve gone jack bonded instead of old no. 7 but
This is the correct answer. Jack bonded is not much more than standard no. 7 and is just better in every way.
@@animalsteele1the og no7 is so bad, bonded is better, single barrel barrel proof is great!

I dont understand the Blanton's hype. Id take antique 107, Eagle Rare or Buffalo Trace any day over it.
Can’t find eagle rare to save my life lol, but I got eh Taylor small batch the other day for 69 and it’s totally worth it
All the wisdom but the man takes a Steele Reserve tall can.
