    WHAT HAPPENED
This wingsuiter forgot to disconnect his seatbelt before exiting the plane, which left him stuck hanging under the plane on jump run! Luckily there was another skydiver still in the plane who quickly whipped out his trusty hook knife and saved the day, but unfortunately the second jumper also had to deal with heavy line twists on opening. A very eventful jump to say the least.
    WHY DID IT HAPPEN
    Confusion?
According to the video submission, there was a last second change in exit order that may have led to an undue level of confusion. Potentially that may have contributed to the jumper being preoccupied with the exit and forgetting to do something basic like ensuring that his seatbelt was undone.
    Forgetting the basics
Undoing your seatbelt and making sure it is clear of your gear is a basic concept. But, generally speaking, anyone sitting near anything that could potentially snag their gear needs to be aware of that danger and proactively ensure that it is not hooked to any of their gear before the door opens. Let alone before they exit.
    HOW COULD IT BE PREVENTED
    Maintain situational awareness
There’s really no excuse for this incident because, not only should you remember to undo your seatbelt, but any experienced jumper should be checking to make sure all seatbelts are tucked away before the door opens.
    Jump the plan
We’ve touched on this quite a few times in recent posts: when you’ve established an exit plan and dive flow on the ground, don’t change it up in the plane. There will always be another jump, so changing the plan while in a loud plane where you can’t really discuss things in a calm and discernable fashion is not the right answer.
    ADDITIONAL NOTES
    Mad props
Seriously, the second jumper is owed a bottle of liquor and not just beer. They immediately comprehended what was going on, knew where their hook knife was, whipped it out, and cut the wingsuiter loose. This was an epic save.
    Gear checks
One of our good friends has previously assisted in reviewing Friday Freakout videos and has harped on the fact that every jumper should have a hook knife and have it as part of their gear checks and emergency procedures. This video demonstrates why that individual, while a hippie of sorts, is absolutely correct in his opinion on this matter.

To me I looked like the buckle git caught under his straps. Must have been hairy looking at the tree tops. It happened to me in the army on a jump that I was tangled up with another gut under the plane. Both chutes streamers or cigarette rolls until I got mine untangled this his opened and mine next keeping cool headed is the only way. Do what you are trained. Straps like the one cut should never be around an aircraft for jumping unless during a long enough flight luckily the guy next was prepared, smart fellows.

Yeah, gotta think fast sometimes...boil it down quickly. It's possible that the dangling skydiver could actually take the plane down...if their chute deployed and they couldn't get that seat belt undone, that would be horrifying. So hook knife hero quickly thought "best/only option is to cut 'em loose...and I'm the only one to do it...here goes..." As quickly as you can read that, is about as long as the decision took...

When you take a skydiving course, you learn that this is a possibility, so I guess this was just business as usual. Not in the sense that it happens all the time... But in the sense that there is a procedure for it. If someone gets stuck to the plane, cut them loose.

So there’s a few ways, what he did was right (bringing it down to your risers so you can handle it there) but he kept trying to fight it while keeping his body stable and not moving his body around at first. Once he started to do so is when he got out of it. But there are a few philosophies on how to handle line twists, at the end of the day rely on the training you know and what works for you and if not that’s why you have a reserve.

So im very very new to skydiving, less than 50 jumps. But, I was taught when you have line twists you spread the risers from the bottom amd try to kick opposite. Doesn't seem like trying to more or less roll them out would be the most effective. Anyone have some I put on this?

The untwisting is painful to watch. He brought the twist down to a point where he could reach above it. That should have been the end of it, just push off the suspension lines above the twist in the opposite direction. Super easy. He kept trying to pull them apart.

Another excellent example, "Accidents speak louder than words"
Now the "never had any trouble before" jumpers,
may have a change of mind and start to carry at least one, "Line Separation Device" (aka. HookKnife)
    (start at 4:40)
    ruclips.net/video/1rCvRavK4Hg/видео.html
    as well
Good he wasn't the last one out the door,
put the jumper with the Knife on your Christmas card list and Santas Good list.
The LineTwists were just more evidence "No good deed goes unpunished"
good technique getting out of the twists.
p.s. check the screws securing the blade, occasionally they loosen up and fall out,
keep your knife in mint condition, for that very special day.

I did something like that decades ago. I was last jumping fourth out of a Cessna. It had a handle right above the door that was a loop and for some reason I put my hand into the loop so you can guess what happened next. As I exited my hand stayed in the loop and all of the sudden the loop was about 5 feet long and I couldn’t get my hand out. I was bouncing up against the fuselage and I could hear the pilot yelling “let go! let go!” It was so long ago I was wearing a front mounted pop top. The pilot put the plane into a zero G dive and I floated up next to the door. I guess he undid his seat belt and reached out of the airplane and grabbed me and pulled me back in and I did a somersault into the back of the Cessna. As soon as we straighten back up he started yelling “go go go” and I jumped none worse for the wear. I think they ducked taped the strap shut after that.
