Jaap Stam had an interview in the Netherlands recently, where he talked about this match too.
He said that basically, after that first goal, the hole defence was just in complete chaos, and they simply didn’t manage to reset themselves well until it was too late (I think this chaos in defence was also seen with Atalanta against psg).
He also denied the story you sometimes hear on the internet, that the Liverpool players heard the Milan players celebrating as if they had won already. According to Stam, Ancelotti actually was very critical of the team’s performance, and everyone was silently listening to him (or watching his eyebrow maybe).

3:17 -Bayern had a really positive emotional response against Barcelona. They are leading 4:1, and after 5:2, they are still attacking without slowing down. They played in same gear for full 90 minutes, not giving any opportunity to the opponent.

In my view, barca got their motivation when Suarez scored the second for them. But at the same time, Flick angered and screamed to his team, so their motivation got pumped once more and planned to keep it. The Davies vs Semedo was the most critical moment of the game. Got humiliated when their motivation raised crumbled all of the positive responses of the entire squad including Setien's. Coutinho's job was more like an icing on the cake.

I can pretty much think about these moments in every huge CL comeback in the last decade. Remember how PSG couldn't complete 3 passes after Neymar's free kick in the Camp Nou. How Barcelona let the two quick fire goals from Wijnaldum completely destabilize them to the point Alexander-Arnold could just take a quick corner kick while the entire Barca team switched off. If you go through every successful and even nearly successful comebacks, you'll see those moments where a goal goes in and then another comes right after because the defending team just loses control of the game.

They go from winning to losing in one mistake from the goalkeeper, now having 23 minutes to make another goal, when they needed 94 to make 2. If we also count the fact they were physically tired due to extra time, and would need to run to attack and back to defend against another goal, I totally understand they giving up.

But you could say that was a turning point in their season. I wonder if the psychology works the same over a long period of time. The 9-0 is their lowest point. It looked to me that they were certain for the drop. It took a few more weeks to really change things around but ultimately they did mount a comeback and finish strong. Conversely Norwich or Bournemouth who both started strong ended up folding when results didn't go their way.

The most important thing in sports is momentum. I hear that more in american sports but ive literally never heard anyone use the word when talking about football. but its plain as day to see. look at leicester. they won their title entirely by riding their momentum. And comebacks are smaller versions of that. one good tackle or pass leads to positivity and that leads to more good things and that leads to a goal and that leads to more goals. its all about finding small victories wherever and whenever you can and always building on your momentum. In american sports its usually not the "best" team that wins playoff series and championships, instead its whichever team is "hottest" at that moment. I think jurgen klopp has tapped into this beautifully. "from doubters to believers" is basically another way of saying "we're going to build on positive momentum instead of feeling down about bad things."

That champions league final brings back bad memories. How can you be 3-0 up only to lose it on penalties? Fortunately it was rectified two years later.

Secret is the crowd. They always believe. Probably the best fans in the world. How I envy the support they give their team in the hour of need. Even on that night there was a belief that they would turn it around before the game had started.

Best comeback ever... Rocky Balboa in Rocky II. This movie should be played to the underdog team on the evening before the big game. Yes... I know it's a movie, but 'Adrian! I did it!' beats all the psychological science (for me) easily. Just youtube Rocky II full fight, and, if it doesn't make you want to be the best you can be, for a few hours... I don't know. I'm not a psychologist.
