Here after watching Liverpool vs Leeds. So interesting to see almost similar styles playing against each other, and Leeds played really well!!! Unbelievable game
Bielsa is one of the best underrated managers of all time... Coming from a United fan. Bielsa changed Chilean football and built the base of of their "golden generation". He takes challenges and that's why he isn't that recognized. Took Bilbao who only uses local players, O. Marseille in one their worst years and promoted leeds after 16 years. Playing attractive and pressing football. Knows how to neutralize teams and apply a winning mentality to his players. A genius.
He is not underrated , every body who know football and it history knows he is the best manager. Although he is not a famous manager because of lack of trofies.
Great comment. Just wanted to add for whoever didn't know: He actually did win I think 2 leagues with Newell's in Argentina (his home team) and made it to a Libertadores final with them. (Also won one league with Velez). He also won gold in the olympics with Argentina in Athens. And now Championship with Leeds 👏
Makes sense, when he came to leeds he said he would improve their current team rather than bringing in a lot of new talent which obviously suited the new owner. But considering leeds form before his arrival to now, you've got to wonder how many potentially legendary football players were lost because the manager wanted to solve problems through the transfer market rather than their implementation of tactics.
He stay loyal to his player n improve them despite fans mock them. Maybe that the reason d player thankful to him n that y pep said that he is d best manager despite not winning trophies. He wins d best trophy when he can maximize the potential of them.
Hari Bhandari because they move it quick from the centre. From central Defense and midfield. Also they cut inside from wide positions a lot. This is how they stretch teams and why some teams lose shape against them.
You forget, Liverpool play quite compact and exploit open spaces. When teams play 3 back/5 back, they use a more attacking Henderson or Chamberlain to penetrate through the middle , and weaken the oppositions defensive solidity. This happened many times last season.
British Football Media actually tried to argue something of the sort when Moyes played exactly the same way for 11 years at Everton. The rest of his management career shows how wrong the British Football Media were.
I think it's more got to do with lijnders who's more extrovert and talkative towards the players making the players like him more than buvac, this became problematic because it undermined buvac's authority and influence hence creating an "internal competition" between those two. In the end one of them got to leave the club and we all know the rest.
Didn't something come out that Buvac was interviewing for the Arsenal job and didn't tell Klopp or something? Could be pure BS but Ive seen that as well.
_El Loco_ is one of the most influential managers in the history game. I look forward to seeing him at work in the world's most competitive professional football league!
If both teams try to counter press there'd be a lot of goals. Gegenpressing is high risk high reward tactic, because if you fail you expose space, if you succeed you have a good attack. This is why klopp stopped doing it last season and liverpool played out of possession and set pieces winning boring ass 1:0 games
the game evolved from playing short quick passing in small spaces and regrouping to defend, to now pressing the ball actively and attacking the big spaces with small direct sequences.
I find the illustrations and overall aesthetic has improved significantly. Your voice over complements this, and so results in an overall quality video. Always keen on seeing more from your channel - keep going mate!
Great video as always! I think the final point shows the biggest difference between the two: Klopp is flexible, willing to adapt & always eager to learn from his peers; Bielsa is notoriously stubborn & rigid with his tactics, often to the point of alienating his players & staff. Of course, both men have a clear and concrete footballing philosophy, and have spent a long time refining it, but I feel like Bielsa isn't as willing to evolve as Klopp, in recent years at least. I AM a Liverpool supporter, though, so I'm obviously a bit biased ;)
Bielsa has never stayed anywhere long enough to create a dynasty, and his methods have always worked, to a certain extent anyway, with the teams he’s coached, so why would he change? For Leeds’ fans he’s our saviour already so if he leaves it‘s very unlikely to be because of the fans. It’ll be interesting to see whether he adapts or leaves if his system doesn’t bring the success he expects. My guess is he’d leave rather than adapt, but who knows? He’s the ultimate enigma.
Nah you are absolutely right. It costed him many times tbh. When he was Argentina coach, his side was one of the greatest team in their history, yet they failed miserably because of Bielsa's stubbornness. Almost same thing happened in Bilbao too. He lost two finals with them. The reason he did wonder with Leeds because low tier teams don't need flexibility. If you have a good structure, you can do far better than the others. But in top football, it doesn't apply. Including good structure, you will need a lot more things to compete in the top level. Some of the other prime examples of this are Sarri and Raneiri. They can do wonder with low or mid table clubs, but can't do the same thing with top clubs.
@@md.golammusabbirjoy9469 His Argentina side has still the highest win percentage in the history of the national team, I wouldn't judge his work solely for one or two games, they just lost to England in the world cup and many other teams progressed through the first knockout round with the same amount of points. Same applies to Bilbao: the fact that they reached those cup finals with a pretty average team bossing Manchester United at Old Trafford in the process is quite an achievement - after all, they lost to Pep Guardiola's Barcelona and a strong Atlético Madrid with Falcao on fire. His style of football demands so much from his players that he needs them to firmly believe in his idea, hence why he thinks that a 'plan B' is to get 'plan A' to work. What he believes is that, if he doesn't trust in his idea, he won't be able to transmit his commitment and desire to his players. Call it being stubborn if you like.
@@md.golammusabbirjoy9469 Ranieri won the premier league with Leicester, who finished 17th the previous year, I feel like that shows he did adapt to different opposition
@@carlx8409 Win percentage never wins you title, winning important matches does, remember that. This is why flexibility is important. In 2018 qualifier, Brazil team was literally flying. Just a quick correction; the +1 in defence principle does not include the keeper (1:33). If Leeds meet a team who plays with two up front, he will most likely line up his 3-3-1-3/3-3-3-1. And vs. a 4-3-3, he'd go 4-1-4-1. Great video, as always!

I feel bielsa is a bit like Enrique (or vice versa) because Enrique focused on getting the ball quickly to MSN and bielsa appears to do the same by overloading the final third
The entire success of liverpool can be credited to 5 players salah, mane, trent, van dijk, robertson these 5 have been outstanding day in day out and as long as they can perform klopp can continue to dominate the league with a backup of decent team supporting these 5. On the other hand other major teams had only 1 or 2 players that play at a similar level as these 5 do and injuries playing a major part in liverpool's success in last 2 seasons. With chelsea looking to increase quality of squad depth and guardiola hunting for centre backs it sure looks like this season will be a tight one, hope man united can join in too by making 2-3 quality signings.
It kinda makes sense that Bielsa is past refining his approach. The man has spent so much time watching, coaching, studying football that there must be almost nothing a football match can show him that he hasn't already seen, thought on and taken into consideration.
It will be interesting, but considering Leeds’ new signings have only been training with the squad for one day (due to nationals) - Leeds are practically using last season’s squad (minus the integral centre-back Ben White), and it would take a perfect masterplan to get anything from this Liverpool side.
The most similarity between the two is that they believe they can develop players, neither ask for players and are very loyal to the ones they have. The is a blessing and a curse.

2:45 wow Southampton and Leicester that high surprised me a little. But then again both have got great "new school" technical, progressive managers. Both underrated IMO. Hasenhüttl especially, Brendan does get praised at times. Hasenhüttl did really well to pick Southampton up and get them going again after the 9-0. Which ofc. was against Leicester. Both really modern managers. I really like them both. As a Boro fan I really wish we had a manager like that tbh. Wooders was the first manager of that type we've ever had, but sadly it didn't work out and now we've gone back to the Jurrasic period again with another dinosaur manager in Warnock. We should have got someone of the mold of a Rogers/Hasenhüttl a real forward thinking modern progressive manager. Really disappointed in our recruitment of managers over the years. I REALLY wanted Woodgate to do well. He spoke BRILLIANTLY about how he wanted to play etc. very open and direct in the way he talked. Very clear philosophy. I wished we could have held on better and given him a second season with some of his own signings.
Sampaoli, a disciple of Bielsa, played pressing like Bielsa on the field but with superiority on the attack in all teams he’s had success: La U, Chile and more recently Santos, last year.
This is a fantastic video, tifo never fail to give such an intriguing insight to the artists of football. As a Liverpool fan Klopp is my favourite manager and Bielsa is my second favourite, I really hope to see more fabulous content like this.
Does anyone know if there’s a football channel that breaks down advanced statistics like “Thinking Basketball”? This is the closest thing I can find to that and this is the best Football channel to me. Just want to see some of the breakdowns like they do for basketball.
Something that I found interesting recently is the recent Everton Signings. I feel as though Carlo Ancelotti is attempting to recreate his 4-3-2-1 Christmas Tree Formation. Could be a cool video to do.
Does a high press / counter pressing system require a higher degree of psychological investment from the players in order to function most effectively? To me that would seem to be the case for Liverpool and Leeds, even if both managers use different approaches to producing and sustaining that. Conversely Pep's approach strikes me as being much more systematic, and thus its success is based more on how effectively that system works more so than the motivation and drive of the players.
I find sides with pressing styles tend to struggle when going to the Prem. Hence why Klopp has adapted his style. As stated, Bielsa might be stubborn. Pressing is a style that most seasoned clubs are used to and only really works when sides have top top talents combined with being very well drilled. However, Leeds are probably better drilled than sides we've seen gain promotion with this style in the past, so could be an interesting comparison to see how well they do
Bielsa has just got into the Premier League after the 3rd time of asking, his success rate before he came to English football is marginally good and we are all going on like he is a God send. I think we need to reign it in a bit.
I think it's fair to note at this point that part of the reason Bielsa won't change his style is that it in itself is a marriage of 2 primary schools of Argentinian thought, and has a high degree of pragmatism beneath the ideological skin. Also, his opposition analysis being encyclopedic means there are always tweaks within the system to what he is doing.
Tifo and Bielsa are a match made in heaven😍

Does anyone know if there’s a football channel that breaks down advanced statistics like “Thinking Basketball”? This is the closest thing I can find to that and this is the best Football channel to me. Just want to see some of the breakdowns like they do for basketball.
I know only tifo basketball
Something that I found interesting recently is the recent Everton Signings. I feel as though Carlo Ancelotti is attempting to recreate his 4-3-2-1 Christmas Tree Formation. Could be a cool video to do.
They already did ones with Milan I think
Does a high press / counter pressing system require a higher degree of psychological investment from the players in order to function most effectively? To me that would seem to be the case for Liverpool and Leeds, even if both managers use different approaches to producing and sustaining that. Conversely Pep's approach strikes me as being much more systematic, and thus its success is based more on how effectively that system works more so than the motivation and drive of the players.
Do a video on ancelloti and Everton
I find sides with pressing styles tend to struggle when going to the Prem. Hence why Klopp has adapted his style. As stated, Bielsa might be stubborn. Pressing is a style that most seasoned clubs are used to and only really works when sides have top top talents combined with being very well drilled. However, Leeds are probably better drilled than sides we've seen gain promotion with this style in the past, so could be an interesting comparison to see how well they do
Depends on the pressing. Saints are doing fine with their intense pressing
Great piece again
Klopp vs Bielsa! Can't wait for PL to start!
Can you make a video on how Villareal will challenge and shape up for next season due to their good transfer window?
