I miss those types of videos. Less editing is not a bad thing. It's more convincing for me. The new videos are fine and all, but they kinda remind me of commercials to be honest, and I much prefer those more spontaneous ones.
I like how she respects the 20$ some people do the challenge and act like drug store brands are gross and dirty ha. I love how she thinks great tips yo.
I love how she's so genuine about how much $20 can be worth to somebody. A lot of girls complain and make a joke out of it but Michelle's actually trying and making the best out of the products.
It would be amazing if you could do this again in 2021. I followed you back when this video came out and it was so cool to find out about which products to get for less money!! Thanks for being a staple in all of our makeup experiences hahaha
Your so sweet and nice when you said that most people can't afford this stuff and it's true I'm really young but hope to become as nice and talented as you!
I always come back to this video because I just love her so much, regardless of how many 20 dollar makeup challenges I watch and the amount of other challenges I haven't watched yet, I always think of hers!! I especially love how she filmed herself in the store too xx
Arabella This is not what she was meaning. She explains that 20$ can be a lot of money to put on into makeup for some people who cannot afford a lot, so no one should be judgmental. The best brands of makeup are generally expensive, because they are investing more into their formulas, etc. Though, being the most expensive doesn't necessarily mean it is the best stuff. Advertising and cie are counting in the equation too.
I've seen a lot of younger people leaving comments on here talking about the cost of makeup. I'm not going to tell you not to wear makeup (I liked wearing makeup in my teens), but the one thing I will say is to keep your makeup costs down, you could probably cut out the foundation. If your skin is clear, you shouldn't need it! If you have acne problems, using excessive makeup that doesn't allow your skin to breathe will inevitably make your skin problems worse. So stick to using a loose powder, concealer, eyeliners and eyeshadows. Also, make sure you have a good skin cleansing routine!
i felt you so close to us in this type of videos, when you say sometimes of us its not much money on make up but theres people who cant affort those 20 for make up... oh men, time change michelle and i hope you keep having that thought
Different places have different exchange rates, but I know that in the Phillipines 44 pesos or something (I might have spelt that wrong), is only $1 in Australia
In my town in Australia we don't have high end make-up. We only really have Lorel, Maybellene, Revlon, Jordana.. I think that's it. A Maybellene or Revlon product is 16-30 dollers, and to us that is allot. But, good job Mish!
Sümeyye Yalcin for me, certain stores don't allow you to test/swatch the products which causes the employees to throw the used products out. but sometimes they offer samples that you can test/swatch
"I actually do read comments". Omg, you're so sweet Michelle! I like how this was affordable & how you mentioned in the beginning of the video that to some people $20 is alot, cause it actually is. You're one of my favorite youtubers, keep up the amazing work cause I love your videos! (:
Um I think Michelle is great... But when she was giving the speech about how $20 is a lot I was thinking how you could barely get a lip balm from her makeup line.. :/
The makeup line is expensive but the price have been lowered, like the life pallete used to be 75$, but now it's 59$, which I'm sure if people keep buying it the price will be reduced
Michelle, you should do the 20$ target challenge. How it works is you and a friend, or more goes to target, and you have to choose one outfit, a pair of shoes and accessories for under 20$. But the person who gets the best quality/looking outfit, wins. But make sure your spending limit is under 20$
thank you so much for making this a positive makeup challenge I love the fact that you made the most of it and took the time to acknowledge that 20 dollars is all some people have to work with when choosing makeup your point of view pretty much made my night
I loved this video a lot, but just wondering for anyone else wearing headphones, did anyone notice how you can only here her talking from one earphone? Or was that just me
The most I have ever spent on makeup is about 15 dollars. I'm in the competition team for dance and I use dance as a way to escape reality because I have anxiety. We are also a bit poor so it would be a really cool experience to do this. :)
For me 20 dollars isn't much because I have some allergies to most makeup, so I can only buy in some places which it is quite expensive, I mostly buy from the body shop because it is all natural and they also don't test on animals
#Michelle phan i want a small advice from u.how can i get rid of stretch marks on various parts of my body and how to prevent stretch marks.i have tried many hone remedies and bio oil but no use.plz help!!
IF U REALLY KNOW THAT 4 SOME PEOPLE 20$ IS ALOT ,THEN WHY ARE YOUR EM COSMETICS SO EXPENSIVE ?IF U REALLY CARE FOR SUCH PEOPLE ,WHY DON,T U MAKE YOUR COSMETIS CHEAP & AFFORTABLE
neither does my mom :D n I agree that u need a cozy convo between mom n daughter..we are ladies and beauty is our right..besides, I recommend the soft n natural make-up style :) good luck, dear!
You don't want to start too young, I started when I turned 17, just a bit of concealer and eyeliner. You should start off light with something like lip gloss or lip stick, or even a tinted lip balm. Maybe a bit of concealer but thats all you would really need.
Use Vaseline as mascara!!! It works SO well! You can also ask for a new Chapstick, but pick out a tinted one instead. Try using a nude lip color as concealer, if you have one of those. Hope this helped! :)
It all depends on how old you are. Personally I started with lip gloss at 10 then at 12 I started using some neutral eyeshadows and then at 13 I started using eyeliner and I'm now 15 and I do wear foundation, concealer, eyeliner and mascara. It's best to start off slow. Just ease your way into it. If you have your mom's permission get some lip gloss to start out. You could also ask if you could do her makeup or the other way around. Once she starts to see how responsible you are with it then she will start to let the death grip on makeup slowly ease away. Also talk to her. Let her know that there will be good and bad days when you're wearing makeup. You're experimenting and figuring out what looks best for you. Just take everything slow. There's no need to push yourself into everything. This past summer is when I got my very first eyeshadow pallet. And it was a ulta box thing. There isn't an age limit on makeup. I hope this helped. I'm just speaking from experience. I went through the same thing with my mom. Good luck!
Why don't you "save" your $5 dollars instead of spending it every sec. If you "build" your $5's, you'll get long "lasting make up". or you can work or perhaps young children as yourself shouldn't have make-up at all. You have nothing to hide, your all natural and healthy skin. Perhaps when your 15 or 16 you'll think of about make up & money.
Dollar Tree has incredible deals on quality makeup - so does Walmart and Target. And shop the holiday sales - there are incredible deals on palette sets, esp. after Christmas, Valentine's Day and Mother's Day. If there's a TJ Maxx, Marshalls or Ross in your area, they have deep discounts as well. Beauty supply stores have things that these stores might not get, and they have sales as well! And you don't need to buy something everyday. I'm an adult, and I shop maybe every two weeks when I get paid, and only spend about ten or twenty bucks. You don't have to have everything you see -- just save up for the items that are right for you! And remember, testers are your friend to see which makeup works for you!
1. you should SAVE money if you want to afford makeup ( I get 20$ allowance every 2 weeks. I spend some and then I save some. ) 2. if your younger than 12 you probably shouldn't invest in makeup 3. if your 13 (like me) than you should start out slowly and make your way up. i invest in lip products (lip gloss, sticks, and balms) and eye products (mascara, eyeliner and eyeshadow). since your still young you probably don't need foundations and concealers. :)
I have already watched this and I'm watching it again and i thought it would be awesome if you could make a more recent version of this maybe for an occasion that would be great! thanks btw I'm a biggggg fan i luv you and your videos
Can't believe you can get that much for 20 dollars in the U.S…. Where I live you could maybe get 2 or 3 items for that money, if you're lucky.. EVEN if it's cheap brands...
I used to use L'oréal True Match. I at first owned the N2 shade and it didn't look very good on me, especially since I was using way too much! Then I tried W2 and it was much better! I had determined it was the right color by using the testers at Walgreens, just like what you did :)
I'm just sitting here, looking at comments and wondering. Who the hell even needs makeup at the age of 10-14 and maybe older? I'm thirteen and I don't wear makeup at all. Just the occasional mascara for important events. You will ruin your skin by wearing makeup at such a young age! Honestly, this is only my opinion and I'm not telling you to do as I say. You can do as you please, just consider what I said. Girls in my class go ALL out. And honestly, they look like clowns with that much makeup. It's alright if you're not wearing too much, but if you go full out, it's not that pretty. Not only because girls at this age are unexperienced, but they think boys will like them better with a cake on their face..
a lot of people don't wear makeup for boys. they wear makeup for themselves, to feel more confident. personally, that's what i do, as a 14 year old myself.
yeah i make sure i dont go full out if i told u wht i put on you'd think i look like a clown but really the amount u put on makes the diff. i once one day put on too much foundation lol which made a big difference in wht i look like n after practice i got better i mean one time i didnt read the labels n went into school with my eyebrows blue lol. N also on school weekends i dont wear makeup then on break i try to only put makeup on if im doing a video or if im going out n if i want to wear makeup on a day i dont really need to i only put on some concealer n fill in my brows (Not blue lol)
Aussies who live in sydney! If you go to the basement level in Queen Victoria Building, there is a make-up store that sells relatively cheap make-up. I go for the BYS brand. I love their dark coloured eye shadows and their bronzers (I perform quite often on stage and I am dependent on their high shine warm bronzer). It only costs around $5. Not everything is amazing but I've found some good old reliable products there so it's worth checking out :)
Really??? "20 dollars are not that cheap and many people can not afford to spend that much money on make up, blah blah blah..." And yet you charge over 20 dollars each of your products!!!
I love how she talked about how 20$ could be alot for people and how she talked about investing and making sure it was safe
When you realize that Michelle doesn't need makeup in the first place
ya ik
So? Makeup can be fun and a hobby. Not everything is a need.
It's a compliment. They are saying she's pretty
I think she dose it for a art form like me I don’t do it to cover up anything. But she is flawless
in england they just tell u the price with tax on the price tag
You are lucky then
Anna li Also in Australia. The tax comes with the price. $10 is $10.
Anna li yeah, i was thinking that. it's included in the price so you dont even realize you're paying tax
And in ireland
Anna li Same here in France.
I miss those types of videos. Less editing is not a bad thing. It's more convincing for me. The new videos are fine and all, but they kinda remind me of commercials to be honest, and I much prefer those more spontaneous ones.

Preach! This is so much more genuine than newer videos. No one cares about the content anymore. It's all about views and money, which is really sad.
I like how she respects the 20$ some people do the challenge and act like drug store brands are gross and dirty ha. I love how she thinks great tips yo.
@oof so are you trying to say that people who are using drug store makeup is basically putting trash in their face? How toxic you could be
k. oooo so you must be rich rich
jazzy_killz tbh drug store brand are still pretty expensive
But yes they're still pretty good
The drug store make up made her famous in the first place lmfao
I love how Michelle is sensitive to the people who can't really afford more than $20 worth of makeup (like me) :) so thanks Michelle ily

I love how she's so genuine about how much $20 can be worth to somebody. A lot of girls complain and make a joke out of it but Michelle's actually trying and making the best out of the products.

For some reason I completely lost my shit when she rubbed her hands and said TIME FOR THE HAUL PORTION 😂😂😂 whyy
Lol
She's like "20$ are a lot of money to buy beauty products" but her makeup line is freaking expensive!
Arabella true
Arabella This is not what she was meaning. She explains that 20$ can be a lot of money to put on into makeup for some people who cannot afford a lot, so no one should be judgmental.

I like this challenge actually, it shows how you can still look beautiful buy not having to use HIGH END makeup.
watching this video in 2022 makes me realize how expensive drugstore makeup has gotten
I HEARD THE KINGDOM HEARTS MUSIC IN THE BACKGROUND! I screamed like a little fangirl~

It feels so weird that this trend happened 4 years ago :,)
i felt you so close to us in this type of videos, when you say sometimes of us its not much money on make up but theres people who cant affort those 20 for make up... oh men, time change michelle and i hope you keep having that thought

+Tố Nhi Trần my mom told me it was because of triple tax
Vicky Ningafu 😂 omg
In my town in Australia we don't have high end make-up. We only really have Lorel, Maybellene, Revlon, Jordana.. I think that's it. A Maybellene or Revlon product is 16-30 dollers, and to us that is allot.
But, good job Mish!
Isn't it usual that you can swatch produts directly in the store? Here in germany you can swatch everything
Sümeyye Yalcin for me, certain stores don't allow you to test/swatch the products which causes the employees to throw the used products out. but sometimes they offer samples that you can test/swatch
Hvnnvhc yeah lips products are usually the ones that are swatchable
"I actually do read comments". Omg, you're so sweet Michelle! I like how this was affordable & how you mentioned in the beginning of the video that to some people $20 is alot, cause it actually is. You're one of my favorite youtubers, keep up the amazing work cause I love your videos! (:
2:30 Great message! It's important to realize what we have when we have it and to remember that there are people who don't have the same privileges
She's exactly the same as she's always been: lovely, kind, smart, and beautiful.
Um I think Michelle is great... But when she was giving the speech about how $20 is a lot I was thinking how you could barely get a lip balm from her makeup line.. :/
True dat
The makeup line is expensive but the price have been lowered, like the life pallete used to be 75$, but now it's 59$, which I'm sure if people keep buying it the price will be reduced
Omg old Michelle Phan videos :') this takes me way back.

Holy crap you got so much for $20.. For $20 in Australia I might be able to get an OK foundation from Cover girl and that's it!!

Her hair is gorgeous. She is gorgeous 😍
wow here in Australia one foundation cost like $18 or over
Oh dang! The USA is pretty cheap compared to that 😂
In the Philippines, it's more 20 dollars and over too.T_T
Joan Balmania $20 is roughly 1000 pesos in the Philippines. :) Halos parehas lang ang range ng prices ng makeup products sa US at sa Pinas. :)
........wow this was 9 years ago, 2012 seemed like last year
For me 20 dollars isn't much because I have some allergies to most makeup, so I can only buy in some places which it is quite expensive, I mostly buy from the body shop because it is all natural and they also don't test on animals

I’ve watched your video since you first started your channel 😭❤️
Omg you used music from katamari damacy

1. you should SAVE money if you want to afford makeup ( I get 20$ allowance every 2 weeks. I spend some and then I save some. )

Lavianna Smith i agree was completely the same and im nearly 15 now and i still dont use foundation because i dont think i need it
In England you can swatch almost everything before buying it at drugstores ! Which is always good.
you bought the most expensive foundation! hahahaha
Not the most expensive... I bought the $50 Naked foundation (plus tax)
cupcakelover776 She's talking about drugstore
michelle, can you do an updated one? because you kinda cheated...
***** i think its because she used the coupons but im not sure...
maby cuz she went on twitter and facebook and asked them also maby the coupons
***** joyceismyname Josie Hanson The tools she's not suppose to use tools and she used a hairdryer
hehe yeah *****
But it's not a makeup product...
Loreal foundation, not a plug right?? and now she has her brand under the Loreal!!! haha!!!!!
I have already watched this and I'm watching it again and i thought it would be awesome if you could make a more recent version of this maybe for an occasion that would be great! thanks btw I'm a biggggg fan i luv you and your videos
Kingdom Hearts Soundtrack 😀♡
Can't believe you can get that much for 20 dollars in the U.S…. Where I live you could maybe get 2 or 3 items for that money, if you're lucky.. EVEN if it's cheap brands...
wait... 20 dollars is cheap for people...... what...
For an entire face of makeup it's very cheap, especially if you don't want to put products on your face that are cheap
one of the only beauty gurus I've seen that's pretty with and without makeup... wow
Why didn't she try on any makeup and u couldn't hear her?
There's another video of her doing the challenge
How bout a 10$ makeup challenge
I used to use L'oréal True Match. I at first owned the N2 shade and it didn't look very good on me, especially since I was using way too much! Then I tried W2 and it was much better! I had determined it was the right color by using the testers at Walgreens, just like what you did :)
i thought using coupons was cheating
2018 anyone ?
What does with tax mean? I don't live in the us sorry 🙍
value added tax ~ t.a.x
It's a teeny percentage (around 6 percent) if what you buy that is added to the price and helps pay for our government
Iris Kennedy wow 6%. In my country its 16.5% :(
in ireland its 23% :(
In the US it's 8 ish
i can’t believe this was six years ago.. it feels like yesterday 😭❤️.
kingdom Hearts Alice in Wonderland!
I know that music anywhere ^_^
+Savannah S. Marroquin OMG I WAS JUST ABOUT TO COMMENT THIS
Why can't you hear her
You do but IF you watch with headphones you only hear in one ear
+Jenny Sundgren thx

Yes, I know that. I'm just saying what reasons are bad to put on makeup. And too much makeup as well.
OK peace out
... You don't seem to understand what I mean. TOO much makeup at a young age and older is not good.
yeah i make sure i dont go full out if i told u wht i put on you'd think i look like a clown but really the amount u put on makes the diff. i once one day put on too much foundation lol which made a big difference in wht i look like n after practice i got better i mean one time i didnt read the labels n went into school with my eyebrows blue lol.
Not everything is amazing but I've found some good old reliable products there so it's worth checking out :)
should of gone to a dollar store :p haha thats what i do :p
Yasssss

Fernanda Mosqueda Try using the other earbud on you're headphones
you're obliviously not australian, makeup, along with everything else here, is expensive as dicks.

Anything after 2:12 is completely unnecessary. I'm not gonna read your lips for 6 minutes.
Really??? "20 dollars are not that cheap and many people can not afford to spend that much money on make up, blah blah blah..." And yet you charge over 20 dollars each of your products!!!
