  • Filmed in 2008, there was no room for error as a projectionist at Imax, everything had to be spot on to the frame, with sound played separately as it wasn't actually on the film like other more traditional film formats. Projectionist Kevin Adams makes it look easy!
Threading and unthreading was a laborious task, especially when running 3D presentations which required 2 separate runs of film, one for each eye. In this instance, Dark Knight was only 2D and being run on the bottom path through the projector (note the shorter lens).
Originally installed in 1998, this 1570 projector was removed in favour of digital in 2015 however it was re-installed 2 years later and works along side digital as required.

really interesting video, thank you. So nice to see a proper film IMAX projector and glad to hear it is now still standing next to the digital version.

Its great gear and fortunate that it wasnt discarded which then allowed for its re-installation.

I don't see how an old flim system is better than any modern ones :/

It all depends on what you look for and what your preferences are. Something that is shot on and projected from film has a certain 'quality' about it that digital material doesnt. Its a bit like the digital versus analogue debate with audio sources.
