IMAX Is Ripping You Off - Here's How

IMAX offers an enhanced viewing experience for movie-goers, who pay a premium on top of the existing ticket price to enjoy it.
The company's reputation grew based on massive screens and state-of-the-art sound systems. IMAX currently retrofits existing movie theaters with technology that enhances the picture resolution and the sound quality.
However, many of the retrofitted screens pale in comparison to the size of other IMAX screens. Yet movie-goers still pay the same premium, regardless of the screen size.
IMAX doesn't deny the discrepancy. When we talked to IMAX Entertainment CEO Greg Foster, he said: "If there are people out there who have a problem with it, they're not telling us."

Also majority of True Imax theater don't have the latest Laser Projector that promise higher quality experience, so for film that are not in 70mm, they are projected with 2k projectors instead, which suck because it's like watching a 480p video on a 1080p screen.

Good informative article, original IMAX used 70mm film with 35mm 6 track magnetic sound , the newer IMAX version 2 uses Digital and /or Laser projection with a digital CD-Rom for sound, in other words an El-Cheapo technically inferior version is better when it comes to marketing and making profits.

I remember the first time I saw an imax theater, it was saint paul's science museum and man was that something to behold, I guess in recent years they've lost the licensing rights and now its just an omni-screen or whatever but I assume its pretty much the same anyways. I still remember the documentary, 7 wonders of the world, I don't use the word immersive because to me immersive means all sensory are being used, not just sight and sound but it truly was engrossing.

the IMAX at Universal Citywalk in Cali is definately an IMAX Jr but if u want TRUE IMAX go to AMC16 in Burbank Cali

idc if they got the IMAX Laser now its too late. AMC16 Burbank also has IMAX Laser & yeah it took longer to get it but worth the wait. so now 3 theatres have IMAX Laser & thats Chinese Theatre, Citywalk & AMC16 Burbank

Here's a link to all the IMAX theaters worldwide and theater specifications. The larger screen sizes are the true IMAX theaters, but all are listed here. With that said, even the IMAX Jr. theaters are very nice, but they are not true IMAX and as the video states, the price of admission is the same.

Just the screens, it’s the cameras. A true IMAX movie is filmed on IMAX film.

The screen in my town is twenty something for two ppl and it isn't 3d or high def or heck the sound and picture don't even sync, so what are you complaining about, most Americans have to drive over an hour to see a movie on a decent screen anyway so what are you complaining about, remind me?
