For me, this song is as fresh in 2023 as it was when it was released. With all the amazing tracks they've put out since, this and Daydreaming, these two really hold up. Such an exciting and rockin' tune. The incredible fluidity of Kanami's work up front and in the background made a believer out of me! Yessir, Kanami has 2 solos - that's twice as good as 1 Kanami solo! Finally, I love how she weaves the melodic theme (Wave, correct my words) throughout the song - it's melodically as complex and symmetrical (conflict and resolution, like you said) as a great jazz standard.
Yes. This and "Alone" fit with their latest and do not seem simple or reductive at all. Kanami has always had "it".

Band Maid are the new Beatles but way more beautiful. They reignited my love for great music 4 years ago and I am a 70 year old jazz fusion prog rock drummer and they amazed me and captured my mUsical soul They are all incredible but AKANE IS CONSTANTLY AMAZING ME. I HAVE NEVER HEARD A DRUMMER THIS STUNNINGLY MUSICAL AND CREATIVE WITH SUCH AMAZING BEAUTIFUL CHOPS. WHEN YOU PUT THEIR MUSIC TOGETHER WITH THEIR INCREDIBLE PERSONALITIES IT IS SO BEATLE LIKE. MY DAY ALWAYS STARTS WITH BAND MAID.
I am an old man but Saiki here revs my motor and slams my hood! She is laying down the law like a boss!!Love the lyrics and the music is just magically good like spicy Keebler cookies. Sometimes I think Is BandMaid really as good as I think they are? Then Wave breaks it all down again and I am blown away once again. Thanks for your breakdown Wave!!!
One reason I love the live Studio Coast version is that Kanami's upper register work sits so nicely above the track. Crystal clear.
There is another version extended with the intro of this song. It's really worth listening to Kanami's show.

This is a perfect rock song. I'm glad they still perform it at recent shows.
The phrase translated as “deeper” is “motto fukaku” (もっとふかく), lit., “more deeply.”
Thanks for pointing out KOBATO’s low harmonies (they are too far back in the mix); in other parts, she sings higher than SAIKI. Her outfit in this concert always reminds me of a multi-tier wedding cake.
The fasteners on MISA’s tunic, made from knotted cord, are called “frogs” (my mother was a seamstress).

I don't know why, but Choose Me & Alone are both just peak Band-Maid for me. They're such freaking good songs. I can never get over them, I enjoy them like a completely unreasonable amount every time I hear them...
Both are peak “poppier” Band-Maid to me, and great to recommend to non-fans.
So many of Miku's song lyrics seem to be an inner conversation attempting to work out inner conflicts. "Daydreaming" and "Puzzle" are also about the gap between the fantasy of what is desired, the reality of what is possible, and the frustration caused by that gap.
If Kanami, Misa, and Akane's compositions are recognized as game changing, we need to recognize that Miku Kobato's lyrics are equally awesome. After all, those words sound great even if you don't understand them and they're even better when you see them translated.

Perfect rock song!!. Those very demonstrative lyrics of Miku are usually perfectly acted with the voice, the gaze and the movement by Saiki. The perfect example is the live performance of Puzzle in 2017, what a team of stage queens.
This is my favorite BAND-MAID sound on their evolutionary scale.
A Band-Maid classic for sure and it has amazing lyrics in my opinion 😊 it's always fun to come for a deep dive on one of their songs cause there's always a lot going on and it's all great, so thanks to you for doing it and to Matt for the request ✨

Yes, Kanami has two solos here; but you are forgiven for only just noticing! 😁 It is not humanly possible to notice everything they do on a first listen. Every time I listen to one of their songs I notice something new. And it never gets tiring; how is that even possible? This band has a real talent for absolutely packing their songs with interesting details, yet at the same time keep it 'easy-listening' in the best sense of that word. Both 'Choose Me' and 'Dice" just have a sound I will never get tired of, as Champ already once said of Dice...

Great coincidence Wave ! I just revisited this song and several reactions to it last night . It will always be a killer track for me ! Akane's drum rolls and fills always "strum my heart strings" and be thankful for the miracle of these five ladies finding one another !
Shibuya is the rare occasion when Misa uses her SG style black Cloud. Unfortunately songs recorded early in this show have Kanami low in the mix which is improved as the show goes on. During the announcement they did not mention where the August dates of the tour would be. Only that the 10th Aniversary Tour would continue.
Just love Akane's drum tones- that snare is fantastic. Probably some of Kanami's best solo's.
Hi Wave, great video. Choose me was the last song at Tokyo Garden Theater, was there at on the floor at MISA's side. What a song to finish the Okyuji with. Saiki is great at commanding the crowd, I call her the control tower of hardrock 🙂

That Miku strum at the end is 100% pure rockstar. I love this song, and still use it as one of the intro tracks to Band-Maid for people who are not yet fans.
I know you've seen this a bunch before (and in person) but it's nice to see a dedicated deep-dive into it. This song definitely deserves it. Just imagine this song was on single release with Daydreaming and Play... Hard to think of a better 3 song release than that. Maybe Sense/Hibana/Corallium.
Yep - Miku really seemed to have developed a lot of confidence around this era - the 2019 US tour and this Line Cube show - she is a full fledged rock star right up with the other 4! Me too: it's always in the playlist when I have the oppty to introduce someone to B-M.

First off, before I start, Choose Me is a great song and it was never on an LP or EP. It was with Day Dreaming as a single. This proves even a song that does not make it to LP or EP is not a throw away song for Ban-Maid. They just have that much great music that they exceed themselves. Does anyone know if this was maybe written after Just Bring It was released, or was it a song they didn't have room for?
One of the things I like about really good Hard Rock and Heavy Metal is the complexity of the music. There is always something you miss the first time around. Each listen you hear something you missed before. This gives a song great re-listenability. Most Band-Maid's songs fit into this. Mincho is always pulling tricks out of thin air and I'll be like, "Wow! Never noticed that before." Same with Misa Misa Misa (that's is her full name 😉) and Akane. Even Big Pigeon . . . .

Even Little Pigeon does some cool riffs on rhythm.
Saiki gets the accented distortion in her vocals and that little bit of dirt really enhances everything else she sings. The line, "Become my prisoner." That is viciously cool. Okay. Cuff me Saiki and take me away.

So for "Deeper", I was thinking the same thing. Google shows "Motto fukaku", which is exactly what she said, although it does sound much longer.
Miku's froggy low range vocals :) also Miku's winter wings edition lol i too love this version of their costumes, too hot for summer though.
It's a more sensual love song with the poetry of Miku's lyrics than Don't Let Me Down. Alan will agree with me.😉
I freaking LOVE this song. The only thing that makes me sad is when Kanami never hits that artificial pinch harmonic right before the last run in the solo when she's playing live. It just lets me down....🙃

It's the beginning of the 2/14/20 live version - I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Wave will say Kanami's too low in the mix
This is one of the few songs from LCS where she was up in the mix, it sounds great IMO.
@@mattdhorstman Of course it sounds great - in fact, I notice her solo seems to stand out more when I wear headphones - but, IMO it's lower in volume than would be optimal.
Looks like Kanani's a lot higher, on the neck, for the live solo. I guess she's tuned differently, for the show.
Showed a friend of mine who plays rock a few band maid songs and he said kanami needs so bleach because all of her solos are so dirty. Lol

The literal meaning of "motto fukaku" is "more deeply". Japanese adverb do not have a comparative class.
Lots of syllables ... which is one of the reasons Miku sprinkles in so much English.
