awesome video. clear and to the point. I bought something similar to this at the auto parts store and have been procrastinating because i was nervous about the project. I'd better get on it now before things get worse. You helped give me a little more confidence in this project, thanks!
You know that's not a normal CV boot yes, he should have explained that at least this video constantly has customers bringing me sealed boots saying this video said it's easy.......
I bought 2 of the 80mm cv boot kits. The boots are super strong and very flexible. Vastly superior to the split boots made in the US that I have used in the past, which are very stiff in comparison. The 80mm boot stretched over the 86mm cv joint housing with ease. The joint went together quickly and easily with the super glue acting as a lubricant until it set up in minutes. To be extra safe, I put a heat producing halogen light a foot, or so from the joint for several hours to fully cure the glue before stretching it over the cv joint housing. The clamps that come with the kit require no tools to put on and tighten. Just the same, I feel the normal compression boot clamps put on with a clamping tool are a bit tighter. These cv boots are fantastic. I just wish they were distributed in the US. The shipping from Italy cost more than the kits, but even including that extra shipping cost Hippo Red split boot kits are worth the money.
The Italians do it again. Kings of design and style. I was skeptical at first. I ordered them, 5 business days later they showed up at my doorstep in Newport Beach Ca. Followed the directions and Half hour later job was done... Still in tack and its been over a year. Sure there's cost of product and mail, big deal. Price the parts and labor and time in the States.. Wow! I saved big time.. Thumbs up HippoRed
Hi, I've always thought these boots sounded rubbish but now I've see your video I have changed my mind, that makes sense fitting the boot over the clean shaft first, I used to think "grease, glue, that's not going to work" but now I've seen it done, I'm converted. Great video.
Thank you so much for this video, so grateful! I Went to the Toyota dealer to go get a CV outer boot! And they were charging $800 just to do the job. These dealers think money grows on trees!
Really well made boot and much much better than the British version - Bailcast - which has a pitiful tongue and groove 1mm or so. The tongue and groove on this Red Hippo boot actually works! and it only took a week to get to me in London. The only downside is the clamps provided. Don't be fooled and use them as they will fail miserably. Use some proper CV boot clamps that crimp together, which I was forced to use, as these WILL come apart.
Unbelievable, last month I had to detached the complete control arms and what not to replace the boot. Never again I said, and now I see the most simple but innovative boot replacement. At least the other side will be simple 😂
Looks great but I would not trust it in the long run. I prefer to dismantle the axle and replace the boot sleeves on both sides (inner and outer). It is not that much more work and it is a good trusty feeling especially going on long distance rides like in the winter possibly risking bearing damage whwn not noticed. Do you have any long time and long mileage experience with theses sleeves ?

Yeah I agree. I just replaced a CV boot with a Quick Boot kit, that comes in two pieces. If I didn't thoroughly clean the CV joint out then the little piece of boot that caused it to bust would have remained inside the bearing area, thus causing issues and CV replacement.

Where can get this for my 2018 Honda civic?
i want to buy this for my 2007 nissan altima 2.5s do you think the 80mm or 90mm would fit?
The axles on my 01 Ford Focus have the tripod type connector joint not round, so if I use the round cv boot it leaks through the 3 u openings on the sides, do you guys have an easy cv boot like this on the video designed to also block the grease on those u sides? I know there is some gasket type adapters for those, but they are hard to find out there. it would be nice if you had those.
What boot would my car need, it's a 2000 Audi A4 B5 Quattro. Need both sides. Could you post a link? Thanks!
Good video.Thankyou.
