There are lots of us out there that don''t do Yoga classes for this very reason, you are not alone!!! Words and chants have power and I do not want to participate in a ritual I don't understand or that makes me feel feel comfortable.

I know what you mean Fan, about yoga chanting and have felt equally uneasy myself. I no longer chant. If one can separate the spiritual/meditational aspects of yoga from the body postures and breathing techniques common to yoga, then one can use those postures and techniques beneficially for health. I follow my own spiritual path and am not looking to follow Hindu spiritual practise.

Absolutely love your channel, I didnt think Vegan Keto was possible before I came across you! And being an Indian who practices yoga, I agree that there is a lot of religious dogma attached to it.. I admire your awareness and strength to say no.. wish you success in your journey towards clarity..

ty for sharing. Looking back from my 70's, I see those lessons in my past as well. i am a '50'S" girl - raised to go along without comment or rejecting anything in my path (don't make waves!). But thinking there are no choices for ME ends up being debilitating in so many ways, especially one's self esteem. I'm so happy that my daughters are oblivious to those harmful standards of those times. I appreciate your commentaries very much. Be well. Bye now

Hi Fan, I just recently watching your cooking show on RUclips and loved your vegan Keto recipe. I also was born & brought-up in Taiwan and now lived in L.A, so I completely understood that you sometimes mentioned about the special Asian sauce,etc.... will continue to learn more recipes from you. I’m also a Yoga,Pilates & Gyrotonic Trainer in L,A for 20 years, so I went through countless training, and all the training has its basic/fundamental value and it helped my practice at the beginning, but ultimately I became very creative about my practice and teaches my students the ways it works for each individually and not always following the training manual religiously, I’m constantly studying all source of informations just to broaden my knowledge from different sources , I must say, it’s been a life changing for me personally, also benefited to all my student’s needs.
So learn all you can and only do what you loved...... thank you very much for your honesty & sharing your story and knowledge with others .......Love from L.A !!

I usually enjoy your content very much as the recipes you share with us all are delicious, wholesome and easy to make. I also very much enjoy the way you deliver your content and your zen-like demeanor which makes me feel capable of acing any of your recipes. But today, i must say I absolutely loved this particular episode. People with thyroid disease are told to avoid Tofu. Thank you for sharing your experience with your journey and the products you have used. I am from Canada and I use Monk Fruit Sweetener religiously and I absolutely love the taste. We also have Stevia and Truvia here at our local supermarket (Walmart), and our Natural Food Stores. I find that Stevia has a weird after taste for me and the Monk Fruit is much sweeter with little to no after taste. Keep up the amazing videos. 🤗

13:50 - This. The reason I went vegetarian was exactly this perspective that grew on me slowly. When I look at meat I don't see food, I see dead animals. I don't tell this to meat eaters nor do I say anything bad about their way of eating - it's their decision. I just honestly can't see meat as food.

    • @texastea5686

Thank you for not being a crazy anti meat eater who throws fake blood on us meat eaters. I could never see myself berating a vegan for choosing to not eat meat, dairy, fish. I dont understand all this hatred directed at us 😒

Try getting a glucose meter and measure 30 min. 1 hr and 2 hrs after eating and see if it raises your levels and then you'll know immediately. Don't wait til 2 hrs later, your levels may drop to normal but do those benchmarks and instant results and easy cheats that don't kill you. I wouldn't trust my cravings and don't know what a keto meter does but glucose should be monitored and then you're set.

Your candour and depth of reflection about the yoga / chanting / prancing sessions indicates to me that you will become a very sensitive teacher yourself. Any leader of group sessions has to be self-aware and attuned to the power dynamics in the relationship between teacher and student; exploring why you ask the group to do something, and enabling choice, should be part of the process.

You are such a strong and introspective person. Human nature is to follow and be accepted, and therefore can easily be manipulated. I admire your strength to say no and be authentic to yourself. I have 2 family members that were influenced into joining a cult. Both have never been the same. One is still in it and brainwashed. She has not spoken to us since 1995. The other jumps from odd conspiracies to other odd beliefs, living in alternative realities sometimes. I still love her to bits, but it’s difficult to listen to her sometimes.
I follow my gut instinct, and do what works for me. Ancient Laos saying: More simple, more better.
Wishing you continued success in whatever you undertake. Thank you for your forthrightness and trueness.

.."to thine own self be true and it must follow, as surely as the night becomes day thou canst be false to no man".... ~ Shakespeare One must be honest in his ways and relations. I appreciate your plight in this matter. I know that you did not solicit my opinion but you, in my opinion, did the right and honorable thing. You were not being rude, just remaining true to yourself. However; it sounds like there was some judgment, on your part. It is true that we must be true to ourselves but also allow others to be true to themselves without judgment. I am so proud of you for sticking with your Yoga. We miss you but fully understand the commitment you have made to better yourself. I am very excited for you and pray for great success on this journey. As always, I look forward to hearing from you again. Enjoy life, and dance or in this case Yoga.

Hi Rhonda, yes there could be judgment on my part for sure. It was entirely possible that those who decided to join in at the end did it out of their own will. You provided a great insight. I think as long as you mentally prepare that it's only for one meal or one day, and you know you should restart the next day, I think an occasional cheat day is fine (maybe once a month or when you're invited to someone's house for dinner).

good for you... it took self-reflection and courage (from Latin, "heart" [cor]) to find out what's bothering you and to make an honest decision/determination in your life. We all need to look into ourselves to find our True Nature and never be conditioned by others In spiritual matters there is only one question to consider... Don Juan in his teachings to Carlos Castaneda put it very beautifully... “Look at every path closely and deliberately, then ask ourselves this crucial question: Does this path have a heart? If it does, then the path is good. If it doesn't then it is of no use to us”). Best and warmest wishes, Namaste.

Thank you so much for these incredible information and ideas. I am from Iraq and our dishes based on rice and bread, So keto for me is real challenge as I don’t like keto dishes specially most of it based on dairy which I have lactose intolerance, nuts allergies and fats I have Gallbladder disfunction , that is why I am struggling to keep on on keto diet. As you have just mentioned study your body and see what makes you feel comfortable, I feel comfortable without sugar and carbs, and use moderate amount of meat. And you helped me to find dairy alternatives which makes my life healthier. Thank you I feel happy to hear you I don’t feel guilty when I eat fruit from time to time.

    Hi Fan,
I’ve been really enjoying your sharing of recipes.
Now for the soy products. I’m a breast cancer survivor. I USED to eat some sort of soy almost daily. As I found out through my journey, due to my body being Estrogen Dominant, Soy was the first thing that needed to be stopped since it helps produce Estrogen. Soy anything can be devastating for those of us who have had breast cancer. I’m cancer free 9 years now and living my best life!
In place of Soy Sauce, I use Coconut Aminos, which are yummy great in place of Soy.
Keep sharing. I’m truly excited about trying some of your recipes.

You will only find pure stevia and monkfruit in liquid form. All sugar-like/spoonable forms will have erythritol or some other binder in it. So the Truvia you showed contains erythritol and the Sweetleaf you showed contains inulin (fibre) and silica, which there isn't anything wrong with that, but SweetLeaf also offers a liquid stevia if you can find it. I use the Now brand Better Stevia here in Canada. I haven't tried liquid monkfruit yet, but I have tried it in an erythritol blend and it tastes fine, but it's hard to distinguish from pure erythritol, so I plan to try the extract once I finish my stevia drops.

If you are using keto to lose weight, it works better not to eat fruit except for 1/4 cup of unsweetened berries maybe 3x a week. Also watch sugar alcohol sweeteners especially in amounts to make desserts. They have amounts of carbs that count up fast, despite the labeling. They can also cause nausea. In cream, look for carageen in the ingredients....it's a sugar. You can get cream without it. Truvia and some other mixed sweenteners have manathol or sorbitol, or one of the other sugars people don't know about. Watch your labels. Aspartame and Sweet and Low stimulate insulin. I recommend monkfruit. If you find yourself feeling low or fluish, you need salt, well, electrolytes. Good luck on your keto!

Thank-you very much! I always enjoy watching your videos. Wish you the best. As for that other class activity: I was in a somewhat similar situation; I didn't want to do a class segment, it wasn't required and I am confident with myself not to worry about what someone thinks when I chose not to join. The chanting it more a lung/breathing exercise--the dancing is to lossen the body's excess or staled energy. I firmly declined the dancing, unless it's in a club. As you grow on youtube, you will need a tough shield; so long as you are not hurting anyone, you need not worry about someone else's opinion of you.

I can see there is another purpose for the dancing and chanting which you may have overlooked. Sure, some class members are keen to collaborate in it believing it’ll them draw them closer to the yogic practice. But the clues to its real purpose are in your stated resistance to doing it. Have you considered that the dancing and chanting’s real purpose is to challenge a student’s idea of there being an “authentic” self? And that once that idea has been let go of (and the grip may be a powerful one) there could be something much more precious waiting behind it?

Personally it was kind of difficult to really appreciate the chanting class - especially when you do it in India, it is a big part of the course. I would often feel resistent to it and mentally float away in the midst of the class. As you already know Yoga was originallya a system of philosophy strewn with strong religious practices and I had to walk my own path to make peace with it. Clarity and being an authentic self was an important theme for me too, and I thought physically expressing it out to let people know was the right way to being authentic. Now I am learning that you can still be authentically yourself without fighting an inner conflict, that expressing out or not can be a conscious choice, that you can remain clear about what's yours and what's not but with awareness and maintained calmness of your mind you can still choose to be part of it. I can't say I succeed it 100% but at least I am aware that I try. The fine line between choosing not because one has to but wants to was the key for deepening my self-awareness and yoga practice, at least for me=) Hope you find your own way to make friends with whatever gets in your way! And once again, thanks for your amazing uploads and recipes!!

I like tofu and tempeh. I also love black soybeans which I use to make baked beans or Barbecue Beans. They are hard to find however. (No, I’m not vegan, or even vegetarian but good food is good food, and my body responds well to them. )
The problem with soy is what is done to it. I avoid all the highly processed junk, including soy oil. They claim it’s soy but…Hmm, not when the processors are done with it.

    Cashews have 27g net-carbs per 100g and fava beans have 60g net-carbs per 100g.

After a few month into keto, i do not remember exactly anymore the timeline i had Erythritol in something keto i backed and my body obviously thought it is sugar and responded with insulin release. I got quite dizzy and was not very far away from fainting. So i had a quite strong hypoglycemic response. So people take care with sweeteners.

This reminds me of a Christian Alpha course where people who are curious and maybe interested are invited to come along no strings. Prior to going in to the class they start singing hymns and playing piano. Im no stranger to church but it was completely wrong to expect non Christians to sing along! 😑 In addition there's huge focus on eating a meal with a bunch of strangers which in my view for many is very stressful. The meal is also advertised as "free" but then someone goes around collecting donations towards it. Maybe i take things too literally but again someone who cannot afford it or who's not prepared is caused embarrassment. One by one people drop out as the expectation of the leaders is heavy 😬. Dancing around frenziedly would bringe on a huge cringe panic attack in me. 😂

I have been on the vegan keto diet for a few weeks now and I feel great. But I have one concern: how do I make sure to eat enough protein? Since I can’t have soy I am afraid I am lacking protein.

Even though I am not a vegan, I am. trying to lose weight, so have cut out all unhealthy carbs and am fasting 23/1. I like watching your videos because you are so calm and soothing. I think you will make an wonderful yoga teacher-you probably are by now since this video is a year old now. I agree with the chanting thing-anybody should be able to say no if they are not comfortable with something. Thank you for sharing.

Putting in a Request! Keto mochi or dango? I was thinking soy flour (+ maybe soya pulp/okara, haven't tried it yet) might make give the correct consistency for this? I have not bought the ingredients yet to try myself, but if you figure this out for mochi then that would be super awesome!
Keto recipes are very catered to North America but not for foods/diets in other countries! Appreciate channels like yours that use foods native to other cultures.

A good teacher should never create a situation where a student feels uncomfortable once a teacher crosses this line he or she is no longer teaching but creating a situation where students wish to be some where else then this is no longer teaching .

correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't found any videos of yours on the topic of "refeeding" but then hearing you talk about eating fruit it sounds like it "works for you" exactly because you're naturally refeeding your stocks of glycogen when you need to which would be twice a month of even less. I love the fact that you can self-regulate sooo well ! and I hope people understand that this is what you're doing rather than going like, well Fan is eating all this fruit then so can I , because in actuality you're not leaving ketosis other than when your body needs to replenish those stores and then like you said "you don't feel fatigued but happy instantly". Our bodies are so complex and intricate, and instead of listening to them we just force stuff down our throats because we read this or heard that and I mean that's probably ok for maybe a couple of weeks just to get going and give your body a consistency but after that it will start to tell you what it needs and yet we choose to ignore it and stick religiously to whatever we're sticking, but yeah in the case of keto 4 - 6 weeks of religiousity would probably be good to get out of carbs addictions ^^ anywho, thanks for being your wonderful self and making keto fun for vegans as well !!

So interesting hearing you, Fan, speak about your experience of chanting. There's so much I could say really, so will try and be brief. Chanting came into my life in 2000 and at first I didn't understand it. The mind, the I, cannot. A chant of Hindu or Tibetan origin is a prayer. So chanting is praying. I would have thought your teachers would have given you a comprehensive background into it, along with the meaning of each one. My experience was at first strange too, my mind, like everyone's, wants to understand what is happening, but the mind is extremely limited. These prayers go beyond the mind to our source. The mind is a pin prick in compare to the unbounded consciousness of what we are. These prayers are gateways to that. Yoga is a spiritual path, not simply asanas. What happened for me was that, surprise surprise, I began to let my mind's interpretation of it go, and my heart began to enjoy them.. and then, the prayers took me on an other wordly experience where I felt such joy through my whole being, with the mind then taking a back seat. No longer was I on the outside looking in, but on the inside and experiencing such beauty and bliss and connection. In fact, Yoga means 'Union with God' and if you look into yoga itself, there several arms to it, and when we encompass the whole of it, then we are open to this union. It is the union with one's own true Self. I can hear that anything with religious connotations is freaking you out a bit, but this goes beyond ritual and religion. Yes, make your choices along the way, it's important. But they are transitory. They are open to change anytime, and a path is a path.. it keeps on moving and we discover more of ourselves along the way. But watch your mind and it's ideas, it's not always telling the truth, it's very good to question it sometimes. I do understand, and send you so very much love. Jay

This link may also be of interest regarding Soy products used in the Burger King Impossible Burger: nourishingtraditions.com/impossible-burger-soy-disgusting/

    • @chele8893
      @chele8893 4 года назад

Here's a condensed version of the link above: The anti-nutritional factors in soybeans include protease inhibitors (inhibit protein digestion, cause swelling of the pancreas), saponins (cause agglomeration of red blood cells) lectins (interfere with digestion), estrogens (cause hormone disruption), goitrogens (depress thyroid function), cyanogens (degrade to cyanide in the digestive tract), phytate (blocks mineral assimilation), oligosaccharides (indigestible for humans, cause diarrhea and flatulence) and antigens (cause allergic reactions). Processing may reduce the levels of some of these compounds, but never all of them. They are there in spades-along with lots of glyphosate residues-in a product Brown calls “healthy” and “safe.” (An analysis by Moms Across America found that the Impossible Burger tests eleven times higher for glyphosate weed killer residue than the Beyond Meat burger, made from non-GMO peas.)

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT AND WHATEVER ANIMALS THE ANIMALS EAT...If it has 20 carbs and 16 fiber then deduct the fiber from the carbs and that's the number and why you do not juice and destroy the fiber so it's just sugar. Get a glucose meter and test those high carb meals like pasta, bread, rice and potatoes and definitely sugar which are four to watch and see what works for you, eat real food and avoid processed and additives which seems to be what it's all about with all these diets. The animals are sick and inhumanely processed, Monsanto has everyone spraying everything with Roundup and even the organics are being affected but I do know this, FOOD is the cure and disease to most all deadly conditions and illnesses killing us.
