Good cold morning for you guys Alan. Must be good to get out after the lockdown, i see everyone has the same idea, would be hectic at the boat ramps. That's the same size outfit that i use up in Moreton Bay Qld for the smaller snapper or pinkies, certainly is a lot of fun. Good session for you guys.
Thanks John , yeah its so nice to finally be out of lockdown the last 24 months sure has been challenging in VIC. The combo is exceptional, surprising how many others have the same combo. I really rate it. Perfect combo for pinkies.
Glad you enjoyed it Darren, we always have fun out there even when it gets tough. And some natural ability talking to the camera with your snapper catch. Was very well done mate
Thanks 👍 Martin, yeah it wasn't the biggest snapper but i think it was pretty special to catch a fish like that on very light gear. Next ill be looking for some upgrades
great vids as always bud. Also Any idea what bigger rod combo your looking at buying as mentioned in the vid. I'm in process and havent got a clue. Lol
Thanks John, im actually having a custom 3-7 kilo rod made up for me. Its going to be 6 foot 10 in length. I feel that is going to be a great weight class and length when on the kayak or boat chasing snapper but not too heavy as you will also catch plenty of pinkies inbetween. I hope that helps
Hi Finlay, congrats on the kayak purchase. On the kayak its pretty easy to catch many pinkies, its a bit more challenging getting snapper. It requires some decent hours on the water and i find soft plastics and a half decent sounder to be a great way to target them on the yak. There some really good spots that produce snapper more than others during this time of year.
@@fishingmad thank you that helped alot. i bought some zman 2.5 grubs about two weeks ago and seem to be working well with the flathead but not pinkies. any ideas why, do i need to go further out? also i do not have a fish finder is it essential?
Yeah we were on the drift when we caught these. It was a very calm day and drifting very slow. No issues with jig heads just worked them like normal. Didnt need to change the weight just 1/8 or 1/6
You don[t need to go far out at all just beyond the marine sanctuary which is easily reachable in a kayak. I have fished there on a yak many times, just be mindful of the zones and watch the heavy boat traffic in peak times.
Nice little snapper mate, I got the same Millerod/Twinpower combo as you a while ago, got a nice solid 4kg snapper on it and it handled beautifully. Hopefully some bigger Snaps to come!
Thanks mate!!! Im loving the combo it feels so nice in the hand and the twin power FD has really surprised me just how nice it is. How have you found the combo ? Thats a great catch 4kg snapper too, well done !!
@@fishingmad Ive been using high end combos for a while, one of my other combos is the Edge Black Widow with another Twinpower, and mate the Millerod blanks live up to their reputation. Im very picky with blanks and the Millerod blank feels great. If i had to pick something out the shorter butt hurts the wrist a bit when fighting bigger fish as it was made to fish structure and tight spaces but overall great rod. Also I never buy two of the same reels but I did with the Twinpower cause I love it, prefer it over the Certate which I originally had.
Yeah all very good points, must admit i feel exactly the same. The Millers rods are very nice and crisp, ive added a couple more to the arsenal too. The Twin Power FD is a magnificent reel, Suprised me just how much I like it and i too prefer it over many reels i through i wouldnt. Might have to buy another aswell LOL
I just finished a detailed 2 hour workshop on following snapper movements in our members area. Usually early season we see plenty caught between 6-10 meters deep and than as the weather gets warmer they often go deeper. At the moment were seeing catches inconsistently all over the place. Id be starting between 6-10 and moving deeper if you dont get catches early on.
Hi David, Black Rock boat ramp has paid parking, but decent launching access and quick access to good size fish. The parking fills up quickly, if you have a trailer so need to get in fast, and just need to make sure you dont have your rods out when going across the marine park
Thanks Jake, both fish were caught on the drift, was very slow for us anchored, but could only drift during the middle of the day when the boat traffic wasnt insane.
@@fishingmad yes after seeing the next one you guys caught I think they may even be larger than 3 to 4 times that size. I wish I could attach a photo of a large Cape Snook.
Hey just a tip for whoever stabbed the brain to discard the fish, wrong spot, he's not fully dead. Follow the lateral line down the fish's body, and its about a finger or two behind the eye. You know when you get it because they flip out for a second then no more. Not trying to sound rude or anything
Can I come fishing with you? Went to the same spot you went to at warmies and lost 10 rigs in 15 mins, every cast was a snag..... Never going back there again Maybe it's just me or I need to try new areas
Im looking to organise a few days out on the water with FishingMad members as a meet and great and also help people with some tips and techniques when out on the water. The warmies is a very snaggy area, try altona or campbells there a lot more sandy flats and rarely snag up.
Loved this! Go back again and see if you can get another!
Thanks !! Yeah im super keen to go back even with all the crazy boat traffic
@@fishingmad yeah definitely worth it!
Yeah will do soon 100%, weather not looking so great this week apart from Wednesday which sux as im working LOL
Beautiful snapper, Alan! And on light gear, you the master!
Thank you !! love the comment

Great work mate u did it hard during lockdown but utmost respect to the craft. You deserve everything coming ur way
Thank you so much Paul, its a really kind and positive comment which I greatly appreciate.

@@fishingmad how deep would you recommend fishing for snapper? Torn between 5 meters or 15

great video, is the snapper bag limit 10 per person?
Bag limit of 10 but only 3 can be over 40cm cheers fishingmad.com.au/specie/snapper-fishing-guide-victoria

New boat mate.
I wish, this is my mates Stabi and its a beauty
Real awesome video Alan 👌🏼 beautiful fish you caught down there
Thanks 👍 Jared, yeah it sure was. The volume of boat traffic was insane but the catches memorable. Hope you have been fishing too
I’m going out fishing with a mate hopefully on Sunday at Werribee south if the weather holds up
Good luck !! I hope the weather is OK for you. Werribee should be starting to fire up now. Lots of flatties
Yea hopefully we have some luck
Good fish and video mate are you guys on drift catching these fish or anchored up?

Nice 👌

Snook best eating fish if they are 3 to 4 times larger than that one. Cape Town South Africa that is a prised fish at the markets. Yum.
Ahh, thanks for letting me know. Would love to see one 3 or 4 times bigger than that. Would be a scary sight
