Geno just wants to be liked by black people so hes just making talking points along Sheryle Swoops line trying to water down the white girl as to not disrespect the WNBA in other words disrespect black people. Hes got a roster full of young ladies some of which or many of which are black and some of whom are following leftish trigger party lines. the pain point is that a white girl made some bread so what about the black girls that were there before. Has not aged well... she is at the top of every scouting report, has been on triple double watch last several games and suceeded in garnering a win over NY while chalking upo the first triple double for rookie (none of the other 1000 rookies ever did that - including all his UConn plebs). First WNBA player to account for 66 total offensive points in a game (pointsplus assists) .... Seems like in the goodold days Geno DEFINED and SELECTED NCAA and therefore WNBA talent pool. He is spot on. My problem with Clark is that people act like she is the MvP already. She needs to get stronger, she also needs to learn to drive and finish with left hand. Right now she is a two trick pony. A step back 30+ foot jumper, pump drive with her right. She will throw the dimes no doubt, but right now her turnovers negate her assists. Her defense which hardly anyone talks about is brutal. In college she had free reign and the entire offense revolved around her, now she will be expected to facilitate more. In watching her I have been surprised at how she has seemed so average from an athletic standpoint. Time will tell how successful she will be……but in saying that Taurasi at her peak was a far superior player in almost every way minus the 30ft jumpers.

Why is it impossible for anyone to have an honest, unbiased take on Caitlin? She's not built for the physicality of the league? Yes, she will get stronger, but she's already had two 30-point games. Her stats as a rookie are comparable to Plum's and Ionescu's this year, better in some categories, but Geno makes it sound like Caitlin's not viable yet. I guess he's saying that she's failing to meet ridiculous expectations, but he makes it sounds like 13th in scoring and fourth in assists as a rookie is failing.

Not sure you get his context. I agree with him 100% and trust me I'm a huge Caitlin Clark fan. I've been watching her for years. I was born an Iowa Hawkeye. Literally. I was born at the University of Iowa. So love CC. She took the program to a level never before reached, and likely never to be seen again. But I agree with Geno. I think his take is, they are calling her the GOAT on day one. She WAS the college GOAT. She's done nothing in the WNBA to earn that yet. And she's not built for the physicality of the league, because college wasn't like that. So I agree. But I'm positive, when it's all said and done, she will own as many WNBA records as she does in college. I hope she finally gets a title(s) she's so deserving of. She will get stronger. She will thrive.

@RSDudeLA Yeaaaahhhhhhhh!!!! We coined that phrase somewhere between the 2023 and 2024 NCAA tourneys as people were coming in droves to Seattle or Albany, Dallas, or Cleveland. Every game that Iowa played, the arenas were SRO!! It was crazy because it was happening during the regular season as well. 2022-2023 saw Carver-Hawkeye starting to sell out games, in 2023-2024, season tickets for Carver sold out within 4 hours, and almost every road game that Iowa went on sold out as well. If not the home crowd, fans of Iowa were travelling to the games. Everywhere you went there were CC jerseys, t-shirts, sweatshirts, no matter where the girls went. So the term "Caitlin Clark Effect" was coined, and it hasn't gone away.

It began with Angel back in April of 2023, not 2 years as she has told the media and everyone. I guess she didn't learn math at either Maryland or LSU. Caitlin has MANY MORE high up people in her corner, and it has much less to do with her game play, it's because she is a hard worker, she is humble, she is passionate, she embraces her fans and takes every opportunity she has to sign autographs or be in selfies, she has a heart bigger than the size of Iowa, she is kind, she is a Christian, and when you add all of those things up, you have her DNA. She's not going to give up, and she can trash talk with the best of them, I think it was the Michigan State game when announcers said there were cameras on her from just about everywhere in the arena, and they caught 2 things that made me laugh so hard. She was walking towards the half court line and let out with a loud F*CK!!! Later on, she was saying something to someone, and when you read her lips, the one thing I could make out was that same word but there was more to it. I'd have to go back and watch the game again to be sure. She loves playing basketball, so they can do what they want, she will keep taking the higher road. It's how we roll in Iowa.

I don't think disrespect to WNBA players was intended. Fans (like me) really just want to see Caitlin succeed and provide the excitement and fun they had with her in college. Yeah, we got a wake up call and it will take some time. Honestly what disturbs me most is the violence that's seems masked behind the concept of a "physical" league. Caitlin is the WNBA's Michael Jordan moment. If you want all the new fans to keep watching, you better be prepared to clean things up.

Perhaps not from you, but there was a lot of disrespect actually intended from a lot of new fans who said Caitlin was gonna dog-walk the entire league the moment she declared for the draft. In high school when he recruited Paige he downplayed Caitlin... when Caitlin was breaking all the NCAA records he and the UConn alumni kept saying to the press... If Paige Bueckers had not gotten injured it would be Paige breaking all the records not Caitlin. Geno and UConn alumni at ESPN and in WNBA were always trying to downplay Caitlin and build up Paige. But people could see for themselves and became fans of Caitlin Clark. Time for all of them to stop. Paige did not break the records Caitlin did... and now Paige is taking another year atUConn to try. Im not talkinig about being hit with dirty moves from the other team. I'm talking about the way that the defenses are playing Caitlyn. The way that they full-court press Caitlyn, the way that they shadow Caitlyn after she passes the ball to someone else, and the way that they double-team Caitlyn when she gets the ball back. They do this to Caitlyn all game and when they are up 25-30 points. Tbh I wouldnt be surprised if they play Caithlyn the same way next year (meaning its not a rookie hazing thing). I think the defenses are playing her the way they are because of the favor that she is getting and the eyes that she is bringing to the wnba. She played against the Mystics the WORSE team in the league. Everyone dropping 25+ on them. Chennedy carter dropped 25 on them off the bench in like 25 mins the game before caitlin.Caitlin will have good games but she's has a lot of work to do. She gets ripped way too much and her defensive is pretty bad. He's the best women's coach ever I'm pretty sure he knows what he is talking about. He's only been doing it for 45 years. Lol. How many national titles and gold Medals have you won? 😂😂😂

Paige is aggressive when she needs to be she doesn't force the game like Caitlin. That's why caitlin leads in turnovers because she forces her game a lot. Paige shoots 53 percent and over 40 percent from three by letting the game come to her and not forcing shots. I'd take paige who is more efficient and a better defender over Caitlin any day. Caitlin is a james harden type player ( higher usage, ball dominant, volume shooter can't defend, high turnovers) and Paige is more of a Kawhi ( smart shot selection, aggressive when needed, high fg percentage, good defender, can score inside out).

Wow! Rebecca Lobo and Diana Turasi won't like this coming from their former coach? What Caitlin Clark needs to do is to get a trainer and begin a weight lifting program to build up her upper torso and legs. Michael Jordan had to do that to endure the physicality of the Detroit Bad Boys Pistons. Lambeer was the main destroyer on the team. Including Isaiah Thomas and Dumars. After that Michael Jordan had no more problems with the Bad Boys Pistons. They were retired from winning any more Championships. MJ went on to win 6 rings. Caitlin can do this during the off season.

Today, UConn's head coach Geno Auriemma appeared on the Dan Patrick Show to lend his discourse on Caitlin Clark's struggles in the WNBA, and the target that has been put on her back. The coverage of the WNBA, and the controversies in the past couple news cycles surrounding Caitlin Clark's treatment by WNBA players as well as the excessive and, at other times, unnecessary targeting by Chicago Sky's Chennedy Carter, and others have addressed many tough conversations being had around race and sexuality. And the fact that a league which has been dominated primarily by African American women have raised many eyebrows regarding the hard fouls that aren't being called by officials, which led up to the latest debacle on Saturday at the Commissioner's Cup game when the Sky's guard Chennedy Carter, after having made a previous bucket against Clark, then hip checked and knocked her to the floor when there was no play on the ball, and Clark was waiting to receive the inbound pass. Carter clearly targeted Clark, and it was not a basketball play. Yet, there were certain big name celebrities cosigning this obviously bad behavior by Carter, which is also indicative of the bad behavior that many black women also cosign and tolerate when it comes to our career criminals living among us in our neighborhoods.
Those "new" fans that Geno Auriemma for which he seems to have a succinct disdain due to the perceived disrespect to WNBA players also seems to want Iowa/Clark fans that have recently began watching the league to also pay homage to these OTHER players in the league based on the ground work that was laid by Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird all those years, and because the "new" fans only showed up to these games due to the popularity surrounding Caitlin Clark, "new" fans have been getting blasted for weeks by sports media, the gatekeepers, and many others around the league including racist longtime fans of the WNBA who have been trolling, harassing, and attacking Iowa/Clark fans all over social media, that have also chosen to speak out against the biases and unnecessary targeting of Caitlin Clark, who obviously came into the WNBA with an already built-in fanbase from Iowa when she first stepped foot on the basketball court as a professional with the Indiana Fever. Nothing was ever handed to Caitlin Clark. She still had to grind to go back-to-back Final Four appearances and national championship games despite what any fans who blitzed Iowa Women's Basketball Twitter X account ever said positive or negative about her as a player, her volume shooting, her logo 3s, her defense, and even the praise heaped on Clark while she was still playing at Iowa should never have been seen as a negative but apparently, many jealous players and coaches saw it that way! It was still her style of play, and the Iowa women's basketball uptempo offense that drew many to the games beginning in Clark's freshman year at Iowa. The sports media discourse surrounding the Angel Reese taunting of Caitlin Clark at the 2023 national championship game also brought even more eyes. Denigrating the Clark/Iowa fanbase does not negate personal responsibility to protect these players from cyberbullying and harassment!
As an 11-time NCAA Division 1 national champion coaching the UConn Huskies, and mentor to some of the greatest players that ever graced the program, Coach Auriemma has the ultimate duty and responsibility to call out racism and discrimination against any player -- not just Caitlin Clark! Scapegoating Iowa/Clark fans for the intentional bullying of Clark by jealous players and their longtime WNBA fanbases who have chosen to target her due to her race and the attention she's received all those years at Iowa is an act you should have openly condemned way back then instead of condemning Clark/Iowa fans now who followed her career into the WNBA, and who have done what we could with the little platform that some do have to condemn racial prejudice and discrimination within a league itself, primarily dominated by African American women, many of whom are great players. But their time in the league was not able to draw the huge crowds, mainly Middle America, the Bible belt comprising a lot of casuals who were not following the WNBA for many years due to a myriad of reasons. If anything, you can blame black women for not supporting the WNBA in the manner that many vets would like to have seen happen sooner rather than now. But we're here now! Since we're here now, why target the young girl who brought in her "new" fans to a league that had only grown incrementally over the past several years and because of your own claim of perceived disrespect to WNBA players? Do you want your league to grow or not?
Continue supporting not only Caitlin Clark but also the W. However, I will never be disingenuous about what is happening just to appease WNBA players' egos. For too long, certain people have been allowed to get away with racial harassment in the workplace, and people in powerful positions that could affect positive change chose not to. Therefore, here we are today having regular discourses surrounding what appears to be unnecessary targeting actions against Caitlin Clark, much of which is racially-motivated and also jealousy. We must condemn racial hatred and bigotry no matter which face it presents. The black sports community on social media has allowed racial prejudice and bigotry to cloud their judgment surrounding the public discourse on Caitlin Clark's WNBA career and popularity.
For centuries, my ancestors alongside white abolitionists condemned not only human trafficking & slavery, but racial crimes and discrimination, Jim Crow laws and prejudice only to turn around in the 21st Century and see racially-motivated and hateful, vile messages being sent directly to Caitlin Clark, Christie Sides, Lin Dunn, and others that can not only lead to huge consequences, but also impact their safety and well-being.
Over the past year, I have experienced hatred and bigotry not only directed toward me for being a Caitlin Clark/Iowa fan but also a couple friends that I've texted back and forth with who are also Iowa/Clark fans have been racially attacked by many Gamecocks fans, UConn fans and, in recent weeks, longtime WNBA fans on social media. Talking trash about the "new" fans claiming new fans doesn't know the game of basketball at all DOES not negate Geno Auriemma's personal responsibility to call out targeting racist acts being committed against Caitlin Clark! If you do NOT condemn racism and bigotry against a minority group in the W, then you are just as much part of the problem.
Hey, Geno! Caitlin Clark fans and Iowa fans don't wait outside hotels and team buses to harass Chennedy Carter, Angel Reese, the Chicago Sky, etc. I don't know any Clark/Iowa fans harassing and stalking Angel Reese and Chennedy Carter outside of hotels and team buses!
    The End

@SisterNoble, that was the most articulate, and accurate description of what has gone on for Caitlin Clark since entering the W, yet day after day, she plays the game with the attitude of "I'm going to play the game I love", complete with smile until she gets beat down a few times. Then she fakes the smile, knowing it's the only way she can wake up and face it again the next day, and so it goes day after day. I'm a "new" fan, still trying to learn the rules that are different from NCAA, feeling the pain of what is happening to Caitlin compared to the other rookies in the league. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and brilliant thoughts. I couldn't agree more.

He's correct the actions of several have proven she's definitely a target. The extreme expectations ppl also need to cool it and take a dose of reality and give her and all these rookies grace. The primary issue with over physicality is on the refs, the league and commissioner & with time that will be adjusted.. because if it's not, and zero is done, they can watch the W's numbers dwindle into tragedy yet again. It's not the style of basketball that all the ppl who've been following the NCAA now have indicated and been surveyed have stated they prefer to watch. The overly physical, body checking, hooking/hanging on, clotheslining, flagrant fouling or cheap shots isn't it. That kind of "physicality" requires zero talent, skill, agility at an elite level that ppl want to watch. That's a reason the W has had so much trouble building their fanbase over the years & getting more ppl to want to watch. Because there is too much of that. It slows down the game remarkably and just isnt fun to watch. The college/ncaa game has had its numbers for a reason and It's the main reason they've stated they love watching Clark in fact, her style of play. One major thing Geno fails to acknowledge here is that the *majority of Clarks fanbase, the real bball followers, long time Iowa followers of her game etc.. aren't the "delusional", extremist ones. And that needs distinguished and clarified a lot more these days apparently... It's the same as with any other major sports team throughout history. The haters are *ALWAYS the loudest, never forget that. And You can't generalize an entire population/group of millions of ppl.. now referring to Clark's total following into the tens of millions *globally, (and that is data based ) into an exact same type of opinion, behavior, or "fandom". One would think Geno would be wise enough to state this part, but that is something needing clarified. He's also wrong in stating Clark was "with the wrong team" when she chose Iowa..or that DT suggested it (not surprising) as they're alllowing their egos and/or bitterness in Geno's case from his former choices to show there. Clark wouldn't have been able to develop into even half her game in totality that she was able to at Iowa that set her apart from the entirety of the NCAA, had she played for a coach like Geno, taken Notre Dame's offer, etc. That Coach & System and culture at Iowa, that style in totality, was the BEST decision Clark ever made for the development of her game. The rest will be developed with time and work just like every other rookie & great has done. They definitely underestimate how smart Clark is constantly but that seems to be a pretty common thing from those who aren't long time followers of hers or understanding there. Geno is correct in stating the obvious, that Clark doesnt deserve this treatment, the physical targeting or hateful speech even by those in the sports profession. None of them do. Clark will be just fine though in the long run, just as all the best have adapted and adjusted. She will too. & Ya'll just wait until she gets reeeeally comfortable, with her team & coach situation too, whoever and wherever that resolves to over time, and she will. 😁

If she was guarded like a rookie, those numbers would be closer. What she gets is a playoff energy defender face guarding her full court or at least at half court. Most double blitz then any other team let alone single player. Hardest schedule facing top 3 teams of the league multiple times. 11 games in 20 days. This isn't rookie adjustment time numbers, because she isn't close to being guarded like a rookie.

I disagree with Geno's assertion that those who suggested that CC was a candidate for MVP before she played her first game were being disrespectful to the rest of the WNBA. I'll remind him of the press that Colorado U football received after winning their first three games last season. For example, 60 Minutes did a feature that gushed over Deion Sanders and how he rebuilt the program. Colorado went on to win a grand total of one game in their remaining nine games. Was 60 Minutes being disrespectful to the rest of the big-time college football world? Did they give college football a bad name? No, they were just naive. And the same thing applies to some of CC's fans.
