High school 1988-1991 REDFORD HIGH DETROIT MI. IF a person made it to TELEVISION BACK THEN. IT made guys like this LOCAL STARS overnight. This is when RAP AND DANCING were simultaneous off-rip.
Got your LP in 1997 over here in Germany by coincidence. "You Can't Hold Me Back" showed me the greatness about Rap music. Coming from Metal, Blues, Rock, Punk,.. i wasn't that enthused about Rap music before. Tracks like Frankly Speaking, Executioner Style helped and were a good cure to understand the game coming from an outer perspective. Thanks for your music and honesty. Peace, Jan
Damn mannn! I forgot all about the Latin Quarters, those were the days. Gyaaahhht damn we are old as hell now. I wish I could go back to those days. Kick Ass!!!
OMG!! What has these brothers been up to? I remember getting their CD and taking it back to Texas back in the late 80s early 90s time frame. This group was cool.
Yo ... I'm from Flint and Awesome Dre laid the foundation for Michigan rap. Dude had RHYMES. His word patterns were ILL. I often wondered how much influence he had on Eminem. I also always wondered what his beef was with LL Cool J and Kool Moe Dee. Dre if you still on here, answer that for me.
Man.....I never saw this video! I had this album on cassette back in 89’ I’m a Michigan native as well (Grand Rapids) and AD was the first Michigan rapper that I ever saw break out nationally, made us all proud! He helped kick the door open for those that followed (Esham, MC Breed, ICP, Kid Rock, Eminem, etc.) As a humorous observation, looked pretty windy during that video shoot replicating the album cover, haha! That had to have been a pain in the ass depending on how many takes that took. Good to see you back in the game, man! Keep dropping that new flavor If you can pull Kid Rock out of Nashville and get those other D-town legends together, you guys should make a supergroup album, droppin’ science on those cats today who need to hear it. Big ups!
He has my favorite rhyme in all of rap and I use it to this day....Beat ya down somewhat bodacious, make your mama wanna say good gracious. LOL from Top Choice lol
Since 83 i did dance tec my own rap to instrumentals wack as hell.my breakout songs under the mistletoe 96,hands on the trigger" remix of my 88" demo psycho all took place in Atlanta thanks to dayton family, top authority outkast freaknic and the west coast east coast beef. But doing esham type rap in the bible belt where sex toys and porn was illegal na kid i sold noda by time i came back to detroit in 2000 Marshall and kid rock n icp ruled.i lovem all b detroit city 4-life.
This is great. AD was so underrated, he should have blew up on priority.he was a better lyricist than any of those gangsta rappers, the thing I think that kept him from gaining a wider audence is being from Detroit,bc back then,Detroit had no one nationally known back then, kid rock was still 2 years away, the kr that was straight up hip hop, when he was touring w ice cube, too short,d nice, etc
Yo the first time I heard Dre was when I was going to oak park high in the 80s and a guy from royal oak township was like check out the song by this rapper named awesome Dre and the song was fire
Hip Hop was all about competition back then. LL and Moe Dee were top of the food chain and were targets for rappers trying to make a name for themselves. I'm from SoCal and was always looking for new, dope shit in the record stores back then.
Im crying laughing cause i was apart of Michigan early hip-hop we had zero identity we bit off nyc cali rappers until we got our nitch which they call acid rap we had tracks good songs but no identity influence on emenim basics id say each other we had bizzare straight jacket records esham boy esham.i was mc.kill coming from Saginaw
Awesome Dre a True Detroit OG
What up Doe! I remember seeing Awesome Dre, Smiley, Papa J. Smoove, Prince Vince and K-Stone at the Brotherhood Club on Livernois. Word.
A true legend! These rhymes are timeless. Long live Hip Hop!
