Imagine yourself recording and uploading daily! whole bunch of work... when do you have time for editing those videos? When do you searching for new records? When do you sleep?
I’ve been DJing for about 25 years now and I still learn from your vlogs. Yes kids you’re always learning and developing. How about an in my mind vlog on old school tracks? This would make an old timer like me very happy 😀 AJ
It was harder to learn to mix as you had to work the BPM out for yourself however I have utmost respect for new and upcoming DJs as there is so much good talent out there. Despite technology giving you the BPM and the controversial “sync” button, the DJ still has to choose the next track, work the EQs, mix in phase etc. Although Luke’s skills are through the roof. This guy is phenomenal technically. Respect ✊
Andy James - I hear you, brother. I started back in 1983, took a long break, got back into it almost 2 years ago. I am constantly learning & I love the new technology. I wish I had the stuff I have now back in the 1980s-1990s. Those crates of records was a bitch back in the day. LOL!
Thank Luke for the "Train of Though" style mix. This helps us figure out what were doing right and need to work on from a mental processing point. So cool to literally see inside your head!
Hi Luke! Thanks for the vlogs. I've been following you for a year now. Your tip for bedroom mixing made me order 2xRCA->3,5mmFemaleJack-converter so I can use my plugs with headphones while everyone else is asleep at my home. I'm dedicated dad too (two girls, 12yo and 1yo). Running simultaneously full day job at telecom industry and running own company where producing music and practicing to be a DJ during nights (when I'm not too tired, so actually not that much now). So the silent version of DJ controller use was really good tip for me since most of my own-time is after ten pm when there is needed to be quiet at the house. So now I can bang the best house tracks without disturbing rest of the house :D
Hey man, I've always had a lot of respect for you dutch veterans even though I listen to techno only, but this is simply a masterclass and quite a surprise that your roots are techno... So generous with your knowledge filled vlogs and your time, you're like the yoda of electronic music, a true magician... Would love to hear a good techno set from you live on the old continent!
Holy crap, this is so similar to how I mix already! Then again, I picked up a lot of what I know from watching others, and picking and choosing what sounded best to me, and you were one of the first channels I watched. I learned so much just from watching and analyzing what you do on-stage and in-studio. Even though it probably would never happen, it'd be a dream come true to do a B2B with you. I'd love to see a lot more techno from you. Even though it isn't what I normally mix, I want to move over to it when I can. All I can say is that it's interesting mixing electro house as though you would techno.
I appreciate the effort you put into these videos (mixing and re-watching/editing to explain what you're actually doing). You're helping to produce the DJ's of tomorrow, keep up the great work!
heres question for next vlog: what you think about electronic music thats leaked to internet by workers at label/recording companies (recently label monstercat made statement in their subreddit about starting to investigate huge music leak happening in monstercat every time new track comes around). nowdays its not just ripping from CD since most EDM is shared as 320kbps mp3 or lossless wav, it has to be someone inside label, and how mixmash records is preventing music leaks? have a lovely night/day you all
It could easily be happening through the promo list they have in my opinion, especially since I've seen it happen with other labels as well where they send out early promos to a list of people and suddenly tracks were online/ the people on the promo list were then sharing it. Before you know it a lot of people have it and it's online on YT/SC/other platforms for people to get
Just a theory here but is it possible that leaks are just a marketing strategy on the DL since you’re talking about it and thus I’m replying whereas I probably would’ve never even googled that song had you not mentioned it
Duuuuuuuuuude, you're amazing! I started listening to you from when I first heard your 2015 year mix on soundcloud, the tracks were not the most favourable for me but everyone has their taste, the thing that hooked me like a drug and made me a fan of you was the mixing, it was done so well and absolutely pleased me.. I had forgotten about you the past year but I'm very happy that I stumbled across your channel again and seeing you mix techno with the same mixing that hooked me in the first place is just a godsend! Keep up the good work and stay real in the industry by not abandoning your craft and talent! I'm sure to be coming back and back to listen you play :)
This is fantastic. I love when you do the "In My Mind" videos. You are truly an inspiration & DJ mentor. This is coming from a DJ that started in the early 80s. Thank you, sir!
This is the Laidback Luke I first got to know. Every once a while I listen to those old mixes and sets that you used to do. Love them. I love what you do nowadays but I can't front about it. I always respected your mastery of the craft.
I always wondered about this. It must take lots of planning when being booked in different countries. Do you just have availability for let’s says a few weeks in the US. And you only accept bookings in Asia for a specific time? This would help cut down on travel time like going back and forth on long flights. What happens when you get asked to dj on the same date? Do you pick the highest bidder? Or closer proximity to where you are coming from? So many factors come into play. Great techno set!
Daaamn LaidbackLuke!! You're spinning that shit better than some techno DJs! Love the variety you use in mixing! FTW!
