      +ny_kia31 Yeah, but I always sensed a lack of attachment. Ragnar and Lagertha don't show a natural passion for one another, just as much as they stay together. Personally, I don't think if it as a bad aspect to this sort of a show, though. If this is what was, then the makers of the show are more accurate for displaying history as it was.

      +Dan Zhukov you have to take warrior culture into account too. A man could be accused of loving his wife too much, very damaging to his name. Also, displaying too much emotion as a woman would not bode well for Lagertha either if she is to be respected as a sheildmaiden

    • @DanZhukovin
      @DanZhukovin 8 лет назад +3

      Cassandra Teal Yeah, that's true, too. It really is a novelty to see someone with a war complex, like many of the characters in this show, though. It's even a little inspiring, too, because you get a fresh perspective on the world today.

    • @recoveringintrovert717

      Dan Zhukov yes, the show really emmerses you in their culture, especially through Floki and Athelstan, you get a sense of the Viking mindframe. The ambition of men and women to gain fame on earth to be allowed to join Odin in Valhalla is pretty inspiring to watch, especially in Ragnar's case. He's beyond his time, too innovative for the age he's in.

    This scene is so good made hilarious by the ending (good job). Although yep, it's Ragnar who got owned.
    I've read the comments and it's quite interesting that this scene was interpreted in so many different ways.
    I think this is what the scene was conveying:
    Ragnar was making his point known about his tryst with Kwenthrith from the very beginning -- "she gave me some of her medicine"-- was not really code. He was plainly gloating about his tryst to fish for jealousy from her.
    He then immediately fishes to see if she's hooked up with Ecbert (alone with Lagertha for days, he knew Ecbert would try) but didn't quite expect that she'd go there. Keep in mind, although Lagertha remarried, Ragnar was never confronted with her romantic dealings with another man, so he quietly still feels ownership over her. His playfulness faded once she threw his game right back in his face-- "As did you"-- confirming that indeed, she had slept with Ecbert, just as he'd slept with Kwenthrith --a truth Ragnar was not prepared to hear, and clearly did not like. Joke's on Ragnar.

    Isn't this clip from an episode, in which Ragnar's first wife sleeps with Ragnar's principal rival/frenemy Egbert, Ragnar's second wife cheats on him with a complete stranger/Rasputin wannabe/Odin, even Athelstan gets it on with Wessex princess, and Ragnar gets literally pissed on by Queen of Mercia. In this context I fail to recognize Ragnar's ability to own anyone.

    He’s jealous...and yeah hinting about getting it on with that princess was an attempt to make her jealous. As with all his insults to her, it goes back to being butthurt she left him.Though he didn’t leave her a choice. And she worked her ass off farming that land. I never understood the lack of respect he showed to a loyal woman and comrade. Who saved his ass a few times. Can’t recall when he saved hers. Love Ragnar, I think he got a little mad as the show went on....I mean clearly by season 4 but well before that. His obsession with having sons, conquest, revenge.
    And yet in the very end all he wished was that he could go back to that little farm with her and their two kids, and of course Atherton.

      @@cringecat3614 I don't know if they ever delved too far into it but from what I've always understood is that the reason he didn't help her reclaim Hedeby is because the people never supported her claim to it. I mean, from what I've seen, her killing the Earl/Jarl there rubbed the people wrong and they hated her for it. Ergo, why it wasn't so much a problem for them when Kalf usurped her, because they supported him. And as far as I've seen it, Ragnar's the more analytical one between him and Lagertha, who is the more impulsive one and when he'd learned of her usurp, I assume he did, and learned that the people didn't seem to mind her being usurped, he knew helping her reclaim Hedeby without the people's support would create more issues than solve them. Not only for Lagertha but for Bjorn as well.
      So, while him not helping her seems shitty to us, the viewers, he simply did the more pragmatic thing that didn't cause needless deaths from either side.
      Then again, that's just how I understood it so you can take it with a grain of salt

      I think he started to lack respect for her when she had a miscarriage. It's of course not her fault, but I think given their culture, they see that sort of thing as a punishment from the gods. In the sagas, Lagertha leads him on then tries to kill him with her bear and dog. He marries her only to divorce her because he was still mad about her trying to kill him. Yeah three of them have a hairstyle that Ragnar has had at some point in the series.
      Ubbe has Ragnar's hairstyle from episode 1 of season 1, the long braid with some of the hair short and loose on top, and the short beard too.
      Bjorn has Ragnar's hairstyle and beard from season 2, where it's all braided and 'neater', and the beard is longer.
      and Ivar's hair in season 4 so far is relatively close to what Ragnar has here, though he lacks the matching beard.
      Hvitserk is kind of doing his own thing
      Sigurd seems to be ripping off Erlendur's hairstyle, but with a weird mullet-top. Looks stupid. If anyone's going to take on Ragnar's most recent bald and long beard look, Sigurd needs it the most I feel.

      @@vminkook6196
      I don't think they went through a real divorce. Ragnar just started putting his penis in other women, and other stuff. It's hard to speak against it after the fact, when the fact remains and I think in the mind, the fact that they went through the husbandry process, a marriage ceremony, etc. makes for something to be sensitive about.
      The justification for my more reactionary disagreement, I think, is that even if one thinks that he doesn't need to have such a tendril for these things, all occupations and walks of life are the more equipped for them, by necessitation. So it doesn't matter if you're more like a Gigantopithecus Blackii or more like Stephen Hawking, you would STILL need sensitivity because such a game DOES become outcome-influential, and very much the fact.
      The fact that these existing things made for this opinion necessitates the substantiality of such an opinion.
      But the meaning of "owned" in the title refers to a clear victory in the game being played between the two. Ragnar gets strict domination and strictly higher payoff BECAUSE he is keyed for that game. However, there ARE, will be, and have been women who can get into strategical, political, argumentative or physical games, and win fairly. It's usually the lesser who find this fact hard to hold in the mind.
      If anything I say be conjecturous, then the reader should chamber his response after the fact, not during, as to stop blocking it out.
      Q.E.D.

    I had to watch this scene several times over to try to figure out how or why the title would be called "Ragnar Owns the Sh*t Out of Lagertha. Based on what I watched, one of them seemed to have gotten simi owned (that be Lagertha) and the other got vaguely called out (the be Ragner), with no specifics on how or what he did to sacrifice him. Cause you see, Lagertha got whored out and promised a settlement by King "player" Eckbert who then had his men sack out her settlement later on down the road. On the other hand, am just not clear how or in what way did Ragnar sacrifice himself as well like Lagertha claims in her few words come back "so did you". I mean I don't know... cause I have heard it is better to get pissed off than to get pissed on. Perhaps that could be considered sacrificing himself if discovered later he got hepatitis C or the black plague (aka Aids) from her pissing on his wounds. But then again some folk are into that golden shower kinky stuff. Sooooo perhaps a win win for Ragner. Any way I digress. If there is to be an accurate label on who out of the two of them that got owned regarding the "settlement" topic, well title should be "King Eckbert secretly owns Lagertha and cleverly screws over Ragner", Cause he got the poo'tang from Lagertha, but the settlement sacked and he got Ragner's alliance, but Q K's naïve trust in him to keep her in power as queen of Mercia .

    • @dimaflorida9889
      @dimaflorida9889 8 лет назад

      Nor did I make the claim that Ragnar owned her.... thought I made that clear in my original post. I totally did not interpret their interaction as you did, but such a scene is subject to anyone's own interpretation. But am still sticking by it is the English king dude that own them both.. particularly lagertha being whored out and then the settlement she was promised sacked shortly after. Far as I am concerned both them are cut throat POS's...

    • @dimaflorida9889
      @dimaflorida9889 8 лет назад

    • @dimaflorida9889
      @dimaflorida9889 8 лет назад

      ...just because I am calling out the character depictions for who/what they are (whoring cut- throats) does not mean I am taking it personal. I just tell it how I see it in this case. Plus the History Channel is known for its portrayal of actual historical events. I guess this time around they decided to go GOT style (Game of Thrones). So even though this scene may not have actually gone down exactly as portrayed, it does not negate the actual Viking historical escapades of looting and cut throating foreign lands... and the fact that there are folk today that still admire such ancient culture as adventurous and or overcoming boredom despite no evidence of repentance of those atrocities thus far. Is probably why the Muslim extremest of today have practically looted, raped the women, and taking over these same Viking lands today....particularly Sweden....that's Karma for yah. And I agree, Rollo's character did improve after his marriage. It helps re-enforce the the saying "behind every good man is a good woman".
