I agree wholeheartedly. I feel like people are being waaaay too hard on this figure already. It looks like the best mainline Dinobot we've gotten to date. The MP still looks the best but it should as an MP. For $30, this figure looks fantastic IMO.
I agree with both of you. I've wanted a decent Dinobot that I can actually afford for a while. This figure will suffice.

Lack of paint aside, I think this figure will do it for me whenever I get it. I didn't grow up with Beast Wars proper so I'm not as hinged on show accuracy as others may be. It looks solid and that just does it for me : )
Not bad not bad to see a good version of Dinobot. Been in a bit of a Transformers mood since a friend told me that he just got through watching code of a hero and it's convenient that you're talking about the character of that famous awesome episode. Still soild review and Dinobot was a fantastic character!

Not gonna lie, I love Dinobot enough that the lack of paint aps don't really bother me. I'm just happy and thankful there's a good version I can buy that's not stupidly overpriced as the Masterpiece.
I went with the KO, only paid $90 and got one with decent sturdy joints

Comparing it to the masterpiece: it's close, but a kind of messy
Comparing it to literally ANY other dinobot toy: holy fucking shit this is amazing
Favorite character since forever. i cried when his part in Beast Wars ended.
BW has the better character building, compared to G1. G1 is just "how do we fork as many characters per episode to sell toys". BW does not have that. My favorite character arcs for G1 are Omega Supreme, Aerial bots, Combaticons. But so much is missing from those episodes as well. More in-depth on who the Combaticons were before being jailed for example.
BW does a great job of showing the rise of Dinobot as a character. He has a real samurai vibe. Same goes for Depthcharge and Rampage and their special episode. I like the thin line for Blackarachnia as well. Only a few characters are rather obscure filler like Terrorsaur and Scorponok. The CGI is outdated but the storyline isn't.
Funny enough his robot mode is very accurate to the show model I watch code of hero and watched your review and they are definitely not far apart from each other at least in robot mode
This guy was one of my favorite toys when I was a kid him and the stingray were two of the transformer toys that I played with all the time.
I grew up on the Beast Wars TV show.

Something I've seen some people say, is that the dinosaur mode is supposed to be "real world accurate" which doesn't make sense to me, the proportions look identical to the shows, I know he isn't a velociraptor, but I've never seen a raptor that looks like that
Dinobot looks really cool, I love the look of the robot mode and Raptor mode isn't terrible (actually looks better in the bright light). Hope they release him in the UK soon.
I think the lesson here is to buy an actual Dinosaur toy instead of using the Beast Mode. Maybe Transformers Red can do Beast Mode versions of the characters?
back when i collected the toys, i never saw the original Dinobot figure in the store, but i did see pictures from other packages. i knew it looked bad, but this figure does do a better job. i did get the Transmetal 2 figure, which i enjoyed a lot

Did you watch the japanese version of beast wars or the American version?
US version! (^.^) I'll ways try to watch the original language the show was made in. And I heard that the Japanese dub wasn't very faithful, making it far more comical than what it was originally.

Way better than the 90s version. So it’s good enough for me. I’m against spending on Masterpiece figures. I hope they come out with more Beast Wars figures even if they are not included in the new show.
I would love to get this figure, but I just see a lot of problems with it. The Dino mode, while not entirely bad, is very compromised, in my eyes doesn't have an excuse to be that bad considering the great kibble management of the 1st wave figures for their beast modes, especially with Cheetor, Primal, and Blackarachnia (still wish they could have done better with Megatron's robot mode, but the dino mode is so good on that figure).
Here, it just seems a little lazy. The legs are sticking underneath (kinda unavoidable) but I do wish that they were able to put him into a leader sized budget. Sure he would keep it in normal size which some may complain about, but it would have allowed for a larger budget for paint and engineering of the figure. Considering most of the paint went into the striped on the Dino mode (which can hardly be seen) and the stupid purple color of the sword (my major complaint fsr).
Plus, if they did make him a Leader size they could make an inclusion of one of the blasters he used during early S2 in beast wars and/or the Golden Disc for those display options as well as give him the higher budget for a greater figure. As is, this is a let down for me and probably a couple of others.
But, for the benefit of the doubt, the head is perfect.
The sad part is, these Kingdom figures have some really great beast modes. Dinobot's beast mode seems to be an afterthought compared to the others, which have the right amount of compromises for both modes. I'm still going to keep my pre-order because I love the character. I'll just keep him in robot mode despite the really long arms. I'll probably also take my silver Gundam marker and paint in some of those details.
I have no issues with compromise to the beast mode. The only posable figures so far seem to be Optimus Primal and Blackarachnia. The 2 others I have being Rattrap and Cheetor are rather blocky. Nothing to pose just a statue. Now you think perhaps Cheetor is posable, but that is only when you undo the sculpt of the hind leggs. And Cheetor is by far the weakest robot mode of the Kingdom Deluxe line. He is in my eyes filler. For the better figures like Primal, Blackarachnia and Rattrap.
@@dgray3771 Cheetor is definitely one of the weakest Kingdom figures. His articulation is what I would expect from a deluxe class. It's neither good nor bad, it's just ok. I do love his beat-mode however. His robot mode has grown on me, and I have him in a cool pose. I don't have Rattrap yet, but I'd imagine his articulation will be what I would expect from a small figure. Primal and BA are just miniature Masterpiece figures.
Dinobot's beast-mode is just not appealing to me. Hasbro and Takara could have done so much more to make it look better. They even did with the prototype image, so I'm also confused as to why they changed it. His robot mode is the only thing that saves the figure for me. Although, parts of me now wants to cancel the pre-order and wait for a Netflix repaint.
@@QuantaSolace Dinobot is lacking on purpose. Like most figures do. If they perfect him they take their ability away to make another 5/10 years from now. Like they do with other figures. Releasing a new obe every few years.
@@dgray3771 I can't buy that excuse. Some of these WFC figures are mini-Masterpiece figures in terms of their detail, transformation, modes, and articulation. You aren't going to improve those figures much more.

So even a beloved character such as Dinobot isn't spared from Hasbro's laziness... The figure itself is awesome, but the lack of paint on the legs is pretty off putting. I'll definitely be getting this figure, but I wouldn't be surprised if they release a Netflix version with more paint and accessories...for a higher price! :o
I think we will get more versions of this mold yes, as to get more out of the mold. This has been a pricey endeavour already for Has/tak. It is almost confirmed we get another Cheetor. I don't see what they can do with Rattrap or Primal neither Blackarachnia. Each of the BW characters is unique and people want that main cast. Unlike G1 with Datsuns, Seekers and 10 Sharkticons you can't sell multiple of the same with BW. Also in G1 there are distinct mold sharing characters like Ironhide & Ratchet or Red Alert & Sideswipe, Grapple & Inferno. BW does have some obscure characters, but they are toy only.
I wouldn't mind some new BW characters, or fleshing them out. But certain molds that I know have other characters, those molds I am not interested in like Cheetor. It is also why they threw in G1 characters that do have repaints that will sell, Huffer & Pipes, Scourge & Sweeps (though this is from SS86) and even the Cyclonus mold could be repainted to make Armada. A lot of people I know would love it.

@@Actar_Raikit yup. You were one of the lucky dudes! I got in touch with them, Isetan confirmed that their staff made a mistake and put them on the shelves and the supplier subsequently pulled them from the shelves. So, it was not sold out. Phew.

As much as I hate the dino hands, I know understand why they were made so long. It was so when folded up for robot mode, there wouldn't be a gap in its sides.

My debate so far I have Kingdom WFC Optimus and Blackarachnia, going for airazor, and voyager MP Tigatron...Now leader Trex Megatron or Voyager Dinobot Raptor? I pass on cheetor and ratrap.
I'd go with Dinobot as Megs does have that really big backpack.
So I'll end up with 5 maximals no predacons. Yes I know Blackarachnia was first a predacon, but with a maximal personality.

you know what, I don't care about the issues. Dinobot is my favorite BW character and since I'm not watching the Kingdom show it doesn't matter to me if he's supposed to be a new character or not. I'm still gonna get him
The sculpt and engineering are amazing for the size, but it desperately needs a better paint job, I fully understand and accept the limitations a toy of such a complex design will be up against, BUT they don't fully prioritize either mode, with both ending up compromised because it's completely impossible to satisfy both modes' color needs at the same time. I wish they had gone all out on ONE mode, so if the other wasn't as good, you could at least you could say "well, the Dino mode is lacking, but the Robot mode is perfect!" Or viceversa.

Weird things happen with Hastak distribution, I remember I bought Siege Micromasters Off Road Patrol several weeks before anyone reviewed it on YT...
It's most unfortunate that early renders/prototype shots are a lie, though it's not the first time Hastak pulls such dirty trick,
Not exactly a lie, prototypes do get shot and even have miss transformations or bad colors. On top of that, sometimes it is budget cuts later down the line. Though I admit it is happening much more the last few years than it did prior. I can't remember much being bad like this other than the issue with Motormaster & CW Prime having bad hip ratchets, which seemed to have gotten fixed in reruns of the figures. While my White Prime does have the newer hip ratchets.
@@dgray3771 Yeah, you're right, I guess proper word would be "misleading". Sometimes (rarely) it's good thing - in early pictures (renders?) Siege Chromia was depicted as repaint of PotP Moonracer/Firestar mould with new head which would be very disappointing. On the opposite, it's hilarious how Cyberverse deluxe Thunderhowl doesn't match neither pictures on the box nor the cartoon model in terms of colours :D.

The mold is great but the beast mode is way too dark and it messes up his robot mode as well. I don't see what is the point of going halfway to a "mini-masterpiece." Just do it or don't. Don't waste our time with this.

They'll never release the "perfect" figure for any character because that will mean future efforts will be thwarted. Look at the Datsuns, unsightly side panel for covering the hollowness, and clip-on unpainted wheels. Or with the Earthrise/Kingdom Prime, where the wheels are not the same and the front wheels are not painted. And certain paint apps he should have are not there.
Every figure is close to perfection but just not entirely.
If you take the Datsun brothers, their Siege counterparts actually have better wheels and painted guns. Still the figures from WFC are the best we got so far. And I gladly add Dinobot to my collection.
