  • 2000s digital cameras, digicams, point and shoot digital cameras have made a come back and are very popular amongst Gen Z. Gen Z has taken these old 2000s digital cameras and made it the hottest gadget amongst Gen Z. Digicams are another way of saying 2000s digital point and shoot cameras that were the camera to have for millennials. The technology may be old, but that doesn't mean they're any less fun to use to get some cool photos. These cameras have gotten popular in the last few years due to a variety of factors including the return of indie sleaze and y2k.

    I'm hoping that the current digicam trend will lead camera companies to start selling decent quality compact cameras again (more than just the crazy expensive ones with larger sensors).

      It might work if they give it a retro style.

    • @DrLuisAlbertoParra

      I think part of the popularity is that they cost almost nothing so this gen Z can buy them. So having camera companies to sell again cameras that are that cheap and GOOD, seems unrealistic to me. Either they will make trash or something good and dunno if gen x will spend the extra money and not looking “cool” with an “original vintage” one.

    Didn’t really know about the popularity of old digicams among gen z, but fun to hear and hope it catches on further. For me, they rather bring back the era when you were first starting to shoot digital and it’s fun to rediscover those cameras. Like you say, they tend to have more personality than newer ones that are more streamlined and more focused on megapixels. Many of the mid 00-10 are surpringsingly capable, including having optical viewfinders which is both retro and handy.😉Keep it up!

    I am 27. I have fond memories of using my parents' 1997's Panasonic VHS camcorder, and then I remember later they upgraded to one of those early 2000s digicams. Like you said, it depends on the time you grew up in.

    Gen Z here. I always loved photography since I was a kid and taking photos with your phone is boring. Sure, it's great because you have it at all times but it's nowhere near as fun as an actual camera. I have more fun and connection taking photos on an old 4 megapixel camera than my phone. Yes I know it's not as good, yes I know I'm more limited, but I don't care. I find myself more present in the moment when taking photos with a camera, regardless the quality. Heck, I even want to try out roll and instant cameras but the refills are quite expensive 😅

    • @nicomadic6479
      @nicomadic6479  Год назад +2

      Honestly that is one of my reasons I prefer separate cameras over phone cameras. As long as you’re having fun that is all that matters!

    You’d be surprised by a 2MP camera. I have a DC290 and it’s awesome. I think smartphones have gotten worse with the processing. I’ve taken photos with my 3GS and say how does a 3mp iPhone have better looking photo & video to me then my SE 2 & SE 3. It’s the software, plus apple has been having problems with the camera app as of late. Something with the post processing.
    That’s something we see a lot of today is a lot of editing to photos.
    I use my m42 lenes on my Rebel T7 granted my edits aren’t heavy but boy it’s so much fun.

    I think it has something to do with CCD sensors. A lot of photographers still like their old DSLR cameras with CCD sensors.
    Also a lot of people are hunting down the first gen Fuji X-Trans sensors cameras.
    There is a old saying what was once old is new again.

    • @nicomadic6479
      @nicomadic6479  Год назад +1

    Born in 1986 I started using my first DSLR (the Pentax K10D) and since then I went up to my "recent" Sony A7ii which is brilliant.
    Still I was kind of feeling nostalgic and got my self a Nikon D200 (yes the CCD hype is real xD) and what can I say, compared to my A7ii it is falling behind in so many ways,
    BUT you know what's coming: The colors of the old CCD sensor is even better than I rememered back with my K10D. And even more important, the shooting experience is so different, it is much more complex but also a lot of fun which might is caused by nostalgia!

    Have you noticed that these old digicams make occasional appearances in K-pop videos? I have seen them in NewJeans videos a couple of times and even old film cameras have appeared in their videos. It's pretty cool to see them being used by K-pop stars and this may inspire their fans to get the same digicam models for themselves.

    This is such a great video in explaining the resurgence of interest in point-and-shoots. In my early 20s I worked at a camera shop whose main business was repairing and selling point-and-shoots we at one period of time had so many they were heavily discounted I wonder if that still is true today. Ugh so many fond memories with these tiny colorful cameras ❤

    Personally there are still some benefits to the digicam point and shoots. Ergonimics are way more comfortable and most have an actual optical zoom and not just digital zoom and usually very compact. Some also have old filters and effects you wont find in new stuff. Also if for some reason you cant have your phone they are light and compact.
