I'm allergic to cats but I've had one for seven years, it takes a while but you can get immune to your own cat. Hope Shane sees this so he knows.
filthy oultram I had the same thing with three different cats. Eventually none of my own cats bothered me. Give it some time and take some over the counter allergy medicine for a few weeks.

Same. Both my best friend and I are very allergic to cats but still own two each. We both have become almost immune to our own but have to take allergy pills when we visit the other's house haha. I've talked to an allergy doctor about this and he says that it's extremely common to build up an immunity to your own pet.

I'm a pet nutritionalist. If you feed Cheeto only canned food and not kibble, it will help tremendously with allergies. Kibble makes cats shed more, produce more dander, and makes them more greasy. Worth a try?
Edit: since people are saying that kibble cleans cats teeth, I feel like I should explain. A cat eating kibble to clean its teeth is exactly like a human eating saltine crackers to clean their teeth. It's just a bunch of carbs and will actually contribute more to plaque rather than removing it.
So cats are desert animals. They evolved in the desert and naturally get their moisture from their food. If you look at their tongues, they're rough and scratchy. They aren't designed to 'lap up' water like dogs are. They get their moisture solely from their food.
Eating kibble will dehydrate your cat, make the coat corse and greasy, make it easier to gain weight, and can very often cause serious urinary issues such as UTIs and urinary crystals.
A canned based diet is much better for them. They get their moisture from the food, you won't get plaque on the teeth from crunching down on pure carbs, and it's a lot less processed than kibble. ANY canned food is better than the best quality kibble.
Joseph Shuman cats do need hard food for their teeth or they will have very expensive and painful tooth removals, just make sure they get a couple cups of hard food every now and then!

They don't need kibble. It's like humans chewing on saltine crackers for our teeth health. It's just a bunch of carbs :) trust me, I've had years of training under pet nutrition. Cats do not need kibble. It's actually really healthy for them to be given a raw chicken wing tip every week for teeth health!

I love that he adopted an older cat. I love kittens, but it's the old cats that never get adopted and I always feel bad for them. Instead of getting some adorable perfect breed kitten he got an ordinary older cat, which I love.

I had to take my cat back to the shelter the day after I adopted her because I was severely allergic and had no idea and that day I had her I grew so attached to that cat, Today is the day I returned her and cried so much, it sucks being allergic.
That's so sad! I'm allergic to my cats too but it's at least livable. Like I have really bad environmental allergies anyways, so I was going to be stuffy and have hives anyways lol

asthmatic, severely allergic to cats and bird feathers.....has 3 cats and a bird. Oh, and volunteers at an animal shelter, in the cat room. Allergy medication and allergy shots do exist.
My dad and I are extremely allergic to cats but we have had two cats already. There are cat breed that are less allergic than others. We have had one Siberian and one Russian Blue. Sphinx cats are also said to be hypoallergenic but some say because they don't have fur the allergens are easier to access. (Allergens are mostly in the saliva and dandruff of the cat) And it is said that the severity of the allergy gets reduced by 33% after living with a cat for a year. I definitely believe it! I could never be in a room with non-hypoallergenic cat for more than 30 mins, but now i can stay for a very long time as long as i don't touch the cat. And if you do get a hypoallergenic cat I recommend you get a female because they produce less allergens. Just hoping to help another animal lover!

Tips for allergies to cats, I've been allergic my whole life so I've learnt ways to deal with it better. Shane you need to brush him regularly so that any loose hairs that could be affecting Ryland are gone, also instead of actually bathing the cat with water, you can get a foam that you put on the dry fur and brush out rather than wetting him. Also everyone needs to be washing their hands with warm, soapy water after you touch him to remove any saliva or hair which could both be causing the allergies. Also, try not the let cheeto sleep on your bed, or on your couch when he's not on your lap so that the hair isn't stuck to material of your bed or couch. Hope that helps ❤️❤️❤️
Also, before you start taking the immune therapy shots, try taking clarytine, or an anti-histamine with fexofenadine in it as that really helps with the hive/skin aspect of allergies, make sure you take it at the same time every day so that it's constantly in your system and it should totally help

ALSO, if you open your fridge the cat will do like a food ration check, you get to see them stand up for about a minute sniffing and rubbing themselves all over your fridge it's soo cute.

Every 7 yrs your body resets itself and you can become allergic to things you never have been before. I had never been allergic to animals before and I am now, but still have 2 cats and when I break out I just take a Benadryl.

some people may need to get a certain breed of cat or dog, one that suits their lifestyle, or if they have allergies. I really wish breeder-shaming would stop. Shelter shopping is awesome, but there's plenty of responsible breeders who do their job right! I'm allergic to cats, so I'd have to get a breed like the Siberian Cat if I wanted to have one. Now, I know I could develop a tolerance like Ryland did, but still, it's an option! Don't shame breeders that know their shit! :P
I would and certainly will shelter shop for doggos in my future. But that isn't stopping me from wanting a Retriever or Shepherd, too! I want ALL the doggos! Shelter dogs need love, too!

ThatOneGinge Nope, sorry, after volunteering at a shelter and seeing the amount of full bred cats that come in, not to mention the fact that they are taking are literally making more cats while so many die in shelters, is a problem for me.
If you did any sort of animal rescue, you might change your mind.
Also, if you have any type of cat allergy, why risk it? So, say you spend the money, get your expensive Siberian Cat and still end up reacting to it? There aren't that many Siberian Cat breeders in the US so you'd have to either travel to take the cat back or find another home for it, either way, you're out money. Breeders don't offer full refunds, they will always keep the holding fee, and anyone you rehome to likely will not be willing to pay full price. This is why many full bred animals later end up, alone, in a shelter, among so many other reasons.
I could go on for days about why I "breeder shame", but the main one is until we have less than hundreds of thousands of animals euthanized in shelters everyday, nobody needs to be making more. And if you have an allergy, but aren't willing to stick it out forever if the cat does trigger a reaction, then you shouldn't be risking it.
